Brickington Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 Do you really believe your two sisters share the exact same mindset of all other mothers who have ever bought a Lego set? Just look around. Then you will understand what I am talking about.
Sir Walter Maugham Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Just look around. Then you will understand what I am talking about. Well, I did, and I don't. If you're referring to the people posting in this topic, most don't mind this idea from a sexual standpoint. "No mom wants to go buy their young child a LEGO set with girls who have boobs." is just a factually wrong statement. Just look at the Friends line.
Governor Mister Phes Posted January 23, 2013 Governor Posted January 23, 2013 Barbie dolls have had boobs for over 50 years, so breasts on childrens toys aren't a new thing... If you're referring to the people posting in this topic, most don't mind this idea from a sexual standpoint. Despite breasts being reproductive organs they don't necessarily imply sexualisation, wasn't the intent of adding physical breasts to minifigures to increase feminine identity?
Faefrost Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 This is one of those rather delicate subjects. While breasts themselves are not a taboo subject as such, asking or proposing to put more realistic breasts on Minifigs tends to mark one as just slightly weirder than furries.
Sir Walter Maugham Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Despite breasts being reproductive organs they don't necessarily imply sexualisation, wasn't the intent of adding physical breasts to minifigures to increase feminine identity? Yes. In that quote I was saying that most people here aren't against this idea because they are prudish, but because they feel that the addition of breasts on a Minifig is unnecessary and most likely get in the way of accessories. (As I do)
Brickington Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 Well, I did, and I don't. If you're referring to the people posting in this topic, most don't mind this idea from a sexual standpoint. Yes, mom who's buying for their young girl won't mind. But for their young boy, they will mind.
Mr Copperhead Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 just slightly weirder than furries. What's a furry? Sounds hilarious.
Governor Mister Phes Posted January 24, 2013 Governor Posted January 24, 2013 Yes, mom who's buying for their young girl won't mind. But for their young boy, they will mind. And you know this because your statement is based on research? Or is it your own assumption?
BrickG Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 Yes, mom who's buying for their young girl won't mind. But for their young boy, they will mind. I don't know of any moms who would mind that and you hardly represent all moms. I as a young boy had a few toys with boobs including a Princess Leia action figure. Nothing bad happened because of it. I don't get your weird prejudice against boobs.
Brickington Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 (edited) And you know this because your statement is based on research? Or is it your own assumption? Research, have you heard of FOX news? There was a study that they showed just before Christmas. I will try to find it for all of you. I don't know of any moms who would mind that and you hardly represent all moms. Governor Mister Phes Posted January 24, 2013 Governor Posted January 24, 2013 Research, have you heard of FOX news? There was a study that they showed just before Christmas. I will try to find it for all of you. That's more like it! If it's not your own opinion, cite your sources.
TheLegoDr Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 I think printing the boobs on the lego minifigure makes perfect sense from a production standpoint. If TLG really was against boobs, they wouldn't even allow printing and they probably would not have created the original variation of the head. Everything could still be the standard smiley with blank torsos, or at least no signs of female silhouettes. Boobs exist everywhere yes, including toys. I don't see the problem with having them. But I also don't see the need to have them either. At least, not on a minifigure.
gratefulnat Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 I have to say this whole thread has been a joy to read, quite surprised to find it still open. In regards to the OP, I have to agree with many others that I think the minifigure is fine the way it is. Maybe LEGO Cuusoo's response wasn't great, but as someone mentioned they're just people too. Any changes in regards to the anatomy would be superfluous in my opinion. start rant Research, have you heard of FOX news? There was a study that they showed just before Christmas. I will try to find it for all of you. Yeah, FOX news IS really objective ( ) Their news confirms what many people want to believe, rather than reporting actual unbiased facts. In my humble opinion. stop rant
Brickington Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 Yeah, FOX news IS really objective ( ) Their news confirms what many people want to believe, rather than reporting actual unbiased facts. In my humble opinion. stop rant I didn't say that I agree with them, I am just saying what my hears heard and eyes saw on television. I saw it on their morning show, FOX and Friends, but for some reason I can't find the study again. I can't be the only one who heard it, can I?
Governor Mister Phes Posted January 24, 2013 Governor Posted January 24, 2013 I can't be the only one who heard it, can I? It could have all been in your head... Yeah, FOX news IS really objective ( ) Their news confirms what many people want to believe, rather than reporting actual unbiased facts. In my humble opinion. FOX News... Brought to you by the same network as The Simpsons, Family Guy and Cleveland Show!
gratefulnat Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 FOX News... Brought to you by the same network as The Simpsons, Family Guy and Cleveland Show! Beautiful, isn't it, how money outranks morals (tongue in cheek)
BrickG Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 Fox News is as trustworthy as the Onion. I'm no democrat but they're a freakin' joke. Nobody should ever quote them on anything since they're so incredibly unreliable and morally bankrupt.

BrickG Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 (edited) ... and back on topic please. Thanks. Okay, back on topic. Lego Bears, Lego Beats, Lego Boobs... Lego Battlestar Galactica. Debate over! Your arguments are invalid. Edited January 24, 2013 by BrickG
Brickington Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 It could have all been in your head... Believe me, it's not in my head.
Navy Trooper Fenson Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 I don´t believe it is LEGOs sexism but rather their online service people preferring to simply copy a pre-written answer into their e-mails instead of writing original content specifying that LEGO doesn´t want to change its iconic style. What's a furry? Sounds hilarious. People who like animals in human shapes and costumes based around this idea.
Governor Mister Phes Posted January 25, 2013 Governor Posted January 25, 2013 ... and back on topic please. Thanks. That was probably my fault... Anyway, it would be interesting to see some credible evidence which proves mothers have no issue against buying female minifigures with breasts for their daughters, yet do have an issue buying such minifigures for their sons. Since Brickington can't seem to find 20 seconds to Google this FOX News report, I've done it for us. The article is "LEGOs for girls has feminist group in a twist" (note the incorrect pluralisation of "LEGO") Nowhere does it mention mothers have an issue against purchasing minifigures with breasts for their son... The most detail it provides in relation to mothers is "the girl-targeted line is selling well, and generating positive feedback from parents". But if that's not the correct article, please guide to the correct source, Mister Brickington.

But if that's not the correct article, please guide to the correct source, Mister Brickington. Now I am kinda of embarrassed. I have been searching practically all morning for it. Now I am thinking it might have been a poll. If I can't find it, maybe I'm completely wrong. Next time, I'll make sure I have the source before I make my point . BrickG Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 (note the incorrect pluralisation of "LEGO") Honestly it's not really incorrect in the USA. Language is language. Nobody but hardcore lego people call it "Lego Bricks" or whatever. It's all "Legos" and I don't think there's anything wrong with that. I call them Legos myself when I'm not here and the only reason I don't do it here is because of all the people that "correct" my correct American lingo. It's correct enough anyways and I'm not changing my or a whole country's habits because Lego is concerned about their intellectual property. LEGOS ALL ROUND!

I as a young boy had a few toys with boobs including a Princess Leia action figure. Nothing bad happened because of it. I don't get your weird prejudice against boobs. Now imagine if you had written Kenner back then with the helpful suggestion of "Princess Leia needs much much bigger boobs dudes!" Would they have rushed to respond to this helpful constructive suggestion? Or immediately categorized you as some sort of deviant weirdo plastic pervert, and forwarded all further correspondence to their legal and security departments? For the record the outfit that made the PotC On Stranger Tides action figures did get a lot of parent blowback concerning just how "educational" the Angelica figure was.
