Darth Draks Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 Hi Guys, haven't been active for a while but thought I would share what I have. I'm maybe 90% sure the LOTR line will continue in 2015, the line is huge within LEGO internally. Not to sure if its a new wave of sets but I think its likely to be a bigger set like the orthanc, time will tell. Quote
SirBlake Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 Don't toy with my emotions, Draks. I'm fragile. Quote
Blakstone Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 Regardless we should know once the last Hobbit wave hits the shelves. Either their instructions will confirm LotR wave 3 with an ad or we can be certain there will be no more waves. It is just a couple more months wait either way. Quote
Dr.Cogg Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 Here's a simple way to look at it which is more exciting this or this this or this this or this or this Quote
Faefrost Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 Are you sure this is such a big deal for kids? I know even as a kid I wished for more earth tones (not least for army MOCs) rather than have everything built with gaudy primary colors. Its not really overwhelming evidence, but still. Earth tones are nice to actually have in your pool of parts. But they don't grab the attention and sell the sets typically. At least not in anything outside the AFOL focused D2C advanced lines. Kids like a bit of color. It doesn't have to be the classic primary colors. But some splash to make the boxes stand out on the shelves is nice. That's why the Castle sets use things like blue or red trim. The LotR sets have suffered a bit from a distinct lack of accent color, or anything to make any of the sets really pop into the passerby's attention while they are still on the shelf. It's not the fault of Lego. This was the art direction of the film, and it works perfectly for that. And they stayed very faithful to it. Quote

bachamn Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 Still, they lack the vast amount of tie-ins Star Wars and Superheroes got, the most important really, cartoons. Well, not technically true, but might as well be ;) Quote
MAB Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 The ship was generally considered to be hinting at Pirates. There's no reason Pirates and Castle can't run at the same time; there's no perceived clash like with Castle and Lord of the Rings. My point was, I doubt we will see a large / decent non-licensed castle set or range if they are going to reboot the non-licensed pirates. I expect they will either give castle another rest, or keep it highly <insert that tiresome argument> if there is going to be a pirates set / theme aimed at older kids / afols. Pirates and castle, although different themes, appeal to a similar set of kids and there will be a large number that would want both. Personally, I don't think that the current non-licensed castle range overlaps with LOTR (or Hobbit), and that non-licensed pirates are probably closer to non-licensed castle than castle is to LOTR. The current castle sets are very child oriented sets, in comparison to LOTR. Especially when you consider this year's offering of 10676 is a juniors set. In fact, they were producing 70404 and 70403 (both older kids / possibly afol oriented sets) in 2013, and Joust in 2012, during waves 1 and 2 of LOTR. So they had more afol oriented sets coexisting with LOTR. Quote
Lancethecat Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 They may have another pirates wave two years from now when the next Pirates of the Caribbean movie is released, plus we're going to have another pirate ship released next year (which may or may not be tied in with an entire theme). Quote
atreyu2112 Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 Dr. Cogg ... genius Dr. Cogg! Don't forget this: I sure hope you're right Darth Draks... But please pass along that it would have to include the Balrog, Treebeard & the Witch King & Fell Beast Quote
Robert_88 Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 The new Hobbit sets will be released in October. Let's hope they will include a LotR advertisement! @Darth Draks: Do you know something you can't say? Quote
Legoman123 Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 I hope we do get more LOTR sets, there is so much potential. Quote
Hammerhand Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 (edited) I think we all agree we want more LOTR... The new Hobbit sets will be released in October. Let's hope they will include a LotR advertisement! This actually gave me an idea... Do you guys think that Brotherhood Workshop would be able to tell us if there's a LOTR advertisement in the back of the Hobbit Instructions, since they (pretty much confirmed) got the Smaug set from the Hobbit? I think it might be worth it to ask them. Edited July 23, 2014 by Hammerhand Quote

Blakstone Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 I would just ask if there is an ad in the back of the instructions for future sets of any line. A Yes would not disclose much but a No would be better clear to me. Quote
General Magma Posted July 23, 2014 Author Posted July 23, 2014 The new Hobbit sets will be released in October. Who told you this? Quote
deskp Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Who told you this? LEGO did in a press release. Quote

Hammerhand Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 I don't have FB, so someone else will have to ask, if they want to. SMC, I doubt they would get an already built set or a non-finished set. I don't think lego would give them a set unless it was the same as the one they're releasing. Quote
Robert_88 Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 Somebody already asked them (20 minutes ago). Now we have to wait. Quote
Alcarin Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 Have to say absence of advertisement is not 100% end of LOTR though... I believe a true end to LOTR is once we have the whole 2015 set list and LOTR is not on it... that is when Ill be certain! Quote

Deathleech Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 Supposedly the Australian Lego catalogue list some LotR sets or makes mention of them or something? I am still trying to find where this info was from, but that is at least a glimmer of hope... Quote
