Ql97 Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Some bad news. For the most part D2C is just as forbidden from new unique tooling as Ideas. The only exception they ever made for that was the Large Train Wheels (and maybe the UCS X Wing canopy although they have been using that in retail now.) the problem is the size of production run. Ideas sets are made in runs of 10-20,000. D2C a bit more but not too much. A big D2C set maybe 50,000 to 100,000 initial run? Maybe a little more for Star Wars. Regular retail sets will easily hit production runs of 10x that. Up to 1 million + pieces. Only regular retail sets can absorb and amortize the costs of new tooling. So even if we were to get an Ideas Minas Tirith or a D2C one, without another full retail wave the best we could see would be new printings on existing parts. Excelent point, Faefrost. The angle I am coming from is at least there's a small chance of getting maybe 1 new mold for a D2C set, while with ideas there's a less than 0 chance. Quote
Jason7189 Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 Hey guys, there is still hope, maybe Lego will finish what they started when they do The Silmarillion. Quote
Mahtion Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 Hey guys, there is still hope, maybe Lego will finish what they started when they do The Silmarillion. Haha good one! The Sil is full of incest, kinslayings, genocide, despair and futile hope. Sounds like a great kids movie. Quote
Deathleech Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 the fact that there is not a lotr set on ideas at 10,000 already maybe shows a bit of the problem That's kind of what I am thinking. I just don't think LotR has the same huge fan base as some of Lego's other themes. As great as all the Ideas projects are, most don't even have 1,000 votes. The only reason Nuju's has over 5,000 is because it was on Cuusoo for a few years before all it's existing votes were grand fathered over to Ideas. Rakrondewl's Minas Tirith has been up for almost 50 days now and doesn't even have 500 votes. It's averaging about 10 votes a day.. at that rate it will only have roughly 3500 votes when it meets it's deadline which is a hefty 2/3 short of what it needs to even be considered for production. I am just hoping Lego's next castle theme will give us some soldiers that kind of resemble Gondor Soldier. all we need are some pointly curved helms, Roman Shield in gray with black, and some gray shiny new chest armor on a black minifigure torso. Sure it wouldn't have the white tree symbol, but it would be close enough to make due. Haha good one! The Sil is full of incest, kinslayings, genocide, despair and futile hope. Sounds like a great kids movie. Ya, Lego would just pick p Game of Thrones over the Similarion. It's got a lot more attention right now anyways. Quote
Black Numenorean Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 my only reason why i left my dark age is about lotr sets. Quote
Trunkbass Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 (edited) my only reason why i left my dark age is about lotr sets. The same for me. I'm not sure what to do regarding collecting LEGO, because I'm really only interested in Middle-Earth at the moment. Locations can be MOCced, but minifigures and molded creatures not. I really hope we get one last wave to 'complete' the theme, with at least a new Gondor helmet and Witch-King helmet. I know most of us would still want more than one wave to cover things from the LOTR prologue and stuff like that but if we got the Witch-King and a Gondor soldier a lot of our problems would be solved in my opinion. SMC Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 I agree that even a small set covering part of gondor would help cover a very big hole Quote
konig78 Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 I left my dark age with star wars approximately one year ago, but only lotr really convinced me. We really need one last wave in order to complete such theme. As widely discussed in this topic there are too many characters that are still missing as well as locations. Honestly speaking why are we so pessimistic for a last wave? I'm still hoping. Quote
SMC Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 Honestly speaking why are we so pessimistic for a last wave? I'm still hoping. because everything we have seen, been told, know is not looking good Quote
konig78 Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 yes but as far as we know, TLG has not confirmed the end of the LOTR line. Am I wrong? that could give us a sparkle of hope. Quote
Mahtion Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 my only reason why i left my dark age is about lotr sets. Me as well, however I was close to ending my Dark age when seeing the Star Wars sets. LOTR pushed me over the top. In the end LOTR will be the reason for coming back to Lego after a decade but not the reason I stay. Lego does have more offerings than ever before. Quote
Trunkbass Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 There is no advertisement for a new LOTR wave in the instructions of the upcoming Hobbit sets (cf. Hobbit 2014 thread). I almost kicked my Tower of Orthanc to the ground to channel my frustrations (but luckily I didn't). I guess it is really over now... Quote
Robert_88 Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 I guess it is really over now... Yes. Honestly I'm quite angry. There is no excuse for ignoring Gondor. It's just stupid! Did they even watch the movies? Quote

BrickBob Studpants Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 Yeah, LOTR is definitely over The absence of sets in the retailer catalogue and the lack of advertisement in the Hobbit instructions is pretty conclusive evidence... Quote
Trunkbass Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 (edited) They always stated from the beginning that, next to being promotional for the Hobbit movies, they would bring us LOTR because of the massive fan requests over the last decade. BUT HOW COULD THEY LEAVE GONDOR OUT OF IT THEN?!! The main faction of the third movie, yes the movie that has won 11 oscars and holds an all-time-record!! Why? wesker Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 at least we got the all important boat I seriously have no idea what they were thinking with those set choices in the second wave, but there's no doubt they played a big part in killing the line. Quote
Trunkbass Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 I still really don't understand. If the waves were split, and they probably were, then there are two to three partly finished LOTR sets that weren't produced. This theory follows the assumption that there were originally two waves planned for each theme, each consisting of about 6 to 7 sets, like the first Hobbit and LOTR waves. I guess we can blame Peter Jackson too then. The decision to make three Hobbit movies has probably left us with less LOTR sets (but not that many more Hobbit sets).. Quote
kevkipo Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 I'm so sorry for you guys, i really am... Quote
Blazej_Holen Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 So thats pretty much it... Hobbit is complete, and thre is just weird tastge in my mouth when I take look at my LOTr colection...If I knew this earlier I will be focusing only on Rohan x Uruks conflict and dont waste my money on other sets because without Gondor and some Rohan and Mordor addiction this story with my lego cannot be complete. Such a waste of potencial. Such ignorance. I will write to Lego Company in few days to get some explanation form them, honestly I dont expect any regular explanation, just sea of non-saying words about "how they apreciate me as a Fun but sadly..bla bla bla..and dont forget to fill small questionary to us as a feedback"... couple of bull shit. Never the less, I spent my money on those last Hobbit sets, maybe this time I buy several of them LT and BOFA for sure. And then I will return to my dark ages. My last investment into LOTR was Orthanc.. and that will be it as I can see... Quote
sahidko Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 (edited) ... And then I will return to my dark ages... Same here unfortunately, for me Lego has started and it is going to end with Middle Earth. Edited August 25, 2014 by sahidko Quote
