MKJoshA Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 Orthanc came out of nowhere. You never know. I think we will be surprised before the final Extended Edition blu-ray sets come out next November. I would love to be surprised, but it really will be a surprise if it happens. It seems pretty clear that Lego is done with LotR. Quote

The most telling thing that the line is not simply discontinued, but that the license will be coming to a close is that Elves theme. I think if they were keeping the Tolkien in effect they would use a different name. Maybe Faeries or such. Quote
sahidko Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Brotherhood Workshop wrote on facebook "This month marks the release of the final Middle Earth sets Very sad about that, but it's been a very good run..." This is one of the saddest news i have read lately. :( What a wasted opportunity... Quote
Robert_88 Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 I love Lego, but they failed this time! Quote

What a huge shame. It's been a good run, but without Gondor it's hard to call it a "very good run". Quote
sahidko Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 I love Lego, but they failed this time! True, time to buy everything you are missing. Don't want to imagine the price of e.g. Uruks in few months. Quote
cullmancreations Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 The Uruk Hai army is already double reatail price now. Im not entirely sure which sets are the best investment if you want to sell them in the future. does anyone have a good idea from either the Hobbit and LOTR line which sets are the best investment to sell in the future. BlueberryWaffles Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Bye, LOTR...you were awesome.... At least Funko might be making a LOTR Pop line. (they've already shown a Sauron.) Quote
TheRedViper Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Bye, LOTR...you were awesome.... At least Funko might be making a LOTR Pop line. (they've already shown a Sauron.) The Sauron Funko does look really cool, it would be great if they made more! (Sorry to get off topic) Quote
atreyu2112 Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 (edited) EPIC FAILURE if LotR is indeed done. The Lord of the Rings theme will NEVER be complete without the Balrog, a real Treebeard & something from Gondor with Witch-King, Fell Beast, Eowyn, Faramir & Gondor soldiers!!! Had it been the ENTIRE wave 2 that had been left out, I don't think anyone would be complaining. But to leave out all that main stuff? REALLY??? Lego dropped the ball BIG TIME! *edit* LOL... just think, if this was Star Wars then we'd NOT have gotten: -Darth Vader (Witch-King) -Emperor (Sauron) -Darth Vader TIE Fighter (Fell Beast) -AT-AT (Balrog) -Wampa (Treebeard) And then for Return of the Jedi we'd NOT have gotten: -Leia (Eowyn) -Lando (Faramir) -Boba Fett (Gothmog) -Rebel Soldiers (Gondor Soldeirs) -Biker Scouts (either Haradrim or Easterlings) -Ewok Village (Minas Tirith/Pelennor) -Battle Of Endor (Osgiliath) But we DID get: -Royal Guard (Mouth of Sauron) -Mon Calamari Cruiser (Pirate Ship) -Death Star complete w/Emperors Throne Room (Orthanc) *AND* Emperors Throne (Wizard Battle) -Abominable Snowman (Ent) -Lars Homestead (Rivendell) Edited October 4, 2014 by atreyu2112 Quote
wesker Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Disapointing its over but not surprising. It really begs the question what were they thinking with that second wave giving us a bunch of sets not many people asked for. Whats sad is that Lego isn't the first company to prematurely end a Middle Earth line either. Quote
SirBlake Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 This is probably going to begin a mini dark ages for me, at least as far as retail goes. I may pick up an occasional CMF, but after the last of the middle earth sets and no castle on the horizon, there's just nothing left that I'm interested in. Quote

So it's finally official? I thought I'd be happy when we got an official announcement, just to know for sure... I'm not happy. I know I sometimes come off as... Hm, a bit on the negative side of this. I realize that sometimes I talk like I don't care that this theme is dead, or how I try to be optimistic and all... I know it may seem like I don't care... Well, frankly... I do care. I am going to miss this line. I remember back in 2012, seeing that early picture of the fellowship, and going to class to tell one of my friends about it, how happy we were that it was coming... I guess I never I thought about it ending... I mean, who would? Well now its gone. And it won't ever come back. I mean, yeah, I'm glad we got everything we did, and I'm not too burned by what we didn't, but... I mean, now it's over... It's just over. Five years of "it'll never happen" but "it would be perfect" and "Well, I'll just make my own custom fellowship" and now it's just... done. That's it. It's over. Well, there are still enough gaps that we can still discuss filling those, and we can still make customs and build stuff and discuss why it should come back... But it won't be the same... I really don't know what I'm saying... Well, it was a good run. It had its ups and downs, but I think overall it will go down in history in a positive way. Well, that's all folks. Quote
The_Chosen_1 Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 Extremely disappointed, but not surprised, to hear this. Once upon a time, news of Lego LOTR had me over the moon with excitement. So many possibilities left unfulfilled. *sigh* Quote
Shroffy123 Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 Blame yourselves for complaining about set designs and not buying multiples to sustain continued waves Quote
Galactic13 Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 You never know what you have till it's gone. Do you guys think that the Tolkien Estate will ever sell the film rights to the Simerilen? Quote

Thats not official enough tbh...... did they say its official said by LEGO rep? Or is that just their 99% prediction? Quote
sahidko Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 Blame yourselves for complaining about set designs and not buying multiples to sustain continued waves Don't think so, at least in the near future. From what i've read Christopher Tolkien isn't a huge fan of LOTR (and probably even less of Hobbit). Quote
Sir_Basil_Ashton Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 Blame yourselves for complaining about set designs and not buying multiples to sustain continued waves Buy multiples of sets just to sustain continued waves? I don't think so. Quote

My new dark age will come with the end of lotr/hobbit wave. hovewer, i will try to create other moc in middle earth. Quote
Borador Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 You never know what you have till it's gone. Do you guys think that the Tolkien Estate will ever sell the film rights to the Simerilen? It's one in a million. Christopher doesn't like the movies (or rather, he doesn't approve of them as adaptations. I don't know if he likes them or not). He'd never sell the rights to any other books. It's only one in a million because there's always that one chance that maybe one of the little kids in the family loves the movies and wants to see their favorite book (that isn't LOTR or the Hobbit) made into a film. That might be enough to sway Chris towards selling the rights, but eh, I really doubt it... That's too many different things that need to happen... I mean, it just isn't likely... But I won't rule it out. It could happen... Remember what Journey told you not to stop doing... Quote
A Hobbit Fellow Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Welp, we enjoyed the line while it lasted. I still need to pick up The Helm's Deep because I've seen some halfway decent prices on it (as in not $300) and I've already got the Uruk Hai Army. I enjoy my little collection and I'm disappointed to see the line end but now I'm determined to build an Oliphant moc since Lego won't make another wave. It is what it is, there's not much we can do. It was a great line and I'm glad Lego made the first wave, much less the second. Quote
Darth Malgus Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 In Star Wars parlance "move along..." this line's been on life support for 12 months the second wave killed it. Quote
atreyu2112 Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 (edited) I emailed Darth Draks last week... atreyu2112, on 25 September 2014 - 11:28 AM, said: Hey, any chance you might have any further information or leads on future Lord of the Rings sets? Even if it is one larger set, a LOT of people would be very happy. Thanks! Darth Draks, on 05 October 2014 - 08:46 PM, said: I recently had a conversation with a LEGO rep (i'm in the business) and I mentioned the Orthanc set coming to Aus and he said it won't be coming this year, he went on to say that he couldn't discuss future LOTR sets... I took that to mean that there would be new ones coming next year as if the line was finished he would of said so. I STILL have a feeling, personally, that we will get either one more larger set or a small wave of sets. I am optimistic. I could be wrong, sure... but I hope I'm not. Cheers!
