Blakstone Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 Hmm... another line with Dimensions support is rumored for a Direct to Consumer (D2C) set in January: Ghostbusters Fire House. The number of licenses that are getting a D2C is expanding to the point that a second Lord of the Rings D2C might be possible. When we do normally know what all the D2C sets there are in a year? Holy crepes! Hope is kindled (yet again) That's definitely some food for thought, and I'm all of a sudden feeling optimistic once more. If there is a D2C set, I would bet heavily on Minas Tirith. It's easily and obviously the most-wished for set in the theme. Who knows, maybe this is all part of some master plan devised way back at the beginning of the license; I'm sure TLG would have been working on Dimensions back in 2012. Quote

That's exactly what I thought when I heard the news about the Ghostbusters Fire House There are alredy three LotR projects with 10000 supporters (Rivendell counts as well). Dimensions gives them the opportunity to release new minifigs and it creates a lot of awareness for Middle Earth and its characters and locations. I can understand that another whole wave might not be interesting for TLG but they have to give us more than those three (lame) Dimensions sets Edited September 19, 2015 by Robert_88 Quote
HawkLord Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 Picked up the Dimensions Gimli. It's the basic Gimli minifigure with a nice little axe cart build. Very Gimli appropriate. Haven't tried the LOTR level yet, but I'm optimistic. The disk for the Gimli has some nice rune printing, so that's something. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 It is interesting how they think there is a market for a giant 4000 piece/$350 Ghostbuster's HQ, yet no interest for a similar scaled Minas Tirith??? Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the HQ will be impressive, but it seems odd to me. Quote

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the HQ will be impressive, but it seems odd to me. Yeah, I'm thankful that Lego did any middle earth sets, and five waves were mostly great. But Ghostbusters getting one of the biggest exclusives of all time when Lego seemingly hasn't had the confidence to do a D2C Minas Tirith is mind boggling. I'm planning on being able to sweep up the dimensions packs when they go on a decent sale, and there is hope for more character or level packs. I don't even think another exclusive is out of the question, especially considering the nice run the Simpsons are having in the brick. It's especially nice how vocal fans are being, if there are multiple middle earth ideas projects being considered every review sooner or later a set will pass (hopefully its able to meet expectations). HawkLord Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 I was just reading that Bridge Direct lost the license to make Hobbit action figures around the time of the last movie. I wonder if that's also when Lego lost it, given that the Bridge Direct and Hobbit/LOTR stuff dropped at the same time in 2012. Quote

TheWorldAhead Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 According to numerous sources, it is implied that LEGO Dimensions will remain compatible and not outmoded at least until 2018. Here's a sample article below: http://www.ibtimes.com/lego-dimensions-will-get-3-years-worth-add-support-2116061 I take this to mean that the current Starter Set will be available until then, after which a new one might be implemented. The LEGO LOTR fan and conspiracy theorist in me takes this to mean that the LOTR license for Dimensions might be expiring in three years, which would prompt TT Games to make a non-Gandalf Starter Set. Any thoughts? Quote
HawkLord Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 I think Gandalf could be the most likely to be swapped out. Batman and Wildstyle both have movies coming out during the next three years, so it would make sense to keep them. The thing with Gandalf would be replacing him with another character that would have the same powers (magical, ranged), so that nothing else in the core game is lost or unplayable. I think it would also have to be another licensed character to showcase that Dimensions is loaded with licenses. Quote
x105Black Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 Could be replacing Gandalf, but if the other characters have movies it could just be replacing them with new versions. If that is so, it might just be a new Gandalf, maybe without the hat or Gandalf the White. Quote
SerenityInFire Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 I just want figs of Sauron and the Witch King. Quote

greenalfonzo Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 If they did a gondor soldier w/new helmet mold and white tree printed armor/torso & shield, I would army build it. Expensive way to build an army, but worth it. Quote

Yeah, if they release Sauron I'll commit to getting a few Dimension packs, but if they release soldiers of Gondor (or more Riders of the Mark for that matter) in anything I'm stocking up big time. KristofBD Posted October 4, 2015 Posted October 4, 2015 Well it is good to see that there is a new sub-page for lego Lord of the Rings. I just ordered all three fun packs. Mainly symbolically to show that there is an interest in the theme. I'll see if I can post comparison pics of the faces. Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 (edited) I haven't been following this thread too closely after the demise of the Middle-Earth themes, so I don't know whether this has been adressed before, but here it is: the Dimensions version of Gimli has two new face prints, as many have speculated (myself included): left: 2012/2013 LOTR version, right: 2015 Dimensions version The torso prints are identical though Edited October 5, 2015 by Lego-Freak Quote
Dr.Cogg Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 I still think TLG should release a Chess set for us LotR fans and all the new molds could come from Dimensions. Quote
KristofBD Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 Thanks LEGO-Freak! Especially the alternate (distressed) face is actually quite cool and different. Shame about the torso, but hey at least something is different. Quote
Ql97 Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 Two team packs and three level/fun packs would fill the biggest missing characters: Eowyn and Faramir Sauron and Angmar Denathor Gondor Soldier Bolg It might be stretching it, but a team pack with Elendil and Isildur would be very welcome as well. I'd be happy with this. Quote
Blakstone Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 How many has bought LEGO Dimensions Lord of the Rings characters? I haven't yet, but I might pick up a Gimli based on the comparison photos above and to show support for this line. LEGO generally looks at the first couple weeks sales to determine if a set is popular. I checked three stores. Target the day after release had Sold Out of the three LotR fun packs. The Hastings yesterday did not look like it sold any Dimensions of any kind. Walmart today had sold out of Legolas but the Gollum and Gimli looked fairly well stocked. Hopefully that is a good sign. Quote
Ardelon Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 I am actually surprised there are Dimensions sets for LotR but not for the Hobbit, which is a more recent and kid-friendly series of films. Quote
HawkLord Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 So far, I've only bought the Gimli pack, but I plan to buy all the others just for support of the IP and because I can always use LOTR parts. Generally, I've been seeing most of the Fun Packs in good quantity - no are close to being sold out in my area. The Team Packs and Level packs have been doing much better and maybe an LOTR version of either could be a hit. Given how little Lego has used new parts in Dimensions and how potentially limited LOTR characters could be in Dimensions, I'm not overly hopeful. I mean, most LOTR characters are fighter types (with the obvious exceptions of Gandalf, Saruman, etc), so they wouldn't bring a ton of needed mechanics to the game. Quote
Blakstone Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 I got the Gimli pack today. I hope LEGO gets the right message for this. Otherwise, they just might only re-release Frodo and Aragon in future waves. We want new characters and hopefully a new D2C set like Ghostbusters is getting. Quote
Venunder Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 I am unlikely to play the Lego Dimensions game, ever. However if TLG can produce some new characters, missing from the original series of LOTR and Hobbit sets, then I will be buying the Dimensions Packs. Quote
