Just a little question: what good does it do to LEGO to keep us in the dark about the future of the LotR and Hobbit themes?

Would it result in bad sales if they told us nothing more is coming? Because if I would knew that Middle-Earth is done for, I would buy every current LotR and Hobbit set I can!

If they would tell me there's more to come, I would maybe leave some money for the upcoming sets.

Is this a good sign?

How do you guys think official statements would affect sales?

I mean, for people like ourselves who actually pay attention it would drive sales for those individuals (like yourself) who have not already bought what was out, or possible MOC builders who want duplicate fodder. But as a whole, and speaking as someone who didn't pay attention to LEGO at all until I saw LotR on the shelves, I don't think most people would be aware of said announcement for it to have an impact on the larger quantity of sales.

This is what Kevin Ulrich from Brotherhood Workshop has to say about the matter on his facebook page: <<no new LEGO LOTR from what I know. I believe that line has run it's course.>> Since he's in possession of the Smaug set, we can assume he's got the instruction booklet too, so he surely would have noticed if it mentioned a new LOTR wave. However, this should be taken with a grain of salt for two reasons: 1) Kevin owns the set itself, but we don't know in what condition TLG has sent it to him, i.e. it might have been pre-assembled (which I don't think is that likely) and 2) There might have been an ad in the instruction booklet after all, but he's simply not allowed to talk about it  I wouldn't raise my hope nonetheless

Brotherhood Workshop is working on a new epic Lord of the Rings video. When I asked them yesterday about it, this is what they said:

"Brian, no new LEGO LOTR from what I know :'( I believe that line has run it's course."

^ wait, what?

It shouldn't be the end. I still believe they split the waves and there is some material ready to be produced (if they would want to) that's why they didn't go all out on the second wave, the third needed to be a blast (with Gondor, Witch-King, Eowyn, Balrog and big Minas Tirith)

Please?

Trunkbass, in an infinite universe, all things are possible. However, it has been over a year since the last LotR item was released. Brotherhood Workshop would not have to know about it, but since LEGO contracted with them for a Hobbit video, it make sense that they might. But their answer is a firm one. They have not knowledge of a future line.

I will hound them & annoy them until we have the sets or they flat out say the line is done. If you want more sets, email them and tell them what you want. Post to their Facebook page the same thing. Tell them exactly what you want.

Keep telling Lego we want one more wave of LotR sets!

Not everyone is the same. Some people might stop buying current sets cold turkey if they know there will be no more after the third Hobbit wave. Maybe they didn't get what they wanted and see no point in continuing to buy sets for an "incomplete" line. Maybe someone that just learned about the LotR/Hobbit sets wants to get into them, but if they find out the line is ending they see no point. If you don't make any official announcement, these type of people would still potentially buy sets.

You say you would buy more existing sets if you knew the LotR and Hobbit themes were done? I think you are the minority. For most people, not knowing is a benefit to Lego. If Lego doesn't release anymore sets after the next Hobbit wave I will probably go back and try to stock up on more orcs, wargs, and maybe some other factions. If they do release more I will save my money and buy tons of Gondor Soldiers and hopefully new printed orcs. If I have no idea what Lego is doing I might just buy tons of older sets with orcs AND the newer ones when they come out.

I doubt he is in minority...... I stopped buying LOTR and might only buy Orthanc if theme is done (aka next year around June) thats it...... I have 105 Uruks 15 Rohan soldiers on horses with spears and shields Eomer, Gandalf the fight and helm's Deep to recreate assault of Rohirrim.... thats it....

If LOTR is done I might buy additioanl 20 uruks and 10 Rohan soldiers to populate Helm's Deep and then Im done.

Let's face it, as much as it saddens me to say it, it does indeed look like the LOTR line is finished, put it this way, if they do release more LOTR sets I will be mightily surprised! However if this is all we get, then it is a massive missed opportunity for LEGO, who unfortunately have been pretty foolish in some/most of their set decisions, I mean why the hell have a Mouth of Sauron or a Corsair of Umbar before Eowyn, Faramir, Witch King, Gondor soldier etc.

Well regardless Lego has nothing to gain by announcing a line is done. What do they get out of it? People might go back and buy more existing sets? I doubt it. People will probably do that anyways if they don't get anything new for awhile or if they think the line is done. Not knowing entices people. Look at all the chumps who bought the SDCC Azog last year for 1200 bucks only to have him released a few months later in a $70 set.

I only started being a completest after I saw the waves getting smaller, so people might by whats out there if that's all there is

It is unfortunate that the line very well could be over. I just don't think the darker colors hit it off with the target audience. Plus the movies themselves aren't in the mind's eye like Hobbit is. Hobbit seems very kid friendly in comparison. So much, I have not enjoyed those movies as much. The sets are okay, but mostly because I want to hold onto a more medieval type of LEGO theme.

I doubt I would go back and buy more if I haven't already, so until they officially confirm it is over, I don't see much changing. But have they ever really confirmed anything is over? As far as I know the Harry Potter theme just ended without any actual confirmation of it ending. They just give the big send off and call it good...which is what Orthanc must have been.

It'd be nice to find 2012 sets at reasonable prices again. I'd pick up some extras of those if I had another chance. But 2013 sets are all one and done for me.

They confirmed Harry Potter was ending because the license was running out while they still had product on store shelves. It was in their interest to say "buy it now, it goes away forever in 60 days", in that rare set of circumstances. For most licenses they will expect the product to naturally EOL long before the end date of the license, and they will stop making new at a minimum 12 months before. But because of the unexpected 8th HP movie they had to cut their 10 year HP license closer to the wire than they would like.

They also confirmed that Sponge Bob was done, once the license ended and Megabloks announced they had it. I do believe they sort of unofficially said "hell no" to the question of more Speed Racer and Last Airbender, but I don't think that was ever a real major question in anyone's mind.)

Everything else just quietly fades naturally.

Of course he is in the minority. Everyone reading this thread is in the minority. We are the far end of the niche customer. There are only a few thousand of us. We in no way reflect the consumer habits of the regular retail customers.

Good luck in buying 10 more Rohirim, their BL prices are getting insane!!! http://www.bricklink.com/search.asp?itemID=110074

I think the best we can do at this point is assume the worst and start supporting any LOTR based projects on Ideas. And not just by voting for them but also help spread the word. Even if they don't pass review we are still showing that there is a strong enough interest in this line. All these projects have less than a year to get the necessary support and its better to push them now before they're removed from the website rather than just wait for confirmation on the fate of the line.

People always say we are in minority etc..... and then LEGO is trying to crack resellers buying tons of supplies of same set and selling later, if we were truly a minority (maybe we are numbers wise, but not budget wise anymore) then LEGO would not care for resellers and noone would be banned for buying 100 Exo Suits etc.....

I stopped taking this as the truth long ago, when i saw actions from LEGO and when I saw prices.....

Unless he has been sent the official boxed set, it could be meaningless. He may have a rough pre-production print of the instructions, not the official version with ads in. It may even be that he was send the set just as parts and a pre-print of the instructions before it is finalised. If he doesn't say what he has got, it could be either.

And even then lack of ads for LOTR in Hobbit instructions is not 100% indicator.... the 100% indicator of NO LOTR for me is 2015 set list......

I agree but I'm sure there would be an ad if there are new sets.
