kabel Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 (edited) Originally this was going to be my first challenge IV entry, but I forgot about the indoor scene. That's why I post it like this now, as a freebuild. BTW, I started building this about a week ago before all the other ambushes here were posted. The build was inspired however, by Z's challenge V entry! Steen Larsson was pissed off. Instead of enjoying the safety and limited comforts of the camp at the black temple, the men of Stoneroda and Helgestorp were ordered to join forces with Elon Chorian in Ondylion. However, since Grimmson had gone to Valholl in order to join the silly race for prime minister, Larsson was left alone with the task to take his men through the mountains. This region, called the valley of skulls - a former stronghold of rebellious orcs, had been pacified decades ago, but he still didn't like it. I was too gloomy a place. But with the elementals waging havoc all over Mitgardia, they had to take this road to get safely to Ondylion. His scouts had declared the pass free, but for no particular reason Steen had decided this morning to put on his helmet ... but what was this, had the forces of the hand of corruption already infiltrated Mitgardia? A fierce fight ensued ... Edited January 23, 2013 by kabel Quote
Maxim I Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Niiiiiice!!!! I think I know finally how I will do the rocks in my city (next year)!!!! This is just awesome!! Also great minifig posing btw!! Quote
soccerkid6 Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 The horizontal rock work looks great! Perfect fig posing and the river is excellent Looking forward to your Challenge VI entry, will some of the builds be in Ondylion? Quote
SkaForHire Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 I am not a big fan of sideways building (I like studs!) but this is excellent work with the rocks, and even where the horse seems to be in the water because you lowered the plate, that is really cool too. Quote
kabel Posted January 23, 2013 Author Posted January 23, 2013 (edited) I just realized that I sould have given this topic a different name, but the build was done the day the others had posted their ambushes. Hope people don't mix it with Infernums topic and therefore do not check this one. So thanks for the feedback guys. @DM: I had actually toyed with vertical rocks in my Valholl moc but didn't take a good picture. But Z using this technique in his moc actually remembered me of this old idea! @SK: I might to place my indoor moc in Ondylion, in case it hasn't been destryoed by the elementals or the hand of corruption yet. @Ska: when I started adult mocing about three years ago, I wasn't that fond of SNOT either. But bye and bye I tried to include a little more, and since then it has grown on me. Edited January 23, 2013 by kabel Quote
mrcp6d Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 Nice rockwork buddy, and the fig posing is well done too. Quote
Rogue Angel Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 I agree that the horizontal rock style works very well in this build. Nice action packed build! Quote
Ecclesiastes Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 More free builds like this please!! The rockwork is indeed excellent as is the posing of all the figs. Especially Grimmson! Quote
kabel Posted January 24, 2013 Author Posted January 24, 2013 Thanks guys. Yeah I'm glad that the testing of this rock technique turned out so well. I admit though, that the pics are a little grainy. No idea what was going on with my camera yesterday. @Eccles, that's Steen Larsson on his way to Ondylion, Eric Grimmson is still in Valholl waiting for the inauguration cermony of the new prime minister! (a possible moc idea for you?) Quote

Mike S Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 This is a really awesome MOC kabel! That rockwork turned out great and I like the use of what I call your trademark style with the water that I believe you started with challenge 5. Keep it up! And about the views, I usually view all the MOCs in GoH but a lot of times I don't have time to comment on them. Quote
kabel Posted January 24, 2013 Author Posted January 24, 2013 @Eccles: I'm glad I could inspire you! @Masa: Yeah, your right. This is the third moc in which I use snot water, wasn't really aware of that and it actually took me a while to warm up to snot building, as I described above. What I consider my trademark though is the combination of dark tan, dark bley and vegetation which I've used in most of my Mitgardian landscape mocs now. Quote
Brickington Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 Very nice, kabel. Good work! This would have been a fine build in the challenge. Quote
kabel Posted January 25, 2013 Author Posted January 25, 2013 yeah, it would have, problem is that I've got too many ideas concerning challenge IV. I totally forgot about the indoor scene though. Quote
Infernum Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 Wow! Nice build! I love the SNOT rock work! Great job! Quote
de Gothia Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 Wow Kabel! One of your best I think! That minifig posings are excellent and the rockwork looks great! Quote
Niku Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 I love the construction, the rocks, the river and the posing of the minifigs. Altought by watching the pictures I can say those mitgardians will have a difficult time there, being surprised while crossing the river, supplies on the front, and attacked from the height the odds are against them. Quote
kabel Posted January 27, 2013 Author Posted January 27, 2013 Wow Kabel! One of your best I think! Thanks DG, your praise actually means a lot to me! Altought by watching the pictures I can say those mitgardians will have a difficult time there, being surprised while crossing the river, supplies on the front, and attacked from the height the odds are against them. yeah, it doens't look good. But it's nine Mitgardians against four uruks, maybe some'll survive. At least Steen Larsson has to, I guess ... Quote
