While Minas Tirith would be a great set, I think the location is just too large and epic to properly in a single Lego set. It was compared to the Death Star above. I am a big Lego Star Wars fan, but I don't really like the Death Star set and I'm not planning on buying it. It's expensive, and amounts to a display of various scenes that took place in the Death Star over 2 movies. I know Lego is not necessarily supposed to be to perfect scale and accurate, but I'd prefer, for example, a larger stand alone set of the emperor's throne room as opposed to the small one they jammed into the Death Star.

That being said, I suggested a few pages back that I think a good set would be just the court yard with fountain, tree, throne room, etc. Make it the largest set of the wave, $100-$150. It can include Aragorn, guards, nobles to recreate the coronation scene, and can also include Denethor, Faramir, and Pippin for the bonfire scene. If they ended up making a huge $400 Minas Tirith, I'd probably have the same feelings towards it that I have for the Death Star.

Also, even though Minas Tirith is an important locale, there are many more scenes that are important to the story that haven't been done yet. Eowen vs the Witch King, the Balrog, and Mt. Doom. I really can't seem them ending this license without doing something with Mt. Doom.

As much as Mount Doom is important to ROTK, I'd hate for one of the remaining valuable slots to be used up on it. We already have Sam, Frodo and Gollum so it would be overlap as far as minifigs are concerned. If they had Isildur and Elrond it would be a little better, but as far at Mt Doom is concerned, I MUCH rather have a prologue themed set with Sauron, numenor soldiers, elven soldiers, orcs, Gil Galad, Elendil, Elrond, and Isildur.

A Mt Doom set could be fudged to be a Prologue themed set. 'slopes of Orodruin' type of deal. Have the gamestop Elrond (perhaps updated with Elrond's proper hair), Isildur, Elendil, Sauron, Orcs, and 2 of each of Numenoreans and Noldor. But I agree overall that a Mt Doom set is largely a waste. It's not a particularly special volcano. Sammath Naur would look goofy if not done right, either. A Prologue set would be best done as a battle pack in the 12.99 style without any main characters, or in a larger format with Sauron, Elendil, Gil-galad and Isildur.

Since we're in fantasy land...

My absolute dream wave:

$12.99 The Last Alliance of Elves and Men: 2x Noldor Warriors: tower shields (unique mold), gold elf spears, new helmets, purple capes. 1x Numenorean Archer with winged helm, black longbow, black quiver, black cape. 1x Numenorean Warrior with gladius, shield, winged helm. Small rock formation with Numenorean standard.

$19.99 The White Tree: The White Tree. Pippin (Citadel guard). Guard of the Citadel x2 with spear, cape, and unique helm. Gondorian Warrior x2 with gladius, shield, pointy winged helm.

$29.99 The Witch-King's Hour: Armored Eowyn, Armored Witch-King w/ flail & sword (armored and unique helm can be removed/swapped out to mod in a normal Nazgul), Merry (Rohan), Theoden. Fellbeast.

$59.99 The Mirror of Galadriel: Galadriel, Celeborn, Frodo (suspenders), Haldir (Lorien garb), Lorien Elves x2. Galadriel's Mirror, stairs & mini-mallorn trees, throne platform area.

$79.99 Ithilien Ambush: Mumakil. A couple trees/shrubbery. Faramir (ranger). Madril. Damrod. Ithilien Rangers x2. Haradrim Mumakil Driver (as seen in ROTK) x1. Haradrim x2. Easterlings x2 (because why not).

$199.99 Barad-Dur: Superbly molded Sauron. Elendil. Isildur. Updated Prologue Elrond (correct cape, hair). Gil-galad. Giant, colossal, fortress-of-darkness Barad-dur. Massive, movable, light-up Eye of Sauron on top.

I think it'd be cool, personally. Something in the shape of an arch, one side with stairs leading up to the doorway and the other with a little lava-looking base holding up the other side. Isildur, Elrond, minifig Sauron, and a ring. I think it'd make a nice, cheap set. A prologue battle pack feels a little too hopeful, however awesome it could be.

If they are army builders, which they seem to be, it's not that unthinkable. Lego regularly does SW battle packs with 4 minifigs.

Personally I would rather see a prologue Mount Doom than a Frodo/Sam/Gollum one for reasons already mentioned. And, if for nothing else, because it might be the ONLY chance we have to get Sauron as he appears in the LotR films.

I think either one would work, I always envisioned Mt. Doom as a smaller set as it's just a cave in a volcano really. Some lava as a base (lave baseplate??), an arch for the entrance, and a rock path to the edge of the lava. I would probably prefer the 2nd age version as we already have Frodo, Sam, and Gollum.

