MAB Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 The bottom line is that we will never be happy or satisfied, and the entire LotR line will be incomplete without *at the very least* - The Balrog ... ALL fans have been asking for it since the line was announced! Could include a battle damaged Gandalf & a couple Moria Orc Archers - The Witch-King Showdown (with armored versions of Witch-King, Eowyn & Merry with a Fell Beast, maybe Gothmog) - A Minas Tirith or Osgiliath set (odds of getting both if any are slim) with Faramir, Madril (if Osgiliath), armored Pippin, Denethor, Gondor soldiers, could have Gothmog here, Haradrim soldier (most likely as no new mold is necessary), could include a Fell Beast/Ringwraith. - Treebeard Encounter with Merry, Pippin & Grishnakh ... no new molds necessary, only printing for Grishnakh. $25 set - easy win! - SAURON! I'd prefer brick built like GotG Groot or X-men Sentinel, but I'd take a mini figure. Would be perfect as a prologue set with Elendil & Isildur!!! Until at least that happens, the line shall be forever shamed and looked as as Lego's bane. Even with that there would still be complaints: Where is the Prancing Pony? Where is the Green Dragon and more Hobbits? Where are Smeagol and Deagol? : : : After the third Hobbit wave has come and gone it would be nice if Lego would at least let us fans know what is up with their Middle-Earth themes. I think that's the worst part, not knowing. Did poorer then expected sales lead to a quick end? Did the Hobbit movies changing and the term of the license agreement prevent a third LotR wave? Did the Lego Movie affect the timeline? Was there never even a third wave planned because anything Gondor would be seen as to similar to existing Castle? Knowing the reasoning behind everything might not fix the huge glaring hole Lego left, but it would at least help ease us and maybe help us understand why Lego seems to have made such a silly mistake leaving such a big hole in their LotR line. Lego will never release such commercially sensitive information. Quote
MAB Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 It just seemed like they were putting a lot of effort in to the theme. Like for every set they did a designer video, for all other themes they only do that for USC sets. That is simply not true. Most designer videos (at least the ones aimed at adults) are for non-UCS sets: Many modulars (Town Hall, Pet Shop, etc) Mini-modulars Camper van Maersk train Winter Village Post Office Even little SW models get the treatment (eg. 10215 Obi-wan's Jedi Starfighter) They do them for UCS sets, but not exclusively for UCS sets. There are also numerous designer videos aimed at kids for sets more aimed at kids ... http://www.lego.com/en-gb/videos/categories/designer-videos I agree wave 1 of LOTR got a whole load of designer videos aimed at adults (ie. not cartoony) - presumably they were trying to aim the range at adults back then. Now most of the videos for the Hobbit are much more cartoony, presumably aimed at kids instead. Quote

MAB Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 ^ It's a nice MOC, but would it sell? It contains the whole Fellowship (already done, so rehashed minifigs) and mainly grey bricks. Even if LOTR hadn't been done yet, why would they produce a set with the whole Fellowship in? It would kill sales of the other sets in the series. Quote
LegoThomas Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 I kinda hope maybe we get the "missing sets" when hobbit/lotr comes as a dvd/bluray package. Quote
MAB Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 I kinda hope maybe we get the "missing sets" when hobbit/lotr comes as a dvd/bluray package. Packages. No doubt there will be multiple theatrical and extended versions to milk the fans. :-) Quote

That would be great, but I highly doubt this will happen. Let's hope someone will produce good custom parts and we can create our own minifigs. Edited September 26, 2014 by Robert_88 Quote
Ql97 Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 At this point, anything we say, do, etc. in this thread is just beating a dead horse. Quote
