Robert_88 Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 Minas Tirith was only an example. But in most cases you need new molds and prints for the minifigures and not for the buildings. Quote
Floundie Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 That really depends..... it costs alot less to MOC Fell Beast than minas Tirith.... because a proper Minas Tirith will use 100k pieces if not more.... 100,000?? I'm working on my own MOC of Minas Tirith in LDD, and I expect the main rock structure, citadel, and inner levels will use something over 2000 parts. The gate 700. Then each wall add-on will be 100 or so parts each. That'll end up being about 37,000 pieces if you wanted to extend the outer walls by 12x. Quote
Deathleech Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 I'm doing my own LDD Minas Tirith and it should be well under 10,000 pieces. In fact it's only around 5k so far, but it's still missing the top level. Sure that's only 3 levels, but add 4 more and you are still WAYYYYY under 50,000 unless you want to just go insane minifigure scale like those two guys who did the Helm's Deep MOC. Some buildings like Minas Tirith will be WAY more pieces, but they are generally pretty easy to build. It's not terribly hard to make a wall and then just repeat it a bunch of times. An organic creature done in Lego bricks is much harder to design, despite being on a MUCH smaller scale imo. Quote
Robert_88 Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 I think 100k bricks for Minas Tirith was also only an example. Quote

For me anything smaller than THIS scale http://legogenre.com/upper-levels-of-minas-tirith/ is not a minas Tirith :) And such scale certainly needs ATLEAST 100k bricks :) and i am probably way off and its much more. And this is what I would love to see in LEGO set... sadly it will never happen cos we got a black tower already.... but this would be AMAZING.... Quote
Deathleech Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 Just curious Alcarin, why are you so worried about Minas Tirith being minifigure scale (or close to it), but nothing else in the Lego range? A Fel Beast would definitely use more than 150 pieces if it were minifigure scale, as would pretty much all the large creatures. Thwy would be at least a few thousand pieces and most of the structures would be 50k+. Quote
Faefrost Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 For me anything smaller than THIS scale http://legogenre.com/upper-levels-of-minas-tirith/ is not a minas Tirith :) Given you dislike of compression, I think what you want would be bigger than you realize. The actual filming miniature seen on screen was 1/72 scale. At that scale it filled almost half a soundstage and rose 4 or 5 meters into the air. Minifig scale is roughly 1/48, so almost twice the size. That upper plaza alone would be about the size of a car. It's no longer a play set. It is at best a play house, and quickly nearing something that requires an actual building permit. If we are exceedingly lucky, and TLG renews or extends the license to a long term, we might someday see such a thing at a Lego theme park. But as a released set? Hells no. Quote

Not sure... probably because its the coolest and most beautiful City of men on screen and in Middle Earth at the time being..... The point is I am not against it being in a minifigure Scale.... but it has to be appropriate and by that I mean 7 levels and needs to be in size with itself if you know what i mean.... It cant have those little catapults (like on uruk hai army set or Helms deep) but it also cannot have trebuchets that are like those from that CUUSOO project (totally out of size) And i just dont see how you can make a proper Minas Tirith...... lets say that the deepening wall is appropriate size for LEGO Mians Tirith wall..... now multiply that by 6 to get to the Citadel then add around as much bricks as those 6 walls are in height to make The White Tower (according to book if i recall correctly the White Tower is as tall as 4,5-5 lvls of minas Tirith are) That is my main concern and wish.... that it looks in size with ITSELF, no need to look in proper size compared to Helm's Deep or whatever.... i want that if the 1st wall is 10 bricks tall that the Tower is 50 bricks tall not 15..... because thats lame to me. (example) And i also want that the City has as much lvls as it had on the Screen/book And I just dont see that happening and thats why im against that project or even anything close to it because it will not be in proportions with ITSELF. It will either be too big or the minifigs will look like giants against the CITY.... For example this is 10.000 better representation: You could deduct walls by a few bricks (height) and easily squish in 2 more lvls thanks to that without making it higher and then you nearly have it..... naf Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 I am thinking no Minith Tirith either. Though maybe the missiles could attach to Denethor. Blast off! Osgiliath sounds more likely to me as well. But more ruins doesn't really excite me. Really the only things I care about getting is the witch king with the fel beast,Eowyn, maybe Gothmog and a mumakil. The rest is gravy and frankly at this point Ill be happy to get anything. I'm against Osgiliath for the same reason, I really don't want another set that's just ruins. We basically got that with the Mines of Moria, Riddles for the Ring, and the Dol Guldor sets. I'd like some sets that aren't a big mass of gray. Quote
Dr.Cogg Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 Alcarin ,wil a lot of people would like a set like that, It's just to unrealistic for a Lego set, the most expensive I could see ,would be a $250 Minis tirith. Quote
MKJoshA Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 I'm really like these ideas of a Gondor courtyard with the white tree or the lighting of the beacon. They may fizzle like the Council of Elrond has, but they would be great for us AFOLs! I was thinking more about the crowning of Aragorn. Of course, there is a distinct lack of flick fire missiles in that scene, so it probably won't be made! That didn't stop them in the Weathertop set. Flick-fire tree roots my beard! Quote