Sauron would be difficult to do in Lego form. He should be taller than a regular minifigure, he looks almost twice as tall as the humans in the movie.

I honestly don't think we will get a prologue Mt Doom set. But with a little thought they could probably make a nice mid to low priced Hobbits at Mt Doom play set. It is the climactic scene of the trilogy after all. Now it doesn't't have to be a retread set. Make it a smallish play set. Steps, ledge, lava. A lot of black and orange. While the figures are a given, they can te made worthwhile. Say Orc dressed Sam and Frodo with optional helms and breastplates. ( as it is Sam only appears in one set.) Gollum (sadly not much they can do with him print wise. Maybe make his face totally crazed?) Gandalf the White (we only have 1 of him) and an Eagle. (Gotta use the mold!) give it the ubiquitous Gollum flinger, some collapsing breakaway action. Toss in a few details like a brick built backpack for Sam, with a clip to hold his pans, and in one $30-40 set you can probably get all of the little details you would need for Sam and Frodo's trip across Mordor, and the final destruction of the ring. All you would need to add would be Orc's.

I would vastly prefer a prologue Mount Doom set to one that takes place at the end of the RotK. Every minfigure could be unique and highly sought after in a prologue Mount Doom. If they do the scene at the end of the RotK sure we could get another Eagle (already have 3, not really needing/wanting more at this point), another Sam (only one, always nice to have another option I suppose), a different print Frodo, and Gandalf the White and Orcs. Really none of these figures sound THAT interesting though. I mean another Sam, or Sam in orc gear compared to Sauron? Or Numenoreans/Noldor? That's like comparing another Gandalf the Gray minifig to a Beorn/Bard/Thranduil. There is no comparison.

With that said I agree that the chances of seeing it are slim to none. Plus I would rather see a Balrog, Mumakin, one or two Gondor sets, and Witch King vs Eowyn sets over a Mount Doom anyways (unless prologue, then it would be right up there with these sets).

Could we have a Mt. Doom set depicting two different times? Why not have one with Sam, Frodo, and Gollum, as well as Sauron? You could reenact the scene where the ring is made as well as destroyed. The "lava" could actually be some loose transparent reds and oranges that you could use to submerge someone or something. As stated above, the columns could be made to collapse, similar to the Mines of Moria. It would be nice to have a prologue set, but it seems doubtful.

Perhaps they could somehow do a mold of gollum that looks like he's attacking Frodo, he could attach to some sort of backpack piece or something. Sam and Frodo also dropped the orc gear by this point, and I believe Sam also abandoned his pack with pots and pans. What they could do is give us a dirty version of the hobbits, with torn clothing, dirty messy hair, cuts on their face, etc.

I realize that they had dropped the armor and pans by Mt Doom. My point was more that by just including those few details for them to drop you would have a play set that easily covers their entire journey across Mordor, while at the same time making the figs and set a bit more desirable.

New 2014 LOTR summer wave sets:

$12.99 The Mirror of Galadriel

$25.99 Amon Hen Ambush

$40.00 The Defence of Osgiliath

$60.00 Witch King showdown

$120.00 The Battle of Minas Tirith

Can't say where I have this info right now, more info shortly.

NOTE FROM ZCERBERUS:

This stuff was cut from the 2013 official set discussion thread as again, that thread is ONLY for confirmed 2013 sets. Keep 2014 information and future wish lists OUT of the 2013 thread as you guys have been warned about this around 100 times.

Um, if this is legit, that sounds awesome. Thanks for the info!

Hm, sounds kind of wish list-y since that would give us everything that's still missing both minifig- and location-wise (Galadriel, Faramir, Witch-king and Gondorians). Sounds great, but almost too good to be true

Well, with 2014 being the year for the last Hobbit film, could also be the last year for LotR sets. Maybe they're giving us a good 'big' finale!

I would rather not trust someone with only 5 posts. If that list is real i'll deal with that later.

If there even is a summer '14 lotr wave we'll propably get told on the back of hobbit instructions like last time or soemthing.

I'm looking at some prelim pics now,

The Mirror of Galadriel: seems to have Frodo in plain shirt and Galadriel.

Amon Hen Ambush: 2 Uruk Hai, Boromir, and Merry I think.

The Defence of Osgiliath: 2 Orcs, 1 Knight(Gondor soldier), and maybe a Ranger? I think.

Witch King showdown: Witch King, Theoden, Rider of Rohan(Eowyn), White Horse, and a Nazgul.

The Battle of Minas Tirith: Gandalf, 2 Knights(Gondor soldiers), 4 Orcs? A troll, and maybe Pippin?

The figure distiribution on those are underwhelming. I think the Witch King set is the best. Thanks for the info!