Deathleech Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 (edited) Even with that there would still be complaints: Where is the Prancing Pony? Where is the Green Dragon and more Hobbits? Where are Smeagol and Deagol? People will always complain. Even if we got those sets you and atreyu listed I am sure people would complain we didn't get Edoras, Lothlorien, Barad-dur, Easterlings, Mt Doom, Mountain Trolls, etc. There are just too many locations and characters to cover everything unless Lego were to do half a dozen waves+. That's why they just need to hit the main scenes we are still missing. I think most sane people would be totally satisfied with a Witch King (on Fel Beast) vs Eowyn set, a set that includes Gondor Soldiers, and a Balrog. Anything after that would be icing on the cake. While the Prancing Pony and Green Dragon would be great, I don't think anyone would be too dissapointed if we never got them. Lego will never release such commercially sensitive information. I know, it would just be nice to know the reasoning though. It sucks being completely in the dark as to why our favorite line ended prematurely before some major scenes were covered. https://ideas.lego.com/projects/80650 This guy never cease to amaze me... That's pretty cool but dang, 800 pieces for a Watcher in the Water set? That means it would be in the $80-100 price range. I am not sure people would wanna dish out that much cash for a bunch of re-hashed characters and a relatively minor creature (at least compared to the rest like the Balrog, Fel Beast, etc.). I would think of a Watcher in the Water set more around the $20-30 price range. I can totally understand the brick count getting inflated though. My Grond, which I imagined as a $20 set, ended up having over 400 pieces and would of probably been closer to a $40-50 set. I can only imagine how the Lego designers constantly struggle to give us some bigger scenes while keeping the brick count and price lower. Edited September 26, 2014 by Deathleech Quote
TheLegoDr Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 I really need to just get on the ball and start MOCing some of these cool scenes. I have too many projects and official sets to ever get around to MOCing anything. Stupid LEGO! Quote
atreyu2112 Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 (edited) One of the designers from the Lego LotR/Hobbit design team is on facebook but I never asked him about new LotR sets. Why? Because I know he can't talk about it. You could PM him (so the conversation is private) and ask ... worst that will happen, he won't reply, or tell you that he can't comment. But, if Darth Draks was right and internally LotR is a really big deal, *maybe* they are trying to get something more released! Ideally, the best reply would be confirmation of 1 more large set or even a small wave of sets... While the Prancing Pony and Green Dragon would be great, I don't think anyone would be too disappointed if we never got them. Agreed. When it comes to LotR collecting, there are main characters, scenes and events that come to mind immediately, and then there's the fluff or icing on the cake stuff. *IF* we are lucky enough to get just the 2 sets Deathleech mentioned (a Balrog set and a Witch-King on Fell Beast vs Eowyn set w/Gondor soldiers), I wouldn't complain at all! Actually, I'd rejoice. Would I mind a Prancing Pony, Green Dragon, or a Smeagol Deagol set? HELL NO! But if I was to get those INSTEAD of a Balrog, WK/FB, Treebeard, Sauron, Eowyn, Faramir, Gondor soldier? Dude, I'd be RAGING pissed because that would just be a cold slap in the face! Just like Mouth of Sauron and the Pirate Ship Ambush are a slap in the face. The problem with all of the LotR sets on LEGO Ideas is that LEGO has already designed EVERYTHING we want in the Lego LotR video game. It's all there for us to see in glorious official Lego design. If it isn't in the likeness of the official movie/game, I doubt the license agreement would allow for Lego to make it anyway. Why wouldn't they use their own designs? They already paid to develop those designs. Besides, I don't really want a brick built Fell Beast. Easy enough to just use the Smaug mold with a new head & different tail/neck and paint it grey/black. (to the guys that complain they wouldn't want a Fell Beast the same size as Smaug due to scale, lol ... Lego Smaug is the one WAY out of scale if we're being *realistic*, but he IS the PERFECT scale for a Fell Beast). Smaug actually gives me REAL hope we WILL GET at least the Witch-King in armor & the Fell Beast in some sort of set. Smaug's body is already set up for a mounted rider, and the wings ... it's so strikingly similar to the Fell Beast that I'd be SHOCKED if they don't reuse it. It's a no-brainer win win ... Lego can further profit from the mold and give the fans at least one of the things we are still in desperate need of for this theme! Edited September 26, 2014 by atreyu2112 Quote
