atreyu2112 Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 There would also appear to be two Orthancs, one official, the other shorter and...gray? No, that's Cirith Ungol, the tower they brought Frodo to after he was stung by Shelob. Quote
Ql97 Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 No, that's Cirith Ungol, the tower they brought Frodo to after he was stung by Shelob. That looks nothing like Cirith Ungol. That is Orthanc, in every aspect except for the color. Quote
Brickadiergerard Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 Whatever that LDD represents, it doesn't represent the continuation of LOTR. Natethebate's response email from Lego customer service makes that completely clear- "Thanks for getting in touch with us. I’m sorry but we aren’t making any new Lord of the Rings sets any more." It's heartbreaking, but if that's right, there's no ambiguity at all. It's over. To paraphrase Frodo (in the books at least), "It is dead then. I feared it was so." Quote
Dr.Cogg Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 I never said that image was news, I just posted it, because it looked interesting, what I would really like to see are Preliminaries of the sets that were not released, because unless TLG decides to give us a D2C Minis Tirith, LotR is nearly dead (would be dead, but LotR is in Lego Dimentions) Quote
Deathleech Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 So what is it, just someones MOCs/LDD versions you found then? Quote
Dr.Cogg Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 (edited) It's just something I found while looking at google images and since there was nothing else to talk about, I figured I would post it. Edited June 19, 2015 by Dr.Cogg Quote
Bugbot2008 Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 I guess this is the final green light for 3rd party manufactures to go ahead with the new moulds we need? Quote

I too think the chances of new LOTR sets are close to none but, honestly, I won't consider customer service the "ultimate sources of knowledge". There are many things they are not informed about, especially the company long term plans. They are always polite and very helpful when it comes to orders but I noticed there are many things, even about current sets, themes and promotions, they ignore. It's because they are not told everything. Just my my two cents on the matter Quote
BrickJagger Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 ^ It's officially dead once Lego itself announces the end of the line on the Lego.com message boards. They've never been wrong there. Knowing this, I looked around in the Lotr section and found this, posted by a Moderator: "LEGO Lords of the Rings and LEGO The Hobbit have been retired. Unfortunately older themes simply must be retired to make way for the themes of the future. We just can't make everything forever." I'm fairly sure that those Mods can't tell the kids on the message boards that a theme is discontinued unless they are 100 percent certain, for quite obvious reasons. So, I, Dr. BrickJagger, proclaim this theme to be dead. An autopsy will follow shortly. Quote
General Magma Posted June 19, 2015 Author Posted June 19, 2015 Well, at least my wallet is happier now. Quote
HawkLord Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 So, I, Dr. BrickJagger, proclaim this theme to be dead. An autopsy will follow shortly. Will there be a report on the cause of death? Because that has been hugely debated. :P Seems to me it was suicide... Quote
Deathleech Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 I don't think that is really a surprise? Anyone expecting a new LotR wave was just being optimistic. The last LotR wave came out over two years ago and there haven't been any Middle-Earth sets released since the last Hobbit wave in October 2014 If Lego was going to release another wave, they would have done it by now. Most likely January of this year, and definitely in the summer wave if it was going to happen. With that said there is still hope we might get some new minifigure prints and molds through Dimensions. A D2C set was also something people were also hoping for, though the possibility of that seems pretty much dead at this point. I doubt we will get anything substantial in terms of builds in Dimensions, but the Witch King, Sauron, and Eowyn all seem very likely in fun packs. A team pack MIGHT include a Gondor Soldier seeing as how the JW one had an ACU trooper. I wouldn't bet on that though. At this point I would just be ecstatic to get any of those three characters I mentioned before. Then all we would be missing is an entire faction rather than an entire faction and two huge heroes, lol... Quote
Mott the Brick Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 Man such a shame to hear that! I wanted a new wave...... . But I am not surprised but kept some little slight hope that Lego might just release more sets. Well we never got Minas Tirith, Witch King with Fell Beast and Eowyn, no Cirith Ungol, no Grond, Oliphant, Osgiliath, Mountain trolls, Balrog and bridge of Khazad-dum, Guardian of Moria, Lothlorien, Treebeard, Mount Doom, more of Shire, prancing pony, amon hen, and (insert new location or item). Sigh, lots of things left that could have made a last few quick buck off this franchise. Maybe in the near future, some sets could be released again just like with the Harry Potter line...... Quote
LegoThomas Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 Awful news to start the day with. But not new/surprising. Do you guys remember around that time the theme came out? I was just reminiscing about how i imagined future sets to be... What a wasted opportunity and what a big shame. Quote

NateTheBait Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 I found this on a lego lotr ideas page. Thoughts? Welcome to the 1k Club! At this milestone, we’ve done a preliminary check with licensing regarding your project. The LEGO Group already owns the licensing rights for the IP or licensed property on which your project is based, so we don't see any conflicts or issues. Please note our Project Guidelines regarding projects that may unintentionally overlap our product development pipeline. Great minds think alike, and so naturally projects that reference an active LEGO license have a higher chance of overlapping with our pipeline. While we welcome projects like yours on LEGO Ideas and wish you luck gaining supporters, understand we can't comment on future LEGO products in development. You have been green lighted to keep growing supporters; we will do a more detailed check if you reach 10,000 supporters and qualify for the LEGO Review. Robert_88 Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 I found this on a lego lotr ideas page. Thoughts? ... It's basically just a nice way to tell people that there will never be an Ideas set from an existing license. Honestly this doesn't really bother me as long as TLG understands that we want such a set. @LotR: Let's hope for some new minifigures from the Dimensions line. I think there is still a realistic chance to get some. Anyway I will NEVER stop asking for new LotR sets! Quote

We should have everything seen in those pictures in a set of some form. What a joke, Lego! What a slap in the face. No: Sauron (the reason for it all), no Balrog (most iconic scene/beast in FotR), no Treebeard (but we got his generic decrepit cousin), no Witch-King (he's only the Darth Vader of LotR idiots), no Fell Beast (waste, I would have bought at least 5), no Eowyn (kills WK and brings the houses of Gondor & Rohan together with that dude), no Faramir, no Gondor Soldier, no Gondor/Osgiliath build ... But hey... We got the Mouth of Sauron (even though he was only in a 20 second scene in only the home Released EE dvd, & no one cared anyway)! Oh, and let's not forget about getting that Pirate Ship, I mean boat, I mean that thing that was also I the film all of 20 seconds and nothing happened on it... But what do I know... They poured all that loved into the OTHER trilogy directed by PJ that was so well received by fans and critics alike. They must be in better touch with reality than I am. They must know what the kids want... Like that Council set that was flying off the shelves, favored so much over releasing an action set that included the Balrog. Ever I shall remain hopeful, but alas... My ship leaves for Valinor... And back into my dark age. Edited June 20, 2015 by atreyu2112 Quote
LegoThomas Posted June 21, 2015 Posted June 21, 2015 I was never disappointed with the second wave, because i always thought there would be a third/final wave with all these awesome sets we desperately wanted. Somehow i believe that some people at TLG are with us on that. And then there was PJ... I always felt the opposite. I was severely disappointed with wave two because it meant the more important stuff would be pushed back to later waves, or worse yet might not ever come. Well low and behold here we are without anymore waves. Quote
SMC Posted June 21, 2015 Posted June 21, 2015 When I saw wave two my first thought was wow we must be getting a 3rd wave. This cant be it, but it was. Quote
