I'd have to agree with most people here; if I get one, I get one. I certainly wouldn't go out of my way for one. And I'd probably keep any I do get for reselling when the price is crazy (as it's sure to be!). I highly doubt that it would be made out of real metal. Probably just a plan fig in gold with maybe some generic accessory to throw people off. But if there's only 5000 worldwide... well, I probably won't ever end up with one!

With 5000 total, the rarity almost makes it laughable. Most people won't seem to care about it only because it will be so rare and pointless. There will be completionists out there that will get upset over it and pay through the teeth for one.

I'm like most others, if I get one, I get one to sell.

Yeah, like others have said, if there are only 5000, the only way I'm getting one is the near-impossible chance that I find one on my first feel-through. After I complete my set, that will be the extent of my search.

Been discussing this with my boyfriend and we've decided that although I do love the idea of limited edition minifigs this just ends up hurting true collectors than helping them.

I've been collecting these since series one and I'm a competitionist. I don't quite have all CMF but I have pretty much all the cool figs and am slowly completing the lot. It's a fun idea to have this super limited fig but unless I pay a ridiculous amount of money I will probably never complete my collection. They should at least put one in every box to give the real collectors a fighting chance of getting one. It is cool but I do feel a little bit punished for being a true collector.

As much as it is tempting to get a hold of a golden minifig, I can only see it's use being for resale, or display only. If anything, the other minifigs in series 10 tickle my fancy much more (Like the clown or biker, for instance). If I come across one (Fat chance), I'll be as giddy as a schoolgirl who won a trip to a Justin Bieber show, but I don't see how useful it'd be, but I guess I won't know until I see a pic.

Think of it this way. At 5000, its about double the number out there of each of the ComicCon figs. Just distributed in a way that members of the general public have some chance at seeing one.

Besides finding one lets you take the super magical tour of the Lego factory... Where you will be eaten by Oompa Loompas

I own all the minifigures, most of them in doubles, and I will feel my collection complete even without the golden minifigure. It will be not in the booklet, there will be no "17 to collect" just "16 to collect", so as soon as Series 10 is out, I get my usual box and I complete this series too.

I don't really understand what you mean by this. "True" collector, as opposed to what? And why do you feel punished? It's not one of the 16 to collect. It's a super-rare bonus that in all likelihood, some random kids are going to find. Is someone who buys one of these aftermarket less of a collector than you? Wouldn't they be more of one if they're willing to make a huge investment for it?

While it could be useful for statues and stuff, I doubt that I'll spend several hours sifting through several boxes for a one in a million chance to find a golden minifigure. Of course, if I do stumble across one I'd buy it in a heartbeat...

I can't tell you how many hours I've spent sifting through boxes for figs. I've probably spent 2 hours on series 9 alone- and that's been an easy series for me. I'm only looking for figs with big pieces-dress/armor/cyclops

Hmm I meant "true" collector as someone who likes to collect minifigs for fun and not financial gain. I have no problem with people buying these in an aftermarket as I've bought many of them this way. I'm sure it would be nice to be able to have the choice to pay silly money for a minifig but unfortunately I'm not lucky enough to do so and that's what I mean by being punished. It leaves collectors up to exploitation.

I'm not in anyway gloating that I've been collecting these for a long time, I'm lamenting that I will probably never get one unless I pay stupid money.

I draw it at the relatively reasonably acquirable VIP figure.

I agree. I drew the line at the British olympic figs. A super rare gold fig isn't going to happen for me, and I don't need it.

Seriously, I'm glad there's these chase gold figures. It means that the price of the average figure will go down for this set compared to others on the secondary market.

It's kind of like Magic:The Gathering cards (or any other CCG, Heroclix, etc). People buy cases and cases just to get the chase stuff to flip - in most instance they make a profit on the wholesale end. Meanwhile everything else they pull ends up flooding the market. You can buy one chase Magic card for $100 or 100 common Magic cards for $10 (or less). Lego could throw in a Spartan in this set and the gold chases will drop the Spartan's secondary market price down to retail or less.

And again, as long as the gold chase figure is not on a checklist or shown in any way as "part" of the set proper, than completists really have nothing to worry about.

Eh, I'm not a completist so this doesn't bother me in that sense. I would love to find one, and would keep it if I did, but the rarity means I probably won't bother feel-searching for one. It does make me wonder about the exclusive minifig that is reportedly going to come with the minifigures book being released this year. I had wondered whether that fig would be a golden fig or something.

Edit: ok oops I just went back to the Character Encyclopedia thread and saw that the minifig with the book has already been confirmed as a toy soldier. So that clears that up I guess

I highly doubt LEGO would be so crazy as to only produce 5000. That would immediately turn off thousands of fans, some permanently.

It's confirmed.

Here's a picture of one of the first Series 10 boxes I've found on Instagram.

It would be nice to find a gold fig, but I'm not a big fan of people robbing stores and giant crowds around the CMF box. It's a nice idea, but so many people might buy them and I wouldn't get a single fig

I think the question is, is this a sign that CMFs are losing popularity? Because this sounds like one of those things companies do when their immensely popular collectible doodads start becoming less popular. "Don't stop collecting now! We have LIMITED EDITION variant covers, foil stamping, holograph cards and GOLDEN MINIFIGS coming out in the next wave! Your collection is not complete without one of these babies!!"

I'm glad most people here are saying they won't increasing their collecting because of this gimmick, but I'm pretty sure there will be plenty of people who will. It's a tactic that works - for the short term. Long term, not so much.

After a while I realised that there is almost no chance of me ever getting this, so I really couldn't care less. If I were to get one, I'm not sure what I would do it. If it is interesting to me I may keep it. However, it is far more likely I would just sell it after a few months and use the money from the sale for more LEGO.

As I buy for my building interests, a gold minifig would only suit as a statue. No other practical use, and for me Lego is all about use. If I end up with one (exceedingly unlikely) I'd probably offer it up in trade, as market value would change as more are found. I have no interest in opening a store to sell one potentially valuable (to someone, not me) minifig.

The comparrison to MtG foil and limited eddition cards is a bit of a stretch, as these were more plentiful than many people realized. I was in to MtG for a while, but lost interest with no other players in my area. I still have my foil Foil card though. That was a happy find, but I don't see it as an investment.

Now that weve seen the golden minifig, Im not too impressed. Its not an outright bad or useless fig, but I dont know what I would do with one if it somehow came my way. It looks like more of an investment than a play fig. Funny thing is, its neither a gold version of one of the other figs, nor a plain fig, so TLG managed to surprise us with this one...

I actually love this figure. No one else seems to like it. But I will not spend outrageous amounts of money on one. I think the printing is spot on. I do like the gold effect, but I actually wish he was a regular figure also.

We'll see how much they end up going for on the aftermarket.

I think the gold figure looks really good. The top hot is great. I wonder what type of material it will be. He doesn't look chromed, and I'm wondering if it will be the "pearl gold" color/material.

Anyone else notice how they made his hands white, and not gold? Maybe the material is too brittle for a thin part such as minifig hands.
