MAB Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Official confirmation that it is not three beard. Dr Who will probably be big competition for the next ideas round. Quote
wesker Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Really happy to see Minas Tirith reach 10,000 supporters. If Lothlorien can keep the momentum going and stay on the frontpage hopefully it can do the same. Shame Edoras isn't doing as well. It could use a "Staff Pick" to gain some much needed attention. SirBlake Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 (edited) It's exciting to see Minas Tirith reach its goal. As far as treebeard goes, while I'm not personally clamoring for an official set, I can say that to my eyes, the Orthanc ent looks nothing like him (aside from being a tree shepherd). bachamn Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 (edited) So far, it is up against the Avengers Helicarrier, pfft, who needs a LEGO Helicarrier? DARPA is already on that... They also told me that the ent in set 10237 is not supposed to be Three Breard, just a regular ent fighting off the awful Orcs and Uruk-hai. Official confirmation that it is not three beard. How is it possible that two people in a row made this typo? "Three Beard"? bahahahaha Edited November 22, 2014 by bachamn Quote
deskp Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 Dr Who will probably be big competition for the next ideas round. I think they will decline doctor who 'ideas' set. because they alreayd have doctor who theme planned, but they are not allowed to say till 2015. Quote
KristofBD Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 Great to see Minas Tirith made it, now let's hope Lothlorien does the same and may be... who knows! Quote
Dustin Boyd Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 Hey guys. This is my first post here. I have supported most of the LotR sets for Ideas and at the very least I hope it shows Lego that there is still some demand for this line. Plus I would love a "Threebeard" set as well. lol Quote

Srbandrews Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 My assumption regarding Doctor Who was that there must be some kinds of rights conflict to deal with as Character Building already makes a line of official Doctor Who products. Doesn't Three-beard make a cameo in the Mos Eisley cantina? Quote
Deathleech Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 Official confirmation that it is not three beard. Ehh, I am not sure we can really call that an official confirmation considering how little the reps generally know? Just look at when we asked them about the future of the LotR line and the replies that were all over the place. Of course this is a bit different since the set was already released and I know she (he?) claims they sent it to the product specialist, but why would they give an answer? It's better to keep people guessing. If it IS suppose to be Treebeard, it can make the set more appealing to some who might not otherwise find it that interesting. If it's just a generic ent, then it leaves the possibility of a Treebeard in the future and getting multiples of Orthanc is more appealing. The fact the rep butchered Treebeards name and called him "Three beard" makes me all the more skeptical. Quote

atreyu2112 Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 Thank you Risgyrnsgrot. Lego agrees with me... it's not Treebeard! Will the real Treebeard please stand up? OH HELL YES 10k!!! Well done everyone. Quote
Brick Wizard001 Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 I really hope they take this chance to make one more/last wave for LotR. My wish list is: 1. Mount Doom 15$ With weary Frodo, Sam and Gollum. Little piece of mountain. 2. Prologue 35$ With Isildur, Sauron, Elf soldier, Man soldier and 3 Orcs. It would include some rocks and battle elements. 3. Osgiliath 60$ With Faramir, 1 Ranger, 2 Gondor soldiers and 4 New Mordor orcs. Would look a lot like the one on LEGO Ideas 4. Gondor 200-250$ With Denethor, Gandalf, Shadowfax, Marry, Pippin, 2 Gondor soldiers, Eowyn, Withcking, Gothmog, 3 Mordor orcs. It would include Minas Tirith and grond. Quote
Sir_Basil_Ashton Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 (edited) If the Ent was really Treebeard, the set would have been marketed as such. LEGO wouldnot have missed that marketing opportunity. Edited November 23, 2014 by Sir_Basil_Ashton Quote

