I'm interested in knowing exactly what is on the back end of the b model of the 42006 Excavator? In the description on the S@H site it says you can put a dozer blade on front, but all I can see is the axles sticking out the front, and the mechanism on the back makes me scratch my head as to what it is. To compare the 8275, that set had a ripper on the back but this odd looking rear end comes out at an angle. I was looking to possibly buy a 2nd copy for the b model, but I am tossed up about it...

Why don't you build the B Model and see if you want to buy a second set for having both models up...

EDIT: I just found this video:

Nice informative vid...still don't understand what the attachment on the back is for though...usually some dozers come with rippers in back, but always side to side (aka 8275), this one is strange...I'd build it, but I've got only 1 copy of the set and wanted to build what I really bought it for instead of disassembling and building it...I know on the desc of the item it said you could make it a dozer, but there is not attachment for a blade, or a blade period, just the axles jutting out in front...no biggie

The attachment on the back It's for ploughing the country.

You would be correct , Not sure on the whole think hanging on the front though. Have yet too see a Challenger with anything on the front. the thing on the back is suppose to be a mold board plow I'm guessing.

At least TLG surprised us all with that attachment on the back, since that wasn't visible in any picture at all...

The model seems less boring now or makes more sense.

Hi,

this is not a bulldozer, it is an agricultural machine - basicly a tractor with rubber track, for better weight distribution.

The back thing is a plow:

The front fork is mainly used to move straw bales, like this (ok, not to stack them, just the forwarding version was made for this model):

Personally, i like this B model.

Ciao! :classic:

Agreed there captainmib - it makes buying a 2nd copy null for me, they didn't show the back attachment, its kind of dopey looking...if it was a lateral ripper like most big dozers have I might have bought a 2nd copy, but its more like a harvester. Kind of false advertising on TLG's part in a way, they said it could be made into a dozer, but just axles sticking out in front isn't a dozer, it would need a solid blade...ah well, no biggie, saved some $$$...as agrof put it, its more of an agricultural vehicle, just without wheels...

Nice blade, I've all ways found the dozer interesting because it looks like a copy of a D 11 and a Kamotso all in one, LOL. The blade looks a lot like a CD D 11, Cd stood for carry dozer. Another one of my project on the back burner, LOL. Theres a couple Challengers near me, to really build an accurate one, you need a larger sprocket for the rear. Something we dont have yet at our disposal. A D 11 would be an easy build because all three points are the same size. Funny thing about bull dozers, the blade is the dozer. The tractor part is just a tractor, hence track - tor. Holt was the first, later changed to Catapiller. they built a track type tractor for farming, later someone got the idea to put a blade on the front to push dirt, and the bull dozer was born.

@ bb15080: The 2-booklet PDF Building Instructions for the 42006-2 "Tracked Tractor" (B-Model) does work on that Technic.Lego.com webpage, but you have to do this:

1) Click on the second or third lines in the dropdown menu

2) Click on the obscure, dark "Download" word below the white download box. The black lettering on the dark grey background makes it hard to see. :sceptic:

Interesting to know the origin of the dozer...never knew these facts...

I am just about to start building this B model later in the week. Has anybody done any modifications / improvements to this set which I should look at before building it?

I have some ideas on ways to improve it but would love to know other peoples experiences first.

They work fine but naturally take a while to move by hand. I just like this tractor for some reason even though it's fairly simple. I haven't built the rear device yet and I'm not sure if I will.
