A Balrog would be awesome, but if the fell beast in the next wave is real, two brick-built creatures in one wave might be a little much. As for a Orc/human (Gondorian?) army builder, do you mean something like "Uruk-hai Army" and "Mirkwood Elf Army," or a Star Wars-style battle pack? If the list is official, "Osgiliath" could function as an expanded, mid-price range army builder. I would not expect a battle pack any time soon, though. Whether because of a licensing agreement or a design decision, we don't seem to be getting any inexpensive figure sets in the Middle-earth themes.

You are probably right about the Balrog thing. (from Lego's point of view) For the battle pack situation, as long as the sets aren't exclusive (so I can get them for 20-25% off on Amazon) and the minifig to (retail) price ratio is no greater than 1 : ~$5. Also I agree entirely with Deathleech about wanting the orcs to outnumber humans. (or elves, which unfortunately isn't the case with the MEA.....) Actually, I almost prefer the middle earth "army" sets to the Star Wars battle packs. I like the fortress walls, tree forts, artillery, wargs, horses, etc that the army sets offer. (although I'll only be buying 1 MEA because of its awkward minifig composition. I wish thranduil was replaced by an orc and came in another set instead)

Does anybody else expect a very small final wave of LotR?

My thought is that LEGO initially planned two waves, since there were only two Hobbit movies. After the decision to turn the Hobbit into three films, I presume LEGO simply halved the second wave. This would explain why we only saw four sets this year, and would mean only 3-4 more sets next year. Certainly hope I'm wrong, or that LEGO added some sets in the meantime.

I have a hard time believing that I'm still reading about that list by BlackTiger. If there was any credibility to it, he could simply forward the pictures to a mod, who could confirm the existence of prelims, and BlackTiger wouldn't have to be afraid of a responsible mod knowing the stakes for the designer passing on the images.

Regarding the above balrog discussion, I don't think the fell beast would be a problem. I expect it to be moulded, as seen in the video game (albeit smaller). However, I don't expect a balrog, either, since 'religious groups' will undoubtedly try to get into the spotlight by accusing a toy company of satanism.

Finally, I'm still not in love with Mirkwood Elf Army and frankly find the four combined sets not at all worthy of displaying. They don't scream Middle-earth to me, at all. Not recognisable, not accurate to the movie, not detailed - I'd rather display many other LotR/ Hobbit sets or a MOC.

I am sure we will get at least 4-6 LotR sets if there is a third wave. I would hope at least 5. There is no doubt something will be left out though, it's jsut a matter of what. I would guess the Oliphant, Balrog, Galadriel, etc. So far the past two (LotR/Hobbit) waves have only had 4 sets each, but the LotR one had the big D2C exclusive Orthanc and there might still be a possible Hobbit store exclusive we don't know about yet.

I remember some female fans complaining about the lack of heroines in wave one, and LEGO replied (via Facebook) that Galadriel and Eowyn will be included in latter sets. Good thing for us might be that Galadriel could be in a Hobbit set and thus freeing up space for other things in Lord of the Rings, but if I had to bet money on any set 2014, it would be Lothlorien.

Galadriel makes much more sense in a Hobbit wave, imo. She seems to have a bigger role there, and if I remember correctly she was suppose to be at the Battle of Dol Guldur. I wonder why she wasn't included in the Dol Guldur Battler set?

Her absence from that set surprised me, too. Then again, the trailers only show Radagast and Gandalf at Dol Guldur, and I suspect that Galadriel's offer to Gandalf ("If ever you need me, I'll be there.", or something along those lines) may indicate that she'll join the battle at a latter stage - maybe at There and Back Again.

That said, I think Galadriel's role in LotR was significant! In addition to her presence and insight, Frodo would have been sucked dry by Shelob without Galadriel's gifts.

And wouldn't that have been a shame... not! I can barely tolerate the film Frodo- to many simpering close ups!!

In the book he was fine I suppose- Sam is much nicer though as a person...

Talking of Sam I would really like a new face print for him. Frodo, Merry and Pippin all have a smiley face and I would like one for Sam, so as to make more cheerful Shire scenes.

I would have loved a Scouring of the shire set, as converting bag end and buying more for destruction would be amusing. still, we can combine Bag end with the orc forge!!

That is not an ideal official set but a nice MOC!

But I have to admit that I didn't like this chapter at all.

@ Lynx: When did Lego reply to them?

I think we will get a small 3rd wave because this is what we have seen with the 2nd wave of both LOTR and Hobbit, 2014 looks a busy year for Lego too with the movie and everything and there is only so much room on the shelves. But I think we will get a 4th wave because the Hobbit will be coming out on DVD/Blu-ray at this time, there will also be a complete box set and even a Lego hobbit video game so lots of talk about middle earth still around to drive sales.

I think the set shows Gandalf and Radagast just "scouting out" what's happening in Dol Guldur. I think the "attack" happens later with Galadriel and probably an elven army. TLG probably didn't want to do that scene, as they'de have to make elven warriors, and we know they're would HATE to have to do THAT.

Most likely fake. This thread is for rampant speculation, but I see no reason to believe any of it is real.

Thanks, :classic: I mean I really wasn't sure because I believe this happened last year as well.

I assume that's the case too since the Dol Guldur Battle set only contains Gandalf and Radagast (and Beorn if you include the Dol Guldur Ambush set). That doesn't seem like much of a battle with only 2 good guys. Then again the set IS named Dol Guldur BATTLE and not Dol Guldur Encounter or something.

As for Galadriel, she does play an extremely important role in the LotR films (and more so the books), but I doubt most casual fans would even know her name if they saw her. She is on screen less than 10 minutes total in the film, she has very little presence. She kind of reminds me of the Pirate Ship Ambush... her role definitely changed the outcome of things much like the Corsair ships being taken by the undead, but it was just such a small unforgettable scene from the movies compared to everything else.

Lego's names for stuff are very often slapped with generic conflict titles to make them sound more action-packed, so I would not read too much into that. Remember "The Wizard Battle" is just Gandalf and Saruman. Battle should imply a larger scale, but for Lego, it's just a hot-button marketing tool.

Hi guys, newbie here!

Just on Minas Tirith...I think its accepted that we wont be getting all the levels, and after seeing the Death Star on sale I thought something.

Couldnt we get 3 bases half the size of the Death Star bases to build upon? Just a guess as i dont really know the dimensions of the Death Star. Would the top base be big enough for a tree and SMALL building?

Thanks

Oh thanks for the info! Then I guess we'll just have to wait until people get holds on the Hobbit Sets (which, should be in the next 2 weeks I guess?)

I do think there's more sets coming, ATLEAST one more wave, until The Hobbit are finished atleast.

I'm surprised the new Hobbit sets aren't on Shop@Home yet. They're already in the Club Magazine... :look: (Anyway, that's Hobbit )

As for LotR, I definitely see a third wave (around Summer 2014) being released before TABA.
