I hope you are right but somehow i doubt it..... It would be amazing if we knew more but i am not hoping for any information until December atleast.

We might get an advertisement in the back of the third Hobbit wave instructions. Those should be hitting store shelves sometime in mid-September.

This thread is nearing 150K views and almost 2200 posts. It's been VERY active to say the least and it's the same way across the web on other forums. I am sure they are aware of the huge worldwide fanbase of all things Tolkien, It would be folly for TLG to NOT give us some sort of big bang farewell wave. There is obviously a LOT of interest still in LotR, and still a ton of money to be made on this theme.

What about that vendor catalogue that was on ebay that had a spot in it for LOTR sets? That info could pop up pretty soon... But that's just being hopeful.

Almost positive those were the 2013 LotR sets, or Orthanc.

True, but those are only a few of the considerations. Lego cycles through themes each year, and is always adding new licensed properties to it's lineup. It's a constant battle for shelf space, and it's a matter of cost-benefit analysis as to which licenses are best kept around, and which themes should be retired to free up room for new ones. We can only hope that Lego feels the same as we do in terms of doing one last LOTR wave, at the very least. (I would even argue that a D2C set like Minas Tirith would be the 'very least', and a full wave would be a step up from that - depending on how large such a D2C set would be, of course).

Well the question is what is so good from licensed stuff next year to ditch LOTR??? Is Superman and Batman or what it was duo movie coming 2015? I dont see anything else currently! And marvel/DC they already are producing.....

Excellent point, I haven't thought about that till now  Recently, TLG has always introduced at least one new licensed theme each year to make up for the loss of another similarily themed theme: LOTR/Hobbit replaced HP as the licensed fantasy theme whereas Disney themes Toy Story and Prince of Persia were followed by POTC and LR (even though there was a gap in 2012, but the Marvel sets obviously also count as part of the Disney themes  ). The only theme didn't get that sort of treatment was IJ, but it was still replaced by other new licenses the following year. Even though there's plenty of blockbusters on the horizon for 2015, none of them seem to have much potential to spawn a new LEGO theme (except Jurassic Parc maybe, but I think Megablocks got that one :hmpf_bad: ). On the other hand, TLG has now covered pretty much every live-action PG(-13) blockbuster franchise there is, so it's no wonder we probably won't get as many new ones as we already have in the past

Exactly... I just dont see anything that could replace LOTR/Hobbit in 2015 and since I heard License is acquired for the whole 2015 (possibly more???) they might very well (or already did) chose to bring 2 more waves (hopefully!)

Granted I Woul love LEGO Jurassic park!!!!

They could easily bring back POTC. After all, the new film was supposed to be coming out in 2015. Edited by Legoman123

Ya, but now it's a 2016 release so I doubt they would release the sets a whole year early.

I don't mean sets from the new movie, but possibly sets from the other four movies. The Flying Dutchman perhaps? Along with other sets of course.:grin:

Hence my comment in the other thread about "how do we know Lord of the Rings is actually ending?" If there's business sense in something, there's a good chance they'll do it. Much as I would love increased shelf space for Castle again . . . look at Star Wars. How many years has that been going now? Even years when there wasn't a movie?

Atreyu, I would be curious which forums these are that you are referencing. It would be nice to see more LOTR/Hobbit lego fan perspectives and information.

Unfortunately I think Star Wars is kind of a poor comparison. And as much as I like PoTC and Jurassic Park, I would much, much, much rather have a final wave of LoTR then any of those.

Exactly! We already have Dinohunters which was a knockoff of Jurassic Park down to the iconography and concept.

Lego will not be producing Jurassic Park sets regardless. It's been known for quite a while now that Hasbro has the license to create construction sets for the franchise under their Kreo banner.

Remember TLG's calculations aren't so much "number of licenses" as they are "square meters of retail shelf space." If Superheroes has in fact been designated as "Evergreen", it means it is moving up into the territory and shelf space currently occupied by lines like City and Star Wars. We will probably see a steady increase in the volume of those sets, and some shrinkages elsewhere.

If TLG does have LotR for 2015, than we might have some hope of another wave. You never know. But that could also simply be the blocking of the license. It would be nice to know how LotR and Hobbit wave 2 sales have been? I think increase or drop off would be a better indicator of another wave than anything else?

I doubt Superheroes theme would go ''Evergreen'' Its very limited despite so many Super Heroes out there (Avengers, Batman, Spiderman, etc) Now unless DC/Marvel plan to release A Super Hero movie every year from now on I can see Super Heroes go on breaks multiple times.... Also Super Hero sets are rather poor sellers in Europe (atleast compared to US) I keep seeing the same sets over and over everytime.....

Yes you are right that TLG is not so much about calculating number of licenses.... But imagine if LEGO is stuck up without ANY license except Super Heroes..... I bet there would be some kind of Alarm going up..... Some people just dont buy yellow head sets and so on and on....

Next year is a poor year for pretty much everything except for The Avengers (I think they're coming next year or is it this year? i forgot! ) and Castle ended (again) or on a break.... no pirates.... so the only thing so far for next year is LEGO themes (City Friends etc.) with Marvel/DC and evergreen SW.....

Actually the reports from the London toy fair talk about TLG indicating superheroes becoming evergreen. And superheroes are very popular.

As for licenses, one of the reasons for the Lego Movie is to help TLG grow their non licensed portion of the company. Not to be so reliant on the money they bring in. I suspect if the Lego movie, sets do really, well we will see more non licensed lines coming out.
