BrickSev Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 Source? I remember I read it on "Brickipedia". I once run, just by chance, into their 2015 page and I read LOTR and The Hobbit under a "themes discontinued" paragraph Here the link: http://lego.wikia.com/wiki/2015 I didn't read anything else, so perhaps those info are not accurate. Hopefully Quote
SirBlake Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 Yeah, while that is very possible, I don't think we can count on a wiki entry for accurate, official facts. Quote
BrickSev Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 Yeah, while that is very possible, I don't think we can count on a wiki entry for accurate, official facts. I'll very happy if those info are not accurate, since I'd really love more sets. Anyway, I guess we don't have other info on the matter (that's the reason I asked: to see if there were other more reliable sources about that matter ) which should make us think the theme is not going to be discontinued soon Quote
SheepEater Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 The original Ghostbusters idea was actually not just the car but included their whole HQ as a modular. Lego deemed it to big, but that didn't stop them from approving it anyway and producing the set (car + figs) we got. So maybe if Lego deems nujumetru's Minas Tirith idea too big, they might produce a uruk-hai army-type set (minas tirith gate?) or slightly larger sized set that provides us with the figs we badly want. Witch King (Gondor Siege version of course), Eowyn, Faramir, Gondor Soldiers. Hopefully with Fell beast. Deathleech's LDD mocs comes to mind. Quote
Dustin Boyd Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 I certainly don't post here everyday but I do come here almost everyday to read what people are saying and in hopes to hear some new info about future LoTR sets. So in that regard please keep this thread open. I am not an expert on Lego by any means but the LoTR sets seem to be the same as most Lego lines. While their are some great features to the LoTR lineup such as the detail on the Minifigs, there is some poor choices like certain sets. This is true for all lines but is really exemplified in the LoTR lineup due to it being so small. The reality is even if there is another wave it will be a mixed bunch at best as well. That being said I really hope they do another wave as overall I have been pretty happy with the lineuo. Quote
The-Nexu Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 I believe that while there's life, there's hope. Until TLG oficialy anounces that it has been discontinued we can hope. It is possabol that Lego is putting this theam on hold for the new Pirates theme or they are trying some new wierd marketing skeem that involves making us waight. Although, the fate of the harry Potter line does make me nervus about this theme. Quote
atreyu2112 Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 Looking through the January-June catalog, it seems Lego is doing away with a LOT of the licenses. Only Star Wars & Super Heroes (Marvel/DC). No new Hobbit or LotR (expected), and no new TMNT . . . it looks like I'll be going back into my dark age. I'm still hoping to get the few more sets I really want, but I know it's only a fools hope. If there will be more Lord of the Rings, Hobbit or Middle Earth sets, I will buy them. Surprisingly, NO sales or real deals for the holiday season this year on Hobbit OR LotR sets! I figured TRU would want to clearance them out, especially older sets like the Pirate Ship Ambush, Black Gate, etc... I wanted to get a few extras just to have. . . Quote

Oh so those rumors were correct :( That's very sad. I really love Star Wars theme and I'm a huge Sci-Fi fan but I believe variety is what makes a hobby interesting. I mean, it's something I do to relax, so sometimes I want to build a starship other times a fantasy castle. LOTR and The Hobbit are currently the two best themes for fantasy/medieval settings. The castle theme (which it seems is not going to get more sets soon) is not comparable with them. At least I'm glad I have my Orthanc Quote
Zilcho Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 I think it'd be good if we at least got another fantasy theme so we could get some more orcs to make our Sauron's armies a bit more diverse Quote
SirBlake Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 It's with that in mind that I lament that the elves theme ended up being a minidoll theme. There's a ton of potential in a non-licensed fantasy elf theme. Just look to the often mentioned Boudon designs. http://thebrickblogger.com/2013/07/lego-minifigs-by-alexandre-boudon/ Quote
Aura Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 Perhaps they might release a final set later in the new year? Quote

I cannot recall them ever officially announcing the end of a line. The only thing close is theme officially announcing that they would not renew the Shell contract. Didn't we recieve information that Lego were having problems with the length of their Harry Potter license due to the final film being split into two, meaning we knew when it was going to end? Quote
Darth Punk Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 I don't believe we knew ahead of time about Harry Potter ending. They made a statement saying it had ended and the last wave did not see its usual cycle length due to an additional movie. That is very unusual for TLG to do and I think they even said they don't usually make an announcement but only did so due to the popularity of the theme. I doubt we will ever hear such an announcement regarding middle earth and fully expect the theme to end this summer. As that would be the two year mark for Orthanc. Those waiting for such an announcement are going to be very disappointed when the theme suddenly vanishes. The only indication that might be remotely available is the new Elves theme. Quote
HawkLord Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Lego just has so much lined up for next year and beyond with Star Wars and marvel. These days movies/IPs don't feel like they've made it till they get a Lego set. With marvel planned out till like 2052, how could Lego have time for an ending movie IP like LOTR...? Quote
Mazin Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 ... and they still have to release thousands of new Ninjago and Chima bull-sets so that takes a lot of hands needed Quote
The-Nexu Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 The fact that TLG never anounces the end of a theme is what makes me nervous. It seems that middle earth is fading away. However, I can imagine the Elves theam coming in useful when mocing up places that TLG DIDN'T SO i guess that it isn't that bad if it goes away. This is Lego, after all. If TLG can't be bothered, then you can be! That could make a good catchphrase. Quote
Mazin Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 I wouldn't call Elves "Lego". Can't stand these dolls. Can't understand why couldn't they release Friends with normal minifigures. Without those new ones they would like just as new Paradisa Quote

Without those new ones they would like just as new Paradisa I agree with you. I wouldn't call those "Elves" Lego too. They are a completely different product. Like you said with normal Minifigures things would have been different but those "dolls figures" are clearly useless to us AOFL. A "holiday/tropical island" etc theme with the usual Minifigures/bricks could have some utility, like a different version of city. You may like it or not but it would have more potential Quote
BrickSev Posted December 25, 2014 Posted December 25, 2014 Read where ? Do you mean where the info on the "future of LOTR/The Hobbit" them has been read? Quote
Black Numenorean Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 Yes, sorry, That i wanted to say Quote
BrickSev Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 Yes, sorry, That i wanted to say No problem The first time I read about that it was on a brickipedia article, then, if I'm not mistaken, someone reported neither LOTR nor The Hobbit themes are in the next Lego catalogue; suggesting those themes are about to be discontinued. Personally I really hope Lego will continue to produce some fantasy theme; I mean "real" Lego theme not those "doll figures" elves we heard about Quote

Me too. I never give up hope but since they disappeared from the new catalogue I guess they will be retiring this year. Anyway until we find them on the shelves, we can still acquire few more sets Quote