Dr.Cogg Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 Ever since I started collecting the Hobbit and the LotR sets, I kept hoping for a Sauron (The Main Villain of LotR),Witch King in Armor ( the Darth Vader of LotR) on a Fellbeast and the Balrog (The most Iconic and quoted scene from LotR). Ql97 Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 (edited) Four sets would cover everything I want from Lego LotR: 20$ Sauron Battle: Elendil, Isildur, Gil-Galad, and a Groot-like Sauron, possibly with a small rock. 40$ Witch-King Battle: Eoywn, Rohan Merry, Theoden, Witch-King, and a molded Fel-Beast, with a catapult or something. 60$ Balrog: The title character, with Gandalf, Sam, Boromir, two Moria Orcs, and a collapsable Bridge. 100$ Minas Tirith: The citadel and gate, with Faramir, Denathor, Gandalf the White, Gondor Pipin, two Gondor soldiers, Gothmog and two Mordor orcs. I think we have better chances of getting a Lego Infinity Blade theme, though. Edited September 27, 2014 by Ql97 Quote

Lego Smaug is the one WAY out of scale if we're being *realistic*, but he IS the PERFECT scale for a Fell Beast). Well the thing is all the other molded creatures have been dramatically shrunk down and are much smaller than minifigure scale. The eagles really aren't that much smaller than the Fel Beast, but Lego reduced the eagle size so much they would look absolutely ridiculous next to a Smaug sized Fel Beast. They would be like a third or a forth the size where in the movies they are maybe half the size at most, or like a third smaller than the Fel Beast. Quote
Alcarin Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 I can dig that BIG time! But add in a $30 Treebeard: title character, Merry, Pippin, Grishnakh & a small tree/foliage build. You have Treebeard already, just name it :) As for the rest (other 4) its ok, BUT 100$ Minas Tirith means Gates + Grond and nothing more.............. crap army building potential there, and if Gondor comes the least it has to be is a Uruk-hai army type of Battle pack......... or Id be severely disappointed with only raising my apetites for Gondor army and never having it due to costs........ Four sets would cover everything I want from Lego LotR:20$ Sauron Battle: Elendil, Isildur, Gil-Galad, and a Groot-like Sauron, possibly with a small rock. 100$ Mina's Tirith: The citadel and gate, with Faramir, Denathor, Gandalf the White, Gondor Pipin, two Gondor soldiers, Gothmog and two Mordor orcs. I would do it like that for Army building reasons and for reason Sauron is actually NEVER doing anything (except for the intro) you dont really need him unless youre doing the Elendil scene, Witch king is the main villan anyway........... on the field atleast................ 26.99$ ---------- Balrog + Gandalf + Boromir (we only got 1) (that was the cost of Dol Guldur Ambush in Europe more or less) 40$ ------------- Gondor battle pack addon for 120$ set with 4 Orcs and 1 gondor soldier (with shield and new helmet) and Faramir in Gondor Attire on Horse (Eomer 2) but keep same helmet (no ornaments) to make it generic out of it, with same torso etc....... 60(or 70$) ----- Witch King showdown with Fell Beast, Witch King, Eowyn, Merry and Theoden (and Snowmane) possibly add a rock or half dead Olifont or only the upper part of Olifont (a chance for Haradrim here or easterling with higher price point!) or can also add Gothmog... 120$ ------------ Minas Tirith Gates + Grond 8 figures ---> 2-3 orc archers/soldiers, Gothmog (if not in other set) maybe Troll (to push the Grond) Gondor archer, Gandalf the White, Pippin in Gondor attire(again keep same chest as Gondor soldier and same helmet, to make mroe army building potential), Denethor(optional) Now that would be a perfect wave for me, sure you exclude Sauron, but he is just a ghost in LOTR, if we exclude prologue that is past anyway.... he is the ring technically, and we got that........ We get Witch King, Eowyn, Both Hobbits in their attires, Gondor soldier army building potential, we possibly get Gothmog and Denethor, and we get Faramir (again with army building potential) and possibly an armored troll printing......... oh and we get badass Balrog and also Fell Beast, pretty much everything in 4 sets.........
