Risgrynsgrot Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Is this thread really even needed anymore? Other than discussing Ideas projects, there is nothing to be gained here, is there? No, everyone is beating a dead horse by now (in fact your question is too beating a dead horse) I'm positive LOTR is over, however just to make sure the thread should be up until the Summer 2015 rumours show up. Or someone just locks this and opens it up if rumours pop up (unlikely) Quote
Cammo Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 This new 'Elves' set reminds me of the prelim Lothlorien set: Quote
Cammo Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Well, the basic idea is there. 2 trees connected with a bridge. ;) I admit it's a complete overhaul colour- and designwise. Quote

We've been pretty liberal in this thread for off-topic stuff, but the Balrog versus Treebeard thing was even ridiculous by our lax standards. This thread is in great peril of closing unless there is something actually LotR set wise to talk about. I like the Elves angle here. At least it is about a future set that looks LotR-ish. Quote
Dragonlego27 Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Is this conversation still going on? Balrog wins. Debate over. Is this thread really even needed anymore? Other than discussing Ideas projects, there is nothing to be gained here, is there? Not really, but for me ending this thread would be basically admitting that the LOTR line is truly and officially over and there isn't going to be another wave. Quote
Blakstone Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 While there might be discussion still going about sets that might be useful or even IDEAS projects, I think the best thing would be to unpin this topic. Once that is done, I think it will die on its own. Quote

Other than discussing Ideas projects, there is nothing to be gained here, is there? I think the fact LOTR is doing well now on ideas does mean that this topic still has its place also I don't get why any topic needs to be closed if people think its over they don't have to come on this topic, the fact that people are means that its still wanted. Lets also make sure we don't see anything next summer. While there might be discussion still going about sets that might be useful or even IDEAS projects, I think the best thing would be to unpin this topic. Once that is done, I think it will die on its own. A good idea, let it live or die, let the people decide. Edited December 9, 2014 by SMC Quote
ZCerberus Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 The problem is that the topic keeps devolving into other wacky stuff, like does Treebeard win in a fight against the Balrog. Ugh. I can tolerate that on occasion, but if that is ALL we have to talk about, then the thread is truly dead. Quote
SMC Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 ^ I can understand that and its nice that we do have tolerance of going off topic but yes it has gone too far. But as there is not a lot to talk about it is not really hurting the topic. Quote
SirBlake Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 That elves set is awesome. Swap out some colors and that is ready to fit in really nicely with castle/middle earth stuff. Quote
greenalfonzo Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 (edited) Speaing of the new Elves set and Lothlorien, has anyone adapted the Ewok Village set in the same way? I'm thinking about doing Mirkwood with it. Edited December 11, 2014 by greenalfonzo Quote

Deathleech Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 I generally try to read every post in a thread I am following, but that's not the case with this thread. When I see someone posting their wish list for a wave three, or dream set, I generally just skip the post right away. There are only so many variations of a Minas Tirith or Balrog set that can be done. I know right away that the proposed set will be like at least one of the HUNDREDS of other sets people have already brought up before. As for the off topic stuff, it can be fun and something to talk about, but most of it just has just gotten ridiculous in this thread. Plus if people want to discuss it in the future, a new thread can always be made for off topic discussions. I guess what I am saying is I see no real reason to keep this thread alive either... To keep this post at least somewhat on topic, I have to say I am not a huge fan of the Lothlorien set on Lego Ideas. Don't get me wrong, the build is beautiful and I supported it so Lego can hopefully see several LotR sets are still wanted by fans. With that said though, it would offer nothing really new we can't build ourselves. Celebor is the only new minifigure. All the others would be ones we already got in previous sets. The build isn't seen much in the movies. I would MUCH rather see a set like Disco's make it into the review stage. I was bummed when it fell out of the popular this week spotlight. Either that, or a Balrog set. I think along with the Minas Tirith, those two are the next most needed sets. Quote
HawkLord Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 (edited) I would bet money against an Ideas LOTR project being produced. Ideas has been great for single-shot licensed sets or sets that don't fit nicely into the current themes. Plus, Ideas doesn't incorporate sets as big as Lothlorien or Minas Tirith. As much as I would love LOTR to continue, no news is a sign. I wish there was something here to discuss, but I would agree with the mods that this thread can be safely unpinned or closed, as it has de-evolved into wish listing and off topic discussion. ZCerberus Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 I really dont get the problem if people find this topic worthless then they dont have to read it. We don't want the topic to be worthless though. If the topic is title "future LotR sets" we want it to contain discussion on future LotR sets so people WANT to read it. Quote
Darth Punk Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 Maybe you should just retitle it LoTR ideas projects. Unpin it and let it die peacefully. Quote
Dr.Cogg Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 I think one of the big problems with this LotR forum is that we are in a limbo (by Lego),because there is no news on any new LotR sets and there is no theme shown to replace LotR(Castle or Fantasy), and most likely Lego will shoot down any LotR sets on Ideas (Lego will most likely say the Minis Tirith set is to big). Quote
AFOLguy1970 Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 Just like most businesses, Lego would not likely announce that they are discontinuing a theme. They just quietly let it die like Harry Potter, Indiana Jones, Lone Ranger, POTC, etc. As much as I hate to say this, I agree that it is unlikely Lego would produce a LOTR Ideas project. Sure, a lot of us would buy a Minas Tirith, but who knows how difficult it would be for Lego to actually produce it? The license and large size of the set would be the biggest hurdles. The only hope would be that someone in Lego recognizes that there is a demand for something more, and many people feel like there is a gaping hole in the line. In other words, hope for a situation like Bionicle or Ninjago where Lego recognized there was a significant fan base. In the meantime, it is probably going to be very quiet from TLG in terms of LOTR. I would say unpin the thread and see what happens. Quote
Blazej_Holen Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 Maybe its finally time to shut this thread down right? No need to discuss it :) Quote
Bugbot2008 Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 I see no reason to take the action to close the thread, not until we get official confirmation that lotr projects have no hope of success on ideas... Unpin for sure, threads about specific projects and moc's will be more enjoyable reading and less repetitive. Also I wouldn't move anything over to the general licence-theme page, as I heard long time ago was suggested, leave it all in the historic section as is. Quote
Blazej_Holen Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 Well I see no reason to keep it "alive". Quote
Bugbot2008 Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 Well I see no reason to keep it "alive". Granted, I agree completely, but people will naturally let it die when nothing new is added, I'm just saying don't make the effort yet to kill it on the spot so no one can say anymore. Just unpin as others have said and it will take it's own due course with time like any other topic Unless things work on here differently, I'm new after all :) Quote
HawkLord Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 The problem with unpinning it is that it will still rise to the top with useless posts that push other relevant topics or MOCs down. Look how long the balrog vs treebeard debate lasted. How many of those posts would have bumped other historical theme posts down, if this thread wasn't pinned? Quote
