Dr.Cogg Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 If your collecting LotR make sure to get the Tower of Orthanc before it gets discontinued, because, I'm sure the price on that set will go up quite a bit. Quote
atreyu2112 Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 http://www.thebrickfan.com/the-future-of-lego-star-wars-theme-very-secure/ Interesting... "Continuing with the interview, Knudstorp also talks about licensed themes. He notes that LEGO doesn’t want every movie to become a theme but they do like “stories that have longevity” such as LEGO The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, Star Wars, and Harry Potter." So where are some more LotR sets there Knudstorp buddy...? Quote
Blakstone Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Since he mentions it along with Harry Potter, we can see that he is talking about current and past themes. Quote

There's a lego shop nearby that got some of the LotR sets like shelob attack, mines of moria, battle at the black gate, wizard battle, pirate ship ambush, council of elrond and most of the hobbit sets. They also got the tower of orthanc for 199,95 euro's. Might pay a visit soon :P Quote
Robert_88 Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Too bad that LotR obviously didn't have this longevity for Lego! Quote

So where are some more LotR sets there Knudstorp buddy...? I assume he means multiple films in the franchise, which means multiple waves of sets that LEGO can produce. LOTR/Hobbit has provided lego with that - there have been five waves of sets. It doesn't mean they will go on forever in people's minds, and hence in LEGO sales. Edited February 13, 2015 by MAB Quote
SMC Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 The sad thing is 6 films 5 waves, we are missing a wave for LOTR that if it was good would have completed the line maybe not perfectly but without the big whole we have now. Quote
MAB Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 (edited) The sad thing is 6 films 5 waves, we are missing a wave for LOTR that if it was good would have completed the line maybe not perfectly but without the big whole we have now. Although for LOTR (and the Hobbit) the films did not map onto the waves. I make it that we got 6 Fellowship, 3 Two Towers, 3 ROTK sets. Or 5:4:3 - it depends how you count some of the sets that could be either. Of the 6 Fellowship ones, 3 are small - Gandalf Arrives, Wizard Battle, Council of Elrond. So there is roughly even distribution over the films, possibly slightly less for ROTK. But it was clearly not Wave 1 - Fellowship, Wave 2 - TT, Wave 3 (missing) - ROTK. Of course for the Hobbit, it made more sense to release them in film order as it is a current series, just that some of them had to be preview sets after the change in movie structure. SMC Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 ^ We know just saying that 1 more wave would have not coved everything but lets face it would have given us something Gondor related. Quote

Maybe, maybe not. They may have found some more interesting scenes in the extended editions of FOTR and TT to recreate. :-) Edited February 13, 2015 by MAB Quote
nymmerod Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Maybe, maybe not. They may have found some more interesting scenes in the extended editions of FOTR and TT to recreate. :-) Totally... I can see it now... a massive brick-built Old Man Willow with Merry and Pippin and their ent-draughts. (but no Treebeard, just some unnamed ent) Quote
Dr.Cogg Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 I could just see a third way, like this: #1 $14.99 Dead Marshes: includes a little piece of swamp, Gollum, Frodo, skeleton and Sam. #2 $29.99 Witch King Attack: includes Molded Fell Beast, Armored Witch King, disguised Eowyn, Pippin and some weapons. #3 $39.99 Gandalf VS. Balrog: includes brick built Balrog, Gandalf, Frodo, Moria Orc, some rocks and weapons. #4 $49.99 Battle of Amon Hen: includes Lurtz, 2 Uruk Hai, Boromir, Frodo, Aragorn, and Amon Hen build. #5 $89.99 Battle of Pelennor fields: includes brick built Oliphant, Legolas, Haradrim chef, 2 Haradrim warrior, 2 horse, 1 rohirrim, Gimli, some weapons and a piece Pelennor field. atreyu2112 Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 (edited) I would buy all of those sets Dr. Cogg. But you don't have any Gondor Soldiers... And we need a $29.99 Treebeard set (: Edited February 13, 2015 by atreyu2112 Quote

I don't think it was a matter of good or bad. Remember when they signed the license and planned out how many waves over its life span there were only supposed to be 5 movies total. Lego didn't discover the sixth movie until they had wave 1 Hobbit sets on shelves who's corresponding scenes and characters had been pushed back to movie 2. Without reworking the contract they likely simply flipped the LotR wave three to a Hobbit wave three in Oder to capitalize on the current in theaters movie. A valid choice as sets with a concurrent movie always sell better. Quote

Dr.Cogg Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 The reason I didn't add Gondor soldiers, was to show that you could have an entire 3rd way without gondor soldiers. Quote
SirBlake Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 The reason I didn't add Gondor soldiers, was to show that you could have an entire 3rd way without gondor soldiers. Not a satisfactory third wave. Quote
atreyu2112 Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 So how about this: #1. $19.99 Treebeard - includes brick built Treebeard, Merry, Pippin, Grishnakh #2. $29.99 Witch-king Attack - includes molded Fell Beast, armored Witch-King, Eowyn & Merry, Rohirrim soldier & modular MT wall build #3. $39.99 The Balrog - includes brick built Balrog, damaged Gandalf, 2 Moria Orc Archers, small breaking bridge build #4. $49.99 Amon Hen - includes Lurtz, 2 Uruk Hai (1 new helmet) Aragorn, Frodo, Sam, Boromir, Amon Hen build, boat #5. $89.99 Gate of Minas Tirith - includes Faramir, 2 Gondor soldiers, Battle Troll, Gothmog, 2 armored Orcs, Minas Tirith Gate build (WKA wall can attach to each side), small brick built Grond, field catapult & wall catapult Quote
Risgrynsgrot Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Remove treebeard (We don't need that) instead have a set similar to Witch King Battle but a Battle of Last Alliance with Sauron, Isildur and Gil Galad or something like that. Quote
