Well since they don't produce the old brown anymore (like a certain grey)... Off course its reddish brown Mr Mayor ;-)

I'm thinking reddish brown, too ;-)

This pic is kinda worrisome:

On my screen it looks like two different shades of brown :-/

Yeay that looks odd !! I hae 2 plausible explenations though:

* This Is Lego (little play on words for the viewers of Blood Diamond ;-) )

* that guy added some brown bricks :-D

Anyhow its still another venture into unknown charted territories :-D

Lego even shows us what to do with the amount of six (!) cafe corners put together....

What a waste! Two thirds of four out of the six sets are dicarded for that model....

That is really wierd......are all off those alternate models in the instruction booklet except for this, which is a modification (Oh, how I wish that was in the set :'-) ). That's ALOT of very similar alternate models! EDIT: Disregard, I've just read Brickjournal 7.

And another thing--I love this set overall, but I'm kind of anoyed now to see that they gave us a green baseplate. The outside is all covered up by pavement, so the only place you see it is in the inside, the last place you want to see it!!!!! *wacko*

If they're too lazy to give us a bottom floor at least give us a grey baseplate so we don't need one! This is obviously an Urban scene! Why green in the first place? It's just to perfect, give us a grey plate, cover it on the outside and pretend it's flooring on the inside. It's the not only the easiest way to go, but it looks great, and TLG still manages to screw it up!!! Why?

I figure the green showing on the backside corner is a little courtyard area,

maybe its a carpet on the inside...

Ya know, I actually like the spaceship alt model that guy made.

Questionable colors, but the cockpit design is neat.

why would anyone do that?? *wacko*

I saw that gallery, too, earlier. Actually I think it's funny ;-)

Sure, it's not the best way to display a brand new set but it adds humor to the layout. That's what I like with some of the layouts on brickshelf. It's like some members here think about stories for their pics...

Or it's a display of the half-life period of current LEGO bricks... :-/

I will definitely be buying at least one if not two and MOC the other one into something else. There is one downside to it and that is they could have thrown in another lamp post and an extra figure or two. Otherwise this set is great, shows us that LEGO does have some care for us big kids at heart.

Oh and Hobbes, according to Peeron's inventory, the stairs are reddish-brown. I hope that helps.

I like how they modularized the series. The 6 set corner block they showed on the box is very impressive. While I like the idea, I don't think the majority of town fans will have 6 sets of these in their basement (or attic in the case of calvin! :-P) usually in a town layout there will be one most impressive building/monument. I'm a member of the group that had that display up, and about 20 mins after that pic was taken, we added a second one that was built properly on to the right-hand side of it. So we had one half that was nice and pristine while the other was dilapidated and run down. We also had the box for the set there and we were passing it around, so plenty of people saw what it 'should' look like.

probably two brothers that each got half the hotel when their dad died, and the one was just really lazy...kinda like my brother...but that's neither here nor there. :)

Also, I didn't notice any difference between the brown of the stairs and the brown of the bricks. That said, I did notice a problem with a difference in hues between the larger dark blue bricks/plates versus the 1x1 plates. The 1x1 plates seemed to be a noticeably darker hue, and this even was visible on the pics on the box as well.

Overall I thought it was a very nice build and well built. Definitely worth the price at only $140 bucks.

Welcome to EB, Eccohawk, and thanks for this little insight :-)

Ah, damn, hue still is a problem :-/

I agree, the price is a refreshing surprise for a set of that size...
