I've been purchasing parts at about £20 per month since mid 2011, but skipped a few months last year, so I've spent about £250 since the end of 2011. My total collection is about £800 - £900 so far. Money is tight for me right now otherwise I would spend more.

I spent a lot of money in my first year after my dark ages three years ago, now as I only build MOCs and I have enough pieces I only buy new parts when they are interesting.

I got back into it in 09, and have spent somewhere around 3 grand since then. Like most people I buy any of the flag ship sets that look good, and a lot of stuff of Brick link. Also Ebay for a lot of part lots at a decent price now n then.

I,ve bought multiples of some of the good sets too, so that added up in a hurry. Part wise, I must have close to 30,000 pieces if not more. I look at it this way, you can fly planes and when they crash your out a lot of money. Models are ok, but its never gonna be anything else. You build it and that's it. We're lucky, we can build something look at it for a while, and then take it all apart . Then build something new, I think for the money LEGO's are a great deal considering this. Not to mention their not made in China, and their made well with good materials.

no idea how long it lasts

get them while its hot!

Ah, ok. LEGO gives discounts when you buy multiple PF parts at once. This isn't really a special, it's just something they have kindly done for a long time now. You have a nice size order there, hence the discount.

mobi, sorry about the thread hijack.

can't be bothered looking up exactly how much I have spent in the last two years, but it would definitely be more than half of my sets.

my sets come to $7056 US on Brickset, but I would have spent at least $10,000 NZ on all my LEGO (mostly Technic) mainly because LEGO is ridiculously expensive in New Zealand ($400 for the Unimog!!!), which is why I have bought most of my lego in the last two years via Bricklink, because even including the shipping (which isn't cheap) it is still cheaper than buying locally!

Well, diving the total value of sets (via peeron) by the amount of years i've been building technic (since 1991) I get around £300 per year on average! There are also bricklink orders on top of that, but as far as hobbies go, Lego is mentally VERY healthy, enjoyable and comparatively cheap compared to most other hobbies. And every penny spent on it I still own in Lego form in, despite being well used, like new condition.

Mmm not for me,I have 3 mocs on the build table and I can settle down and finish building one, before I move to the next thing.... :sceptic:

I second that. I have the same problem.... and yet to create my own post to show eb forum members my mocs.

I'm getting that t-shirt!

I'm a newcomer. It's been two years since I've come out of my dark period. Last time I had LEGO was in 1990. Last set I bought was in 1987. All my old LEGO (and that is just about ALL Technic set from '77 to '87) is gone down the trash :sceptic:

In two years, I've spend probably more than 20k$, a fifth on Technic/Technic realted BL orders ..

Haven't bought any 'legacy' sets (yet!), only new ones like a load of Unimogs etc ... so many new parts I've never seen before. Wonderfull

I searched for similar threads, while there exist quite a few, they are in General Lego section.

I wonder how much you spend on Technic

1. Average spend per year for Technic

2. Total net worth of your Lego Technic (at purchase price - not at market value because high market value of old sets may skew the figure)

I start with myself. I twice came out of my dark age.

I never spend more than 200 GBP per year *. Total cost of all my Technic is around 1500 GBP (excluding childhood sets which were bought by parents). I usually only buy Technic with occasional purchase of Creator sets.

I guess my spend is on lower side as most good MOCers spend far more than this.

* = my wife closely scrutinize my Lego purchase and never allows me to go over the limit

I spend way too much...

I, too, have gotten inspiration from this forum on creating MOCs and have 2 finished and 3 in the works, but don't know how to post pics here. I don't think cell phone pics would work...spent way too much this past year on Technic, most to sell in the future, but even though I skipped the 9398, TRU, Amazon and S@H are too tempting...gotta remove them from my Favorites so I don't get too nuts, I'm out of cash...but bought a lot of vintage sets from the late 80's and 90's at, of course, way too much...

Since 2005 I have bought every flagship and most of the other sets. Additionally I have two NXT's, some extra sensors and lots of separate parts via Bricklink.

I also purchase modular buildings once in a while and I have a fair number of star wars sets and parts.

My best guess for Technic would be 100 euro every other month, so around 600 euro per year.

Total collection value (at retail price) between 5000 and 6000 euro.

I'm the same as all the above ;)

For myself, i must admit: way too much...

I came out of my dark ages 2 years ago. Over the time i blew about 1800€ or so. Mostly on the flagships - 2 x 8258, 2x 8043, 2x 8110, 1 x 9398, ....

I really have to slow down now - the 42009 is on the horizon...

BTW, anybody going to visit the Nuremberg Toy Fair next week? There should be a fair chance to get a closer look on the 2/2013 sets.

I'm after spending €140 on bricklink for parts for jurgens PF backhoe. Iv about €120 power functions motors etc to buy next, I don't like breaking up my flagships to build mocs, I do have a spare 8043 ill break to help build this.

I also have some spare power functions parts and i also have 8466 so have the pp wheels. With my 8043 and pp wheels it's still costing around €260 to build, am I made and should i be breaking sets to build mocs?

Iv also built the ultimate 8043 and don't want to break that ether now :) I could use most parts from this but i love it too much to dismantle!

What do others do in this case? And have u spend much in bricklink to build any large mocs?
