Yeah their choices of sets has been puzzling. I have no idea what led them to those directions but they seem to be against all common sense.

No Balrog set which would have been based off one of the most memorable scenes.

We get a Mouth of Sauron set which is incredibly unrecognizable since it's only in the extended editions which most people haven't seen.

No Lich King or his flying d00ds in Minas Tirith.

We get a pirate boat seen for all of 5 seconds in the non-extended editions and ghosts that are clearly badly designed minifigures (but what could they do...).

It just seems like Lego just messed up. Poor choices IMO.

Also aiming it at kids that much and ignoring a lot of the AFOLs for a set of movies 10 years old? Wat? You can't do that and expect massive kid sales! The movies are popular but they're not Star Wars.

Make them more AFOL friendly and I bet they could have sold more.

I feel like Lego just made a lot of mistakes with this theme which sadly killed it.

Deathleech: LotR geek´s note:There is scene where Sauron´s army is all in uruk-hai armor. But it was only in the first teaser and it was never used in final version of the films. I don´t like that uruk-hai helmet on Mordor orc too.

Those are probably actual Uruk-hai, as opposed to "Mordor orcs," which is why they are using that type of armor. Sauron bred Uruk-hai first, Saruman just used them exclusively for his army. He most likely improved them too, making them stronger.

It's from the first preview in the year 2000. They had not yet worked out how all the designs and armor types would play out at that point, and they also are flying Sauron's banner, which ends up being less prominent in the final films.

I know that Sauron bred Uruk-hai first, but in the films, this fact is not mentioned, because they wanted to differeniate Saruman´s army from Sauron´s army. I just posted it because it´s interesting to see marching army of Uruk-hai (in Uruk-hai armor from the final film - so Isengard Uruks) with the Sauron´s banner :)

It's a great image. Thanks for posting it.

I think that if the theme were to continue for a little longer it would be neat to get a Minas Morgul. You could get the Witch King, his Fell Beast, a Nazgul on his horse, a new Gollum, a few exclusive Mogul Orcs, a lightbrick in the tube-thingy at the top of the fortress, and BAM! Instant bestseller!MinasMorgul.jpg

Yes it would have some appeal and it would look great in any collection. It wouldn't look too much like orthanc with the walls and color differences. It could work.

Minas Morgul could be heavily scaled down and still be a swank set. MM is all about the sharp spiky crenelations, the light-up tower, and the statues in the front. Honestly, I could see it as a $130 set. Scale it down significantly to essentially a deeping wall height outer wall, with one big, thin tower within with some rooms inside for the Witchking and stuff. Have a causeway in the front with 2 statues and you're good to go. It'd definitely fit perfectly at a $200 pricepoint, and I think it'd be a much better exclusive than a Barad-dur, which would end up being too similar to Orthanc, IMO (big black tower again...)

swank

Minas Morgul would make a cool MOC, but absolutely not a big exclusive set that would fill up the slot of one of many many way more desirable things.

Yeah Minas Morgul would look good.... but the problem (again) is that it would have to be a 200$ Orthanc type of set minimum :P

That and I don't think it would have the customer base to make it worth TLG's time. I'd love to see it as a $400 set, that would be incredible!

Well Lego did give us the Pirate Ship Ambush and it took up the $100 flagship spot in the second LotR wave. That was featured about as long as Minas Morgul. I wouldn't put it past Lego to give us some obscure set like this. We don't think it makes much sense, but Lego...? I am sure as long as it fit a certain price point and had enough action and unique characters they would do it. I could see them giving us the Witch King, a Fel Beast, and maybe even throw Gothmog in. That's two of the big name baddies right there.

Minas Morgul would look great with some glow in the dark bricks in the walls.

An interesting thought. I wonder how much it costs to make a glow in the dark brick as opposed to a normal brick? So far, glow in the dark pieces have been used rather sparingly for features such as Army of the Dead heads, spider eyes, and on mushrooms in the Mirkwood spider set. I am going to assume that phosphorus is needed within the element to give it the glowing appearance. If those bricks could be produced on a larger scale without inflating the cost, a Minas Morgul made largely out of those bricks would certainly be an attractive purchase to many. It would definitely be different, and would make the set stand out even among other themes.

As cool as Minas Morgul is, I'd much rather get a set that would include good guys we haven't gotten yet like Faramir, Eowyn and either Gondor Soldiers or Archers. Let's be honest, at BEST a MM set would include Frodo, Samwise & Gollum. Right there, it's a waste. Let's be honest, if there are any offerings, they will be limited. My hope is that because there is a delay, and that it takes about a year to produce, maybe TLG will alter LotR wave 3 (if we get one) to include what we've been asking, screaming & begging for... Balrog, Witchking & Fell Beast, a Gondor set & add-on set (Osgiliath or Minas Tirith), and Treebeard.

I hope you are right but somehow i doubt it..... It would be amazing if we knew more but i am not hoping for any information until December atleast.