Quite a few of us would love to have something like that. If I tried to make this in my living room, it would be like that scene in Close Encounters of the Third Kind where the guy dug up his yard and built a model of Devil's Tower in his living room. Everyone basically considered him to be crazy at that point. The White City would be a tough subject. If it were to be represented in Lego form, perhaps only key areas like the front gate or the Citadel with the White Tree would likely be represented. If Lego made a Minas Tirith that costs more than the Death Star, it would probably not sell too well as it would attract only a narrow audience. As much as I like Lego and LOTR, I probably could not focus so much money on one set. Many people would want it, but far fewer could afford it. Quote
MKJoshA Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 ...but far fewer could afford it. Oh No! You used the word "afford"! Do you realize what you've unleashed! Alcarin, he didn't mean it! Quote
Deathleech Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Oh No! You used the word "afford"! Do you realize what you've unleashed! Alcarin, he didn't mean it! LOL! Oh no indeed, now wealth adviser Alcarin is going to tell you how to manage your finances and save so you CAN afford it! But in all seriousness, I don't really get your line of thinking Alcarin. So you fully acknowledge Lego cannot possibly make a minifigure scale Minas Tirith to your standards (given their piece and budget constraints), but at the same time you don't want them to make a scaled down version either? And you don't want to MOC your own? So basically you love Minas Tirith so much you don't want to ever see it in Lego form unless it's some ridiculous MOC by someone else? Quote
Alcarin Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 LOL! Oh no indeed, now wealth adviser Alcarin is going to tell you how to manage your finances and save so you CAN afford it! Well I stand by the words I said before about ''affording'' so i will not be unleashed sorry :P But in all seriousness, I don't really get your line of thinking Alcarin. And you don't want to MOC your own? So basically you love Minas Tirith so much you don't want to ever see it in Lego form unless it's some ridiculous MOC by someone else? Yep pretty much.... Now I dont mind LEGO making a part of Minas Tirith as i explained twice before (Just the Gates + some wall or the courtyard + White Tower(and potentially Hall of Kings) ..... And i am also entirely for a Micro scale Minas Tirith which I bet would look cool and I would purchase multiple just to support it.... The problem is not with the scale down version the problem is it will not be in size with itself..... it will either be something that is cut in half or more (lvls wise) or its height vs length proporitions will be out of place.... To me that CUUSOO version looks like a Tower on a rocks with 1 wall..... that is not Minas Tirith to me despite some recognizable parts.... It feels like some architect went to Minas Tirith was inspired by it and went home and made a bad replica :) Its just how i feel.... That is also why I would prefer only gates + wall + grond/siege tower/catapult whatever set for 140 or even 200$ .... with like 9(140$)-14(200$) figs.... that would be satisfying to me already. Quote

Hepitos Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 ahhhh, i understand :) But, if we ever get a minas tirith set, i think it would be like this one. Quote
Robert_88 Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 (edited) Yes, it should be slightly bigger and the catapults must be smaller. But apart from that it looks like the city and is small enough to be an official set. It wouldn't be perfect but probably as good as it gets. Edited January 28, 2014 by Robert_88 Quote

But i know for sure id vote no if it was either that one or no Minas Tirith :) I think the best it would be if we get a 140$ Gates of Mians Tirith with Grond/siege tower/catapult and like 9 figs (Gandalf the white, pippin in Gondor armor, Faramir/Denethor, Gondor Soldier, Gondor Archer, Armored Troll, Gothmog, Orcs x2-3) Quote

Haltiamieli Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 But i know for sure id vote no if it was either that one or no Minas Tirith :) You have principles, I have to give you that. I would certainly take a complete Minas Tirith play set if the other option would be having zero Gondor sets and minifigures. Beggars can't be choosers... But yes, I too would really prefer a set that wouldn't even try to present the whole city, just the gates and Grond. I already presented my crude and somewhat overblown "proof of concept" elsewhere (inspired by Yooha's design). Strip away some of the superfluous details, add Grond, play features, catapults and minifigures and you could have a solid start for a set design: Quote

Add Grond and Siege Tower and those 9 figs and you have it :) and make in the back of wall on 1 side cantina for soldiers and on the other an armory with stairs.... simple beautiful set and you can moc from here if you wish and od that. Do you know how many pieces was used to build that? Edited January 28, 2014 by Alcarin Quote