I'm hoping for the same too... one last wave. My wish list would be: 1. Prologue $15 Sauron, Elendil, Isildur, a small rock structure 2. Treebeard $25 Brick built Treebeard, Merry, Pippin, Grishnakh 3. Bridge of Khazad Dum $40 Brick build Balrog, damaged Gandalf, 2x Moria Orc archers & the bridge 4. The Osgiliath above, Gothmog could be here. 5. The Ideas Minas Tirith Quote

Or they planned another wave which means that the Orthanc wasn't meant to be the final set (like some people assumed). Quote

Bugbot2008 Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 I'm on the side that the ent in the orthanc set is not treebeard, if you think it makes an acceptable treebeard then good for you but to me he looks as much like treebeard as the MOS looks like the witch king or Orthanc looks like Barad Bur... Iv actually almost finished making my own version inspired by the videogame and I' ll post it here soon :) For me this thread is a bit of a zombie however since we have one or more strong standing lotr projects on Ideas and lego still has the lisance then there is still a chance for future official lotr products therefore there is something to talk about. And because everyone else has...My wish list for a hyperthetical wave 3 is: £12: Osgiliath ambush (battle pack): Gondor soldier, gondor ranger, mordor orc x2 £40: The Balrog: Gandalf, moria orc archer etc £80: Battle of Pelennor fields; witch king on molded fell beast, Eowyn, Merry, brick built mumakil with driver and 2 archers, Theoden on snowmane £100: Battle of osgiliath: Faramir, gondor rangers, Gothmog, mordor orcs, Frodo, Sam and Gollum, fell beast and ringwraith, Orc landing boat. Online exclusive: ~£200 Minas Tirith, GTW, Denethor, Pippin, shadowfax, gondor soldiers, guards etc, mordor orcs with a catapult. Quote
Faefrost Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 My assumption regarding Doctor Who was that there must be some kinds of rights conflict to deal with as Character Building already makes a line of official Doctor Who products. Doesn't Three-beard make a cameo in the Mos Eisley cantina? While drifting slightly off topic. Character Builder lost the Dr. Who license. That was when we were allowed to post Dr. Who Ideas projects again. Similarly when Hasbro's Jurrasic Park license fell through or ended quietly we could suddenly put up JP ideas again. Now as I have said before LotR faces some real challenges in review. - it is for a pre-existing license. This means an internal Lego licensing and development group already has primary ownership of it. The licensor is already expecting all subjects without third party royalties, etc. it's just much much more complex. - the pre-existing license may not have much time left in its contract. So to release a set would probably require extending the contract. Another level of cost and compLexity not apparent to us. - the internal business group has already looked at the business case for the entire line and opted against more. Now granted the business case is not the same for a full retail wave as it is for a D2C limited run exclusive, but it is still a strike against it that other review sets will not have. - it is a very large set, in an area that what sales data they have might not work in our favor. Be honest with ourselves, how well does Orthanc seem to sell vs other D2C sets? Show of hands how many waited until Helms Deep was on deep clearance before pulling the trigger? See the problem? I really hope this one gets made. I hope they have enough time on the license and they think this would be a nice unexpected finale. Granted it's probably just a fools hope. Quote

Alcarin Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Yes, I know. I also know the Lego customer rep confirmed it was not three beard. Reps know nothing..... besides OBVIOUSLY noone will confirm it because then it loses the army building appeal..... Now you can decide what it is, for oyu it can be treebeard, for me it can be a normal ENT thats attacking Isengard.... and thus I can buy more and make an army, which I would less likely do if it would be written Treebeard on the box.... see the psychology.... it is Treebeared and its not, whatever YOU want it, it is. Quote
SMC Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 ^ And just how many people in the whole world do you think there are that have more than one ent from Orthanc. I think Lego just left themselves room to make a Treebeard set if they wanted to just like they saved some good sets from wave 3 only then to say no lets just stop . Quote

I can't believe this is still causing confusion. MAB was, I believe, making the joke that all the email was confirming was that the Orthanc ent is not 'Three Beard', which we mostly all knew because 'Three Beard' is not the name of any character from the films or books.
