coolguy2323 Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 Actually the reports from the London toy fair talk about TLG indicating superheroes becoming evergreen. And superheroes are very popular. As for licenses, one of the reasons for the Lego Movie is to help TLG grow their non licensed portion of the company. Not to be so reliant on the money they bring in. I suspect if the Lego movie, sets do really, well we will see more non licensed lines coming out. That would be a shame. I only buy the licensed sets. Quote
Mistermorriss Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 Brickshow.tv has just tweeted that no lego lotr in 2014. I asked if more we're coming at all but no answer. They're at the NYTF. Gutted. Quote

Mistermorriss Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 I didn't think it was confirmed. My bad. Quote
N7LEGO Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 Damn ! So my wallet can take a nap this year... Quote
Deathleech Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 I didn't think it was confirmed. My bad. It wasn't, but the likely hood of Lego releasing a LotR just two months after the Hobbit one was very unlikely. If the Hobbit wave was going to be released in October that would of only left Novemeber or December for 2014 release months. Quote
Robert_88 Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 (edited) My theory for LotR is: They planned to release the TABA sets in summer wave 2014 (according to the original movie release date) and the LotR sets afterwards. Then when the release date was pushed back to December it was already too late to bring the LotR sets in the summer wave. Does that make sense? Edited February 16, 2014 by Robert_88 Quote

BrickG Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 My theory on LotR is it is dead. There will be no new sets. It just hasn't sold well enough I think. Not saying that it sold BAD but compared to other licenses I don't imagine it selling as good. I am sad. Quote
SMC Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 There are lots of thing that could have messed this wave up, the change in 2 to 3 films the change in release date of the 3rd film and the lego movie. But is there a good reason for Lego to bring it back in 2015? Quote
Sir_Basil_Ashton Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 I remain optimistic that there will be new sets in 2015. Hopefully all the speculation on the change in the release of the Hobbit movies and LEGO sets is what through the LotR sets off. I'll be shocked if we've seen the end of LEGO LotR. Quote
Robert_88 Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 I don't think the Lego Movie is very important in this case. TLG knew exactly when they will release this movie and how important it will be in 2014. Quote
atreyu2112 Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 I too will be very shocked if we don't see at least one more LotR. I'd be pretty pissed off actually. Quote
Mistermorriss Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Isn't it Tolkien's 100th birthday soon or something like that? That should surely generate enough interest to justify some more LEGO. Quote

But is there a good reason for Lego to bring it back in 2015? There's still the DVD release of TABA around April 2015 with the Extended Edition coming out around November. Its not much compared to a new release in theatres but at least Middle Earth will still be in the public eye a little while longer. I suppose a Hobbit/LOTR six film boxset might add a little bit more incentive. Quote

Yeah there is a reason for Lego to bring LOTR back for just one year, will they, I don't know but if we don't see anything in 2015 that will be it. Quote

But is there a good reason for Lego to bring it back in 2015? There may be a strategic reason. Hasbro just unveiled their Kre-O Dungeons and Dragons line. The figs are OK, but the sets are awful. Poor mans Castle. Worse than the Megabloks World of Warcraft sets. I can see Lego keeping some sort of High Fantasy theme going in order to not leave that space unchallenged. It's a small hope I know. But you have to figure that TLG is warily watching just how aggressive Kre-O and Megabloks have been with licensing suddenly. Quote
deskp Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 But you have to figure that TLG is warily watching just how aggressive Kre-O and Megabloks have been with licensing suddenly. well, lego has also been fairly agressive in lisencing recently aswell, they bagged DC and Marvel, they got firsts right to everything disney and WB pretty much, they have nickelodeon and have partnerships with cartoon network. not to mention simpsons for as long as they want it(ish) They have a set for bttf and ghostbusters for Kre-o and megabloks lisences are pretty much all they have, because their products are so bad. and they are losing rights for the big thing to lego. so they have to go after videogames lego wouldnt lisence anyways. It's highly unlikely that this would have any bearing whatsoever on the LOTR license continuing. The general populace doesn't know (and likely doesn't care) about such an event, and Lego most likely wouldn't use that for marketing a children's toy. Quote

And Tolkien's 100th birthday was actually back in 1992. No such natural celebratory times are in sight now. Quote
Diggydoes Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Have other previous released licensed themes officially announced when they were about to end? Or do they simple disappear? When i look at shelves at the brand stores i sadly think that LotR is done with only 4 available sets Quote

Pirates of the Caribbean and Lone Ranger seem to be the most recent examples. Quote
