Is there only a limited time of the year when sets normally come out or something?

release dates will vary, but the they are split into Winter release waves and summer release waves, and merchants will see the catalogs ahead of time. Baring certain exclusives such as store exclusives and D2C sets we have a pretty good idea of what both 2014 release periods will entail. At this point the earliest we could possibly hope for a retail LotR wave would be Winter 2015. Although technically that would be real close to the last Hobbit wave. we can't rule out the possibility that Orthanc was the themes finale.

Indeed. Every time someone says that a theme ends on a large set and hopes that we get Minas Tirith, my mind goes back to Orthanc as the themes finale.

Lol I'm a total noob when it comes to comics so I didn't know if he was a good or bad guy

He is Groot! I am not sure the question completely applies? And yeah he is more than a bit "Ent'ish"

you seem to not understand how lego does its things. Are you expecting a lotr wave to come out of nowhere? after several toy fairs and retailers catalogues, and that for a 10+ year old trilogy with no potential for spoilers?

technicaly speculation sure. but the only option for 2014 is an exclusive set, and thats very doubtfull after we got orthanc last year.

Damn, I really can't believe we got a LOTR theme without the Gondor faction. How can this happen? :sceptic:

People said that about the Diagon Alley set from Harry Potter and we still got a few more sets down the road. The Lego Minifigure Year by Year book already confirmed that there would be a wave three, we just don't know what happened to it.

Maybe we will get another wave of sets if we get a second Hobbit video game. The only reason we got the game now was for the same reason Lego licensed LotR: in order to promote The Hobbit. If we get a second game, we may be able to get the final LotR wave to promote that game.

I think the twilight Witch King is a decent sign of a third LotR wave. It seems like a way to get two uses out of a single mold. But we don't know if that was the original plan that was scrapped or not. Only time will tell.

I don't think we'll see another Hobbit game. The missing levels from TABA are supposed to be released as DLC.

There's still the DVD release of TABA next year (theatrical version around April, Extended in December) and the possibility of a combined Hobbit/LOTR boxset so at least there will be something for a final wave of sets to promote.

I disagree. The only LOTR set that could have come with a Twilight Witch-King was Weathertop and we already got that back in the first wave.

Theres no need to use a mold twize. When they can do that its fine, but they make alot of single use molds.

A Lotr set with the twilight witch king can't offer anything people would want. More Frodo? Aragorn? Witch king already is coming in a cheap set aswell.

I understood his post to be suggesting that they could re-use the mold to make a normal (non-twilight) version of the Witch-King for a LotR set. Same mold, different plastic. (assuming we're talking about the helmet)

Bachamn, I was thinking of the helmet. However, the Hobbit thread is showing photos of the twilight version without a helmet. This is similar to when Frodo is wearing the ring. Assuming that is the version that is coming in the next Hobbit wave, there would not be any real use of it.

However, we don't know how he will appear when Galadriel fights him. I assume that will be in the final movie. I have not seen DoS yet. I was not happy with TabA. So I will only buy DoS when the Extended Edition comes out.

Not sure why I said 'helmet'; I meant 'crown'. They made a little crown for Thranduil, so possibly something like this would be made for the Hobbit version?

That is intriguing logic

I will buy it but then I will buy anything from LOTR, I am not too hopfull for sets now, not sure the hobbit set are doing too well. I think Lego should at least do another D2C set as if its the only LOTR set we get it will do very well and at least give us some gondor.

I for one would definitely buy those sets.

Despite surprisingly much discussion in this very thread, there is still no official announcement from Lego as to whether Lord of the Rings has ended; there's not even any consistency in people's reports about whether the Hobbit or Lord of the Rings sets have been selling, so you may well get your wishes and then some. Lego loves licensed sets right now, so I'd personally be surprised if either theme ends any time soon.

Too many minifigs in thosr dream sets and Gothmog aka evil charactrr slash orc general in army builder? What will u do with 10x Gothmogs ? ;)

Anyway sounds nice.but IF there will be some more sets which I hope for, it will be decent like wawe 2 I thing. I would like to have line scheme like wawe one, woth flagship like big fortress - that could be Osgiliath ( 130 bucks set with 8 minigigs - 2x gondorian knight, 1x ranger, Faramir, Nazgul, Gothmog and 2x orc.) then some battlepack with Osgiliath add on ( 1x knight, 1x ranger and 3 orcs with small boat and ruins) and then maybe Mount doom( small set with Frodo, Sam, Goll and Sauron) gate of Minas Morgul with Witch King and some.orcs, Treebeard with Merry and Pipin and maybe Lothlorien scene? The missing things we need could be in 4 sets like wave two and as DLC there could be Minas Tirith or Grey Heavens with old Bilbo, Gandalf, Celeborn, Cirdan the shipbuilder, Galadriel and Elrond...

Do they ever officially announce the end of a theme?

Do they ever officially announce the end of a theme?

Very rarely, I think Lego did once announce the end of 2009 Pirates to make way for more "Pirates" later on but, that is about it.

I do tend to think that Lego would be pretty pathetic to not release the Gonder faction in a third wave but, who knows. I know that Lego also announced the retirement of Indiana Jones to make way for Prince of Persia so, I wouldn't be too surprised if Lego decides to not do a third LOTR wave. I really do hope that they will however since I think that Lego should at least try to endevour to finish complete their product lines when they release a new Licensed theme and because I really will be disappointed if there is no Lego Gondor faction.

Sometimes. Normally when they are replacing a theme with something else, or if something is forcing a theme to be retired or locking it out. Examples would be Pirates retiring and withdrawing from shelves when they got the PotC license, Harry Potter having an announced hard retirement date as the 10 year license expired while sets were still on shelves (because HP had an unexpected 8th movie. We may face a similar Hobbit situation). And they had originally announced or at least admitted to Ninjago retiring and being replaced with Chima. At which point they were overwhelmed by angry parents calling and letter writing. I think we all know how that went.

Otherwise the big telling thing is when Lego stores start putting the entire line on clearance and not just say the first wave or a specific set. Such as we are seeing now with Galaxy Squad, and just recently saw with Monster Fighters.
