MAB Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 I can't believe this is still causing confusion. MAB was, I believe, making the joke that all the email was confirming was that the Orthanc ent is not 'Three Beard', which we mostly all knew because 'Three Beard' is not the name of any character from the films or books. At least someone understands :-) Quote
coolguy2323 Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 If the Ent was really Treebeard, the set would have been marketed as such. LEGO wouldnot have missed that marketing opportunity. My question is, why not just include Treebeard instead of a normal Ent anyway? Quote
Blakstone Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 (edited) ... I think Lego just left themselves room to make a Treebeard set if they wanted to just like they saved some good sets from wave 3 only then to say no lets just stop . Srbandrews, I agree with SMC. LEGO was just leaving the door open to a third wave when they did that. There are at least 80 pages where most the posters agree that LEGO had planned for a wave following the Orthanc. But with the lack of ads for a third wave and that the 2015 retailers catalog doesnt mention it, most of us agree that LEGO changed their minds. At least LEGO has to have internal discussions about Lord of the Rings again since the Minas Tirith set reached 10,000 supporters. It would be excellent if the Lothloren set was considered in the same IDEAS review period. Edited November 24, 2014 by Blakstone Quote
LegoFish Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 That would be great; 2 lotr ideas sets being reviewed at same time would mean lego can in no way deny there's heavy demand for more from this line. Knowing lego and lotr though theyd then make lothlorien with only celeborn as a new fig instead of minas tirith with gondor soldiers, denethor, gothmog etc :P Quote

Right, but regardless of his joke it still begs the question if the rep was kidding around or not. Was their misspelling unintentional? I e-mailed Lego myself just a bit ago to see if I get the same sort of response or it's something way different. Quote
Bugbot2008 Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 If you don't mind me dropping in on the Treebeard discussion one last time ... I just uploaded my MOC, I will likely make comparison pictures with the official Ent at the weekend. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=102747 Quote
SMC Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 ^ That does look a lot more like Treebeard. Quote
atreyu2112 Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 My question is, why not just include Treebeard instead of a normal Ent anyway? That's a question a LOT of us asked when the set was revealed, fueling a fire that there would definitely be a third wave and a Treebeard set would be in it. A Treebeard set is at least one set we KNOW was ready to go for a wave 3, or else he would have been in Orthanc. It also ties in better with the video game since there was a level where you had the choice of being Treebeard or the other ent. I'm fairly certain the set designers worked hand-in-hand with the game designers, so I'm pretty sure that if we actually got (or will get) sets based on Treebeard, the Balrog, etc... that they will look very close to the game designs. PS - Bugbot - great work!!! Quote

SheepEater Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 https://ideas.lego.com/projects/36275 Congratulations on 10,000 supporters, NujuMetru! Nov 25, 2014 Dear NujuMetru, What a beautiful, playable version of the White City in LEGO bricks! You've done a great job compressing this model into a reasonable size while staying true to it's look in The Return of the King. Now that 10,000 Gondorians have spoken, we advance your project to the Review phase. Quote
SirBlake Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 That is seriously cool. What a wonderful reply from Lego. Quote

Treebeared is far less interesting and recognizable than Balrog is for example... The fact its not written down is the fact it can be what YOU want it to be. thats it.... but everyone has a right to dream afterall so dream away :P Treebeared is a walking tree, thats it, oh and he taks slowly aswell.... a couple of Fire arrows and no water = burned ''dead'' Tree Quote

Are you putting it on Ideas? Thanks! I'll try to make some better photos and if I'm happy with them then I will :) I would have a go at the Balrog in the future like others have done already but without these bricks in trans orange I don't think I would be satisfied with it, for this reason if given the choice I would rather lego make a Balrog set themselves than treebeard... Dragonlego27 Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Same, not only as the Balrog way more iconic, cooler and ancient, it would also destroy Treebeard in about two seconds flat. It's also a chance to get some more Moria Orcs as well. That's not to say I would only get the Balrog if both sets were released. Quote
LegoFish Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 It says on brickipedia's 2015 page hobbit and lotr lines are to be discontinued. Is this fact or whoever wrote it's opinion? Quote
Blakstone Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 LegoFish, I think that is a deduction from the info that we have. I don't we will ever get official confirmation. Brotherhood Workshop has some connections within LEGO and they say it is over. I think if something was in the pipe, we would have heard something. But there is one Lord of the Rings set that is going to be reviewed by LEGO for the IDEAS project. If nothing else that will force a new conversation about the line. Perhaps we can ever get Lothloren to 10K supporters in enough time to be reviewed side by side. Quote
atreyu2112 Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 Speaking of a Balrog... this Ideas one could use some more support ~ https://ideas.lego.com/projects/70624 Quote

bachamn Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 Balrog...would also destroy Treebeard in about two seconds flat. not trying to start a nerd debate here, but I don't agree with that. A Balrog would probably win in the end, yeah, but Treebeard is massively old and powerful; doubt he'd cave instantly. Quote

And I'm gonna end this debate right here - Treebeard doesn't stand even the slighest chance. Not only does the Balrog have the elemental upper hand since he is fire, he's also on a completely different powerlevel being a Maiar. Don't try to debate how Treebeard would win since it would never, ever happen. Quote
