Moz Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 I'm pretty sure that most people aren't exactly willing to put on their actual worst MOCs. My worst ones I don't have photos of, and even today I rarely take photos of things are are obviously too awful to be useful. So my "worst MOC I have photos" of still has useful features. And some of these are just "MOC built when there weren't a lot of pieces available. My first MOCs were built using the 854 go-cart and no other Technic, because that's all I had. Which meant there was some awful stuff, I built a jeep model but the colour I had most bricks in was white, and I only had enough of that for ~1/3 of the outside of the model. So it was done in "dazzle" camoflage, meaning "random colours", since that's what I had. Quote
Hypo Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 My worst ones I don't have photos of... THAT's the point! Quote
Paul B Technic Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 I guess what I tried to build yesterday would be counted as my worst. It was meant to be a pneumatic log splitter but it didn't really work out. No photos of it but I did learn a lot for "version 2" :) Quote
JJ2 Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 Sorry for bumping this topic but here is my 2nd worst MOC I have ever built and am still ashamed of it pure ugliness and every part of did not work. Screenshot (18) by JJ2Sam, on Flickr It was NXT powered, torsion bar suspension, rotating and grabbing claw and arm. Also it could not even reach the ground so it was a complete failure. Quote
PorkyMonster Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 here's my worst moc... wanted to create a SUV, but ended up with this monster instead Quote
syclone Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 (edited) Strangely, I do like that one ^ Probably one of my worst mocs It is from 2013^ Here is a recent fail, from couple of months ago Edited May 13, 2016 by LXF Quote
Nick Barrett Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 Very entertaining thread.... it's only fair to contribute myself, here's an early horror from shortly after my dark ages: http://www.moc-pages.com/moc.php/196292 It was done with pre-1982 stuff and an 8880. Still no excuse for working less than well and looking worse... Quote
suffocation Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 Wow, some of these "worst" mocs are actually pretty impressive. Before building my bubble tow truck (my first real moc and equally deserving of a place in this thread) I had a go at a "crawler". Since I had lots of parts but no experience I threw together ideas from 9398, 8110 and Paul Boratko's awesome 5+R gearbox, which I actually managed to make a mess of. This is as far as I got - the aesthetics and mechanics were all over the place so I eventually scratched the whole project. http://bricksafe.com/pages/hateofallhatreds/failed-mocs Quote

syclone Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 (edited) Found some of my mocs when I was 12 and 13 years old... http://bricksafe.com/pages/LXF/fail Example: F1 from 42008 Edited May 13, 2016 by LXF Quote

TheNextLegoDesinger Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 My first moc was also my worst, before that i only did modding. It had a superhigh groundclearance between the front and rear axle but under axles it was shit. it had 4 wheel drive using 2 XL motors and steering by a L motor. In the engine bay it had a V8 and a VERY good winch (probraly the best thing on it). It offered full independent suspention and a large cargo bay. this it the 'beauty': https://goo.gl/photos/soLv5UtRbB3r1GvB6 sadly i don't know how to place the pictures here using google pictures Greatings TNLD Quote
Sylvian Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 (edited) my first moc after i came out of my darkage. Edited May 13, 2016 by Sylvian Quote
Didumos69 Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 (edited) Somehow this thread teases out the best kept secrets . Some MOCs - like the one above - look really good. Keep them coming!! Edited May 13, 2016 by Didumos69 Quote
Lipko Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 Sylvian, with a little polishing (front area and the roof), it could have been a very nice MOC. Quote
Didumos69 Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 (edited) These are my first builds when I was only just awakening from my dark age. One for my son (red) and one for my daughter (yellow). They both have Ackermann steering and torsion bar suspension for the rear axles. Originally they were also equiped with seats and a pickup trunk, but those got sacrificed in the act of play. These small builds reveal that I'm more into suspension and steering kind of things than into realistic bodywork. I'm affraid all Lego Technic generations are represented in these builds. The gray brick at the bottom of the yellow car's grille goes back to the first generation of Technic parts. Edited May 13, 2016 by Didumos69 Quote
MRP_ Posted May 14, 2016 Posted May 14, 2016 (edited) like basically everyone else, my worst mocs weren't ever recorded, but my worst recorded project, which i admitted was a total failure at the time, is this horrid excuse for a crawler. edit - embedded video Edited May 14, 2016 by MRP_ Quote
Saberwing40k Posted May 14, 2016 Author Posted May 14, 2016 Remove the s from https, so the video is just http. By the way, that crawler isn't that bad. At least you got it to drive around without breaking anything. My first crawler was a monster truck based on the 8258 b model, and had both differentials and no hub reduction. I tried driving it, and half a bevel gear flew out. Oops. I know now that crawlers work better without differentials, and with hub reduction. Quote
Kiwi_Builder Posted May 14, 2016 Posted May 14, 2016 My first Technic truck MOC, I had a very limited parts supply. It ain't amazing, but the more I look at it the more it grows on me. Quote
nerdsforprez Posted May 14, 2016 Posted May 14, 2016 I love this thread. Been looking at it all morning. I certainly have some bad MOCs/MODs, but most of the early stuff I did was modifications to sets rather than actual MOCs, so hopefully nothing too bad. I do remember one project in particular where I learned the painful lesson of Lego cost. I set out to build a replica of the Willis Tower (Chicago, US) and I wanted the scaling to be exact. To the individual towers. I completed the internal structure, what would be like the steel structure in a real building, and painfully learned that the cost was not worth it to me to complete the whole thing. I had tons of fun, got the scaling down perfect, but learned that I almost had to do an expense report from then on out before I began a project so I would not get part way done and realize I didn't want to spend the $$ completing it. PunkTacoNYC Posted May 14, 2016 Posted May 14, 2016 Worst mocs, hmmm...... Hey, I've got lots of those! Here is my modified 8110 Unimog. It was my first "moc" and it featured an XL motor for drive and - hehe - an XL for steering. And wait, the best part is that the XL was geared using two 40 tooth gears and most of the torque from the XL was lost in the flimsy axles running down the rear of the cabin. Oh me.... Quote
Technic Jim Posted May 14, 2016 Posted May 14, 2016 My worst one is probably my ever so simple Caterpillar track crawler: Or my first 4x4 with top notch steering geometry and amazing clover subtitles: Quote
xboxtravis7992 Posted May 15, 2016 Posted May 15, 2016 I don't have a lot of Technic MOC's but when I saw this thread I just had to chime in, just excuse the focus more on Bionicle and System MOCs: This is a digital "recreation" of my first Bionicle MOC; when I was seven years old http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=6390909 Another Bionicle one, when I entered a BZpower contest in 2006: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=2177901 And a whole MOCpages post dedicated to the rainbow warriors of old: http://www.moc-pages.com/moc.php/357049 Quote
