Deathleech Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 I wish Brickarms or Brick Forge would give us some stuff that looks similar to the Gondor armor and Witch King helm. They could make a KILLING if they did this. Then we could use existing Lego parts to make our own Gondor faction and Witch King fairly easily. Quote

While I would prefer official parts (mostly thinking helmets/shields), I would definitely buy at least 20 from an aftermarket source if they were available. Quote
atreyu2112 Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 I totally agree that there were probably other sets planned. I blame the end of the line on two things: PJ splitting the Hobbit into three films, and Lego releasing Pirate Ship, Wizard Battle, Black Gate, and Council of Elrond in front of the Gondor sets. Had they reversed the order of release and stuck with the main scenes first in the second wave, we might have had Gondor sets and would then be getting the more obscure ones in a third wave as a sort of bonus. THIS. I can't even begin to tell you how asinine it is to get those 4 lame sets over the Balrog, Witch King/Fell Beast/Eowyn, and a couple Gondor sets with Faramir/Gondor Soldiers/Gothmog It really makes me angry, because time and time again (Toy Biz 6" line, Art Asylum Mini Mates, and even The Bridge Direct) Lord of the Rings/Middle Earth is the ONE brand that always gets cut short and dies a sad premature death. Luckily, they will be at NYCC, so I will have the chance to voice my opinion in person. Quote
Ql97 Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 I think if we got just one Gondor set and a Middle-Earth book with old Bilbo then that would just about cover the minimum needed. Exactally! Minas Tirith with Eowyn, Faramir, Denathor, Angmar, some Gondorian soldiers and maybe Gothmog and new versions of Merry and Pippin. Combined with old Bilbo, that would cover the last unmade major characters. Quote

Faefrost Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Good point as usual, but I would think that TLG would come out and say it, in an official e-mail or via a LEGO rep, if it was really not its call, to avoid the backlash from AFOLs. Is there a reason TLG (or WB or whoever is involved) would be so secretive? The first rule of licensing... you do not talk about licensing or license contracts ever. Or almost never. Doing so can reflect badly on the licensing partner or have unintended effects on other business arrangements and future partnerships. It is just standard business practice. And there are good valid reasons for doing it. Typically when they do talk about licenses it will be in vague non specific terms. ie "actual specifics will very from license to license and each license will define the build to minifig ratios" etc. They will never say "For LotR we must have X and Y and must always include Z". For a similar reason they cannot say yet that LotR is officially retired. Because it is technically tied to the Hobbit license and we have a forthcoming Hobbit wave. Talking about discontinuing the LotR line can and will have a negative impact on sales for the last Hobbit wave. Quote
SMC Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 It is odd that next year there will be no LOTR and no castle, surly there is room for a small last LOTR line with there bring no space and only 3 small lego movie sets. I think the license must still be running, if Lego know it was coming to an end why give us the wave two they did, the only reason would be if they were planning to make more but then saw bad sales but if the license was ending and they know wave two was the last then what were they thinking? Quote
The_Chosen_1 Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 I'm EXTREMELY disappointed, if a bit unsurprised, by the end of the LOTR theme. It's a sad time, for sure. Quote

I'm almost 100% certain that wave 2 wasn't supposed to be the last. But I'm also 100% certain that it will be. There really isn't any room in 2015. Age of Ultron, Jurassic World, The Simpsons, Justice League, and more that I just can't think of right now. It's pretty crowded. Quote

Blakstone Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 I agree that wave 2 likely was not go if to be the end. I think it was all The LEGO Movie sets that took up the shelf and production space. But the Top Gear sets are also in the 2015 catalog. Quote
Galactic13 Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 I know that the new Hobbit sets have not come out to the public, but I know that there are some people out there that have at least one of those sets. I previous years they always promoted the next year of sets at the back of the instructions. So if by chance there is some one out there that we could ask about that, that would give a clue as to the future of this theme. Quote

The thing is, a few pages earlier we already asked for them this information, and they already said that there were no LOTR advertisements in the instructions... So, we are presuming that there will be no more Middle Earth waves.. Quote
Galactic13 Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 I guess we will have to wait till October to find out for sure. Quote

They said they were definitely considering it, but they wanted to see what would happen with the LoTR line (didn't want to come out with an element, then TLG comes out with the same armor/helmet/whatever). So there's hope for non-purist solutions! Quote

I ordered some of their elements in the past and they're pretty good so I will definitively not be purist: anything that resembles LOTR I'll buy Quote

So there's hope for non-purist solutions! This does sound sensible. Both brickforge and brickwarriors have had some of their popular parts "copied" by lego in official form and it of course dents their sales. I would have bought loads more Roman shields from BW if lego had not released their CMF Roman Soldier. But the unofficial BW one now looks like a fake next to the official one, even though it came first. Same with the goblin shield with hand print from BF. Once it is clear lego has finally finished with the theme, I hope a lot of customisable gaps are filled. Edited September 1, 2014 by MAB Quote
greenalfonzo Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 I would go for an 'Eowyn' eye-guard Rohan helm, a Gondor helm, and a Gondor-shaped shield. Also, some Orc helmets closely modeled on ones seen in the movies would be great. Quote

Risgrynsgrot Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 What's worse is that we got two a Gondor Set (Black Gate) and still didn't get a Gondor Fig! Quote

Was the Toy Biz line very incomplete? I remember being fairly pleased with the selection, if not the quality. So many of the FOTR entries suffered from dopey action features and were generally crap, but I thought most (if not all) were revisited with much-improved figures before it ended... At least we got a proper Witch King, Dernhelm Eowyn, Rohan Merry, Gondor Pippin, Faramir, Gondor soldiers, etc Quote

They had pretty much every main and minor character made into a figure with tons of soldiers and variants to boot... *sigh* Quote
Blazej_Holen Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 (edited) I desperatelly need this fig as well (as add on to Eowyn, Faramir, Witch King, Rohan Knight, Gondor Knight, Easterling and Mordor Orc and Sauron with helmet) :D http://www.google.cz...art=269&ndsp=36 He was soo goood Maia Edited September 2, 2014 by Blazej_Holen Quote
