March 2, 20178 yr This is the first trailer that caught my interest out of the trailers we have gotten so far. The other ones felt like, "generic CGI effects pirate movie" while this one somehow felt a little closer to the best parts of Curse of the Black Pearl, and the sense of naive adventure I get from riding the original theme park ride in Disneyland. I like the idea this guy is out for revenge on Jack due to something Jack did as a very young boy.

April 4, 20177 yr I wonder what explanation the sharks will have in-universe. As in, why were the sharks cursed along with the crew? Were they simply in the wrong place at the wrong time?

An idea I had was that the sharks were attracted to the blood in the water created by Salazar's crew constantly butchering pirates and some made a habit of following his ship around. When the ship crashed in the Triangle, the sharks blew up with it.
April 5, 20177 yr Interesting idea, it sounds logical enough to be plausible. Didn't think about that yet.
April 19, 20177 yr A bit off-topic, but does anyone know if there is any concept art/drawings/images in existence of the Flying Dutchman as a "proper" ship before it became decayed and overgrown with seaweed and stuff? It would be nice to see how it used to look like.
April 20, 20177 yr So was  Keira Knightley's return supposed to be a surprise, or did the Japanese trailer accidentally reveal it? Edited April 20, 20177 yr by LEGODalekbuster523

April 23, 20177 yr Apparently it's a very small role from the information I've been able to find. On source says she's just in a flashback/post-credits scene.
May 26, 20177 yr Just got back from watching it. While I'd like to say that it was my favourite POTC film I can't because I don't think that a sequel can be the best if there was never an original (ie. Rogue One and Star Wars) But needless to say this was by far the best sequel to the original. These movies were my childhood and seeing the ties to the original characters - incredible  I can't believe Barbossa wasn't included in the Silent Mary set... But I guess we did get a Barbossa anyways  Hopefully, hopefully we have not seen the end of a POTC line, because the Dying Gull would be a perfect smaller ship set. The part I hated the most was actually Jack's behaviour. Hated his drunkness - I understood it at the beginning but through the whole thing.... I felt like I was watching the Mad Hatter and not Captain Jack. They made him seem like a bumbling idiot but that's never who Jack has been.  Anyways... Besides that, best movie ever!Â
May 26, 20177 yr I watched it on Wednesday. What I like the most is how well Javier Bardem does Capitán Salazar. My town has two more runs of the movie next week and I think I'll go see it again.
May 27, 20177 yr I actually rather liked the movie. I still prefer the first two over the rest, but I don't think it's as bad as I was expecting it to be. I had some problems with some of the plot, but that tends to happen with big blockbusters.
May 28, 20177 yr Great news about the box office results for this weekend! Looks like it brought in about 77M! But it has made 271M world wide which is great because it only cost 230M to make! Really hope this means we'll get another! I think if there is a sixth and they market it as the last and final one of the franchise it could pull in some bigger numbers. Unfortunately though with Baywatch coming out this weekend, and then Wonder Woman on the way with the Mummy close following it'll be tough to stay on top. But great news all in all!Â
May 28, 20177 yr ^ Those box office numbers are good, but the film will likely need to break ~$500M to turn a profit. Shouldn't be a problem though! I really enjoyed the film as well; it's the second best, behind Curse of the Black Pearl, IMO.

Yeah shouldn't be a problem. My kids thought the film was good. It had some funny parts and was entertaining. Overall I thought it was a good movie not the best in the franchise though. I don't know exactly where to rank it yet.
May 30, 20177 yr It was surprisingly fun. Yeah the internal logic is still wonky, and the supernatural stuff is over the top (a few sharks may have been jumped too...) but it was a fun popcorn flick. I especially liked how it undid many of the dumb decisions made in the second, third, and forth film; arguably bringing the story back closer to the roots of the first film and the original theme park ride. Speaking of the theme park ride, the ship The Wicked Wench from the film is in direct homage to the ship of the same name attacking the fort in arguably one of the ride's most iconic scenes. So do I think this film deserved the thrashing it got on Rotten Tomatoes? Nope. Not a great film by any means, but as I said a great popcorn flick that promises to help the franchise remain afloat. The film was definitely more fun than the third and forth one for sure!
June 1, 20177 yr I liked it. It was much better than the fourth installment, certainly, and just about on par with the second and third films, with the first still being the best. I didn't care much for the ending, when they basically undid all of the previous films, but whatever.

But that's a pretty typical contract.
June 2, 20177 yr I wouldn't mind several more PotC movies, as long as they're good. But if they make e.g. a new trilogy next, I hope they go back to a longer story instead of the 1 movie story they've had with 4 and 5, although I like 5 it annoys me when they introduce new characters and a new villain and then manage to win and kill the villain all in the same movie.
June 6, 20177 yr Can anyonebody please explain that after credits scene at all?  I mean I thought all the curses were broken at sea after what happened in the movie.Â

Well what I think and that I've been saying since the movie came out was... I think Davy Jones has come back because of Jack's worst fear curse. To me the whole Salazar as his worst fear doesn't make sense because Jack couldn't even remember his name.... I think that bringing back Davy Jones this way makes a lot of sense because who else would Jack fear most than the tentacle bearded captain himself. Also maybe Blackbeard could come back as well because after all there is literally a line in the movie that says "Blackbeard - the pirate all pirates fear" But yet Salazar came back......... Also he can come on land because his curse of having to ferry souls is broken. And he's tentacley because that is how Jack most fears him. Anyways that's my two thoughtsÂ
