Well, it looks very nice (before pics were taken down)

I thought I saw... 2 women minifigs and one grey haired spielburg?

I wonder if its just those 3 or if more might be hidden from view.... probly not

Nice to see a set where the women outnumber the men for once.

Not sure I'd buy it though, because I don't buy UCS display models, and this strikes me as the City equivilant to that sort of thing.

-a beautiful ultra detailed model that you'd never want to take apart (at least no city I'd build with the parts would be a match for the original)

-but whats the point of having one if you never take it apart?... ohwell, I have issues with UCS quality sets...

you could just put it in your town display even though anybodys buildings they had met would look rubbish compared to that (mine included |-/ )

I must say that even for a non City freak like me, this set is absolutely brilliant!

It can make a incredible display model that you are not afraid to show to your (old) friends that are non Lego fans :-)

It looks like this cafe corner is another ldd job *n*

What does 'ldd job' mean?

And as I said in the other thread (Shop@home 2007), this may be one of the best sets LEGO has ever made. Although I agree that it doesn't really fit in between all the normal city sets, but it's just not meant to, I guess.

Wow! Astounding. I can see me buying 4 of these and making a full building and changing the exterior shops on the sidewalks.

This thing is awesome and is definatly on my list of buys along with castle and a few other city sets. Very cool ! :-D

I think what he probably means is,

that on LDD it is very common for the 'best models' gallery to consists of Gigantic detailed houses that people have made; but due to the pitfalls of designing on computer with no brick limits, are incredibly innffecient in terms of brick use (a billion darkred 1*2 plates???) and tend to cost far far too much for anyone even their creator to purchase.

and that this Cafe Corner, looks pretty much the same in terms of detail and expense.

Now, this one being a production model, of course will be much reduced in price compared to a typical LDD model. as well as having a better brick pallete available.

But it does really 'feel' like those digital models...

Righto,

so now that you can see the pics... can someone tell me what's going on at the 'corner' of the building?

where the wall is at a 45degree angle.

How was that achieved?

As far as I know... there are No 45*isocoles triangles who have integral(brickunit) sides as well as integral diagonal.

So either a special purpose part is used to attach the wall... or some 'almost triangle' relationship that uses the error tolerance of the bricks.

Townbuilding experts, know the technique?

I think the centre is just attached with hinges to the two walls either side. The floor is made of tiles, so the centre does not attack to the base.

Right, but theoretically, there can be no 45degree diagonal walls on a brick grid, that are an integral brick length.

example, suppose the diagonal was crossing a 4*4stud area of floor, the diagonal length is... Root32, or 5.658studs long -obviously we cannot build a wall this length to fit in the diagonal space...

5*5 gives 7.07studs diagonal

6*6 gives 8.48studs

...there just arent any possible ways to make that diagonal wall fit just right between two normal walls,

so if they are using hinges, then they are probably under stress...

which is what i'm wondering, is there a magic triangle which is officialy 'close enough' to be inside of the plastic tolerances, or is there a special part that offsets the difference?

I just called my LEGO store and they said it would be available to purchase (in store) this Saturday, March 10th. It is $140.

I'm thinking that perhaps the angled wall of the cafe is either not attached at all or is attached by a single jumper plate, or if that doesnt work three jumper plates with two holding up a third to offset the studs in both directions, this could be hidden under the floor above the stairs and therefore would go unnoticed. I'm rather surprised that hingebricks don't work.

Whitch store did you call? I called the one in the valley fair mall and though they said they have heard of it, they don't know when it will be out.
