I hope you're right for the sake of the Pirates theme. I believe POTC 4 was the reason for Pirates 2009 being discontinued. With a new POTC movie we could see the same thing.

  • Discontinue the Pirates theme for a licensed theme.
  • Have a couple of waves of the licensed theme.
  • Then, discontinue the licensed theme.
  • In the end, no pirate theme (again).

Unfortunately here's the thing. Lego would do it again in a heartbeat. Pirates sells well and is one of their permanent recurring "evergreen" themes. But Pirate stuff directly associated with and tied to a current movie sells an order of magnitude better than in house Pirates. So when the movie tie in is available, they will jump at it.

I built the POTC Fountain of Youth from a bulk lego buy, it was not worth the time it took to find the bricks to be honest. I liked the ships.

Classic Pirate is my main endeavour I think the death of Pirates and the arrival of POTC was no coincidence now that it I have read it, as it would interfere with a "licensed" product that LEGO would have paid a tidy sum for.

Update:

As 'Angelica' teased at the end of the last movie, the movie will be about the control of the winds (Wind Waker?) and seas using Poseidon's Trident:

Official Statement:

Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Captain Jack Sparrow finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar (Bardem), escape from the Devil's Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea...including him. Captain Jack's only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas.

Hmm, so does the schedule allow for a second wave in early 2016, to be cleared from the shelves before potential PotC sets hit?

And wouldnt it be better for this thread to be merged with the general PotC discussion thread so all POtC news and discussion would be in one place?

Actually I was thinking about it today and I agree that it'll much more logical if we merge both topics into one rather than having two separate topics with the same subject.

So if the bad guy is a ghost pirate so there is a big chance that we'll get a ghost pirate ship pir_laugh2.gif And of course an updated version of Jack Sparrow...ahem Captain Jack Sparrow pirate_laugh_new.gif

Well Will Turner's back as Davy Jones. Fingers crossed we will get the Flying Dutchman. I would personally prefer the ship if it was from the second or third movie though.

I know I'm kinda late with the news but it's been reported that Johnny Depp was injured during filming the movie, fortunately production won't stop while he's away for the surgery. Here's the full story: http://www.cinemable...tion-70243.html

And can a moderator change the title of this topic to "Pirates of the Caribbean:Dead Men Tell No Tales"?You know since the title of the movie has been officially revealed.

Just want to know how many of them LEGO would involve in (sigh) :def_shrug:

Well you can bet Civil War and Doc Strange, and Star Wars 7 together with Guardians 2 off course

Glad to hear that this is still happening! Looks like it'll be fun! Can't wait to hear if Lego is making another wave or two of PotC stuff! I'd love that! not enough feshie pirates out there yet! I needs more! :excited:

I loved the first 3 Pirates films...The fourth not so much. Way too much Depp. I hope LEGO does make more sets when this film comes out, but only if they make sets from the "Original Trilogy" as I call it. The Flying Dutchman as a UCS would be amazing.

IMO Blackbeard died too soon. I feel like the whole hunt for the holy grail or whatever it was, was rushed, and same with Blackbeard's death.

I think it would have been done better if the plot in On Stranger Tides had been happening over the course of 2 films, like the plot with Davy Jones and Jack's debt to him in Dead Man's Chest and At World's End.

The Flying Dutchman as a UCS would be amazing.

I'm only into Technic, but I would love to see a proper UCS of The Flying Dutchman.

Amusingly enough, I'm completely of the other opinion. I loved the first film, and really disliked the subsequent 2, but felt that the 4th was an excellent film that hearkened back to the original in many ways. :classic:
