Shroffy123 Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 That news is pretty disappointing. But it makes sense - I was always confused by the sets in each LOTR wave. Why combined FOTR and TT in the first wave, and FOTR and ROTK in the second wave. I figured the first wave would be only FOTR, second wave TT, and third ROTK. I guess a third wave was never in consideration. Too bad no Gondor mini-figs or sets. Quote
Deathleech Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 Why does the listing start at hobbit 5? Possibly because the 2013 winter wave was split into two smaller waves to make up for the fact two movies turned into three? The sets we just got are probably 1-4. That's my guess anyways. Quote
Alcarin Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 And yet... Bag End is the top seller for both Middle Earth lines, and made the top 5 most desired list for Christmas last year? While I agree that Mount Doom would make for a rather dull set. We need to be a little more cautious as to how we categorize play features. Not all play is battles or Gimli tossing levers. Sometimes a simple setting with a lot of little details works very very well. And sometimes a set doesn't need play features because it IS a play feature itself.(Bag End, LR Stagecoach, Trains, etc) Yes Bag End is top seller... why... because us AFOLs bought them like ''crazy''..... It looks GREAT for display.... Why do you think a play-set like Goblin king battle or Mines of Moria are ''poor'' sellers... because they are filled with play features and look unfinished and lacking and undisplayable... shame if its true, no nazgul, withc king, Sauron nor any Gondorian soldiers, bit of a fail with the second wave really... should've been a different assortment of sets. how no Nazgul... what were those black guys on horses in Weathertop then? Orcs? Quote
Shroffy123 Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 I'm sure a simple mistake. Yes Bag End is top seller... why... because us AFOLs bought them like ''crazy''..... It looks GREAT for display.... Robert_88 Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 This is very very sad! LotR would have been a theme with huge potential but (well, you know what they did) :(( Quote
Blazej_Holen Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 Well, that's a kick in the face although not completely unexpected. I have been working on collecting the last few LOTR sets I was missing ever since we found out there wasn't an ad for LOTR in the Hobbit instructions. Personally I expect that the summer Lego Movie sets have taken the place of the LOTR ones especially because Lego has been wanting to push the movie products so much. My last remaining hope is for a summer 2015 wave but that is only a fool's hope. I see my dreams of an official Faramir minifigure drifting away..... Maybe we will se these expected commercial in winter Hobbit instructions from the new sets...imagine that, after year of desperation and sadness, you will se..."Hey, we are not finished yet, prepare for god damn kick megablocks because in summer 2015 you will see your dreams come true..and then we´ll se a shadow on the recognizible structure of Minas Tirith D2C set..." so come on, be optimistic :) Yes Bag End is top seller... why... because us AFOLs bought them like ''crazy''..... Orcs? Yepa but no crown for witch king. And I dont want to hear about some custom made crown.. Quote
Mr. Cube Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 Blazej_Holen: Yeah, that would be nice...and then some extra wave with battle-packs of each faction :) Quote
Robert_88 Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 It's possible that they swapped the summer (LotR) and winter (Hobbit) wave because of the original release date of TABA but i'm afraid this is unlikely :( Quote

Infernum Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 October 2014 Uh, oh, that's not a good release date. December would be too soon after for a LoTR wave, as would July/August. Quote
Blazej_Holen Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 There will be no LOTR wave this year I suppose... Quote
Alcarin Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 There will be no LOTR wave EVER again I suppose... Fixed it Quote
wesker Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 The only way I see another LOTR wave happening now is if we get a complete Hobbit Trilogy video game and a visual dictionary next year to coincide with the DVD release. Quote
Trunkbass Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 Is there simply nothing we can do? Wasn't Ninjago supposed to be discontinued as well? It did got reinstated right? Couldn't we fire up a petition or a Facebook page or something like that to make sure LEGO at least knows the (possible) extend of interest in the LOTR theme? Or do you guys think that it's too early for things like that? Quote

I might be mistaken but thats how I feel. Quote

Ninjago resulted in TLG's switchboards lighting up with 10's of thousands of upset mothers that their kids favorite toy line was being cancelled. Lego had never seen anything like it. I somehow suspect that having the mothers of the LotR fans all call in wouldn't quite have the same effect. Quote

BlueberryWaffles Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 ARE YOU SERIOUSLY KIDDING ME. THEY MADE THE CORSAIR SHIP. THE CORSAIR SHIP. c'mon Lego. If that wave was the LAST LOTR WAVE, that's sad. Really sad. I was so sure that they intended to have a big wave but cut it in half. But this.... hopefully we get more. WE MUST GET MORE. Quote
atreyu2112 Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 I've been going on their Facebook and letting them know what I still want from LotR. It can't hurt for y'all to do the same. It only takes a second. Doing something is better than doing nothing. I would sign a petition, and get as many people as I can to sign it as well. I still doubt the line is dead. There are still way too many cool sets that can be made. Quote

WE MUST GET MORE. Yeh how funny can this be.... making a Ship that lasts a few minutes on the screen in the flagship LEGO set in a trilogy so full of epicness and battles and everything else.... If this line ends now which seems so this will be the biggest missed opportunity of LEGO ever... and it will be hard to beat it from the top spot.... Quote
dranguish Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 (edited) I still don't feel like there has been ANY news and people need to keep their pants on over this. Just think about all the rumors + LACK of news on Orthanc until there was actually pictures on display and an unveiling. LEGO has done a really good job recently of keeping LotR and Hobbit set designs under wraps until the very last minute. Do I want more LotR sets? You bet your bottom dollar I do. Will I be disappointed if what we got in wave #2 is the final wave? Of course. BUT I'm not gonna get caught up in hysteria when there's no way to know *just yet* if there will be anything out. Now will I be on the crazy train just like the rest IF an announcement comes, but until then I'll just take a deep breath and see what happens. Edited January 6, 2014 by dranguish Quote
Supersonic Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 I sincerely doubt that we won't get a third wave. TLG are smarter than this - they definitely know that the second wave was pretty lackluster/filler for big parts of the target group, and they definitely knew what they were doing with the intial wave (which was pretty close to perfect). From everything I have gathered, LotR sold well, too - probably not SW levels but good enough to be kept around, especially since it keeps people buying who would otherwise buy no Lego at all or very little. There are enough (semi-)plausible reasons for LotR's absence in 2014, most having to do with the Hobbit and its history of last-minute switches which have impacted Lego before, as well as the fact that there is a huge number of The Lego Movie sets in 2014. Nothing so far has actually ruled out LotR in 2015. Yes, if the line is actually finished, it's terrible news and a really weird decision after that second wave. But let's not despair when there is no official announcement declaring the theme dead yet. I would sign a petition, and get as many people as I can to sign it as well. Good idea - I'm pretty sure you could get a nice number of people signing that. Quote
Sir_Basil_Ashton Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 Quick question. In the past, how has LEGO announced that a specific line has ended or been discontinued? I have a few LotR sets and I've taken it easy thinking the line would be around for awhile. Quote
