Aanchir Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 Can someone tell me who is that Overlord character?? The Overlord is basically the main villain of the Ninjago storyline. It is a nebulous evil entity that is implied, in the graphic novels, to have been responsible for the creation of the Great Devourer, which was responsible for Lord Garmadon's corruption and gave rise to the Serpentine. The Stone Warriors were also created to serve the Overlord. The Overlord first appeared on Ninjago after it was created by the first Spinjitzu master, Wu and Garmadon's father. Ninjago was a place of light, and the Overlord emerged because light and shadow are in equilibrium. The Overlord and the first Spinjitzu master were mortal enemies and fought many battles. The first Spinjitzu master protected the people of Ninjago from the Overlord's conquest by splitting Ninjago in two. The Overlord's half of Ninjago sank, leaving only a single dark island where the Overlord's presence remained strong. The Overlord's machinations eventually resulted in Lord Garmadon finding this island and taking command of the stone army. However, when the tide began to turn in darkness's favor, it increased the Overlord's strength and allowed it to possess and transform Lord Garmadon. Lloyd defeated the Overlord in the most recent season finale, saving Ninjago City. In the current story arc, the Overlord has returned as the "Digital Overlord", a virus that has taken control of Borg Industries (which was built at the site of that climactic battle). Quote
Pulp Detective Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 Wow...who knew that ninjago had such a deep story!!Any way thanks for the info. Quote
Freddy Bricker Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 Wow...who knew that ninjago had such a deep story!!Any way thanks for the info. Haha I thought the same thing too. But seriously, does anyone else think the overlords vehicle looks like something out of Chima? No sign of Samurai X though, so getting her set will be a big priority now. Quote
Aanchir Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Wow...who knew that ninjago had such a deep story!!Any way thanks for the info. It's definitely one of the deepest stories for any current theme, even if it doesn't have such an intimidating level of depth as BIONICLE did. On a side note, if that vehicle IS the Overlord's, I hope the colors change. I have really liked the visual language established in this and previous years, with gold being used extensively for vehicles and locations associated with the heroic Ninja and being almost completely absent from vehicles and locations associated with their enemies. Pulp Detective Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Do we have set descriptions for the 2 summer sets?? Quote

Maybe that's the point, Someone earlier was saying that it made sense that the OL would have gold on him because he wants power from Lloyd (golden power) It's frightening when bad guys have golden amour.., Quote
TPLSTER21 Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 I noticed some things about the "Overlord" model and have some theories/speculation on that and the summer 2014 sets in general. 1. This could be an "evolved" form of the Overborg/Cyrus Borg. In the cartoon, Cyrus looks to have been possessed by the Overlord and perhaps this model represents the final stage of his transformation? It does share similarities with the Overborg model insofar as they are both (apparently) quadruped mech chairs. 2. I believe that the Overlord model is not from the same set as the "Red Dragon Temple" model. The photo of the Overlord model (box art?) shows it standing beside what appears to be a gray structure on top of a grey base plate. That would not jive with the color scheme of the Temple set. 3. Since I think it is fairy safe to assume that the "Ninja X-1 Charger" set is a vehicle set, could the Overlord set in fact be another set that we don't yet know about? Perhaps this is in fact the "Battle for Ninjago City" set and the temple is something altogether different (another retailer exclusive perhaps?) I found the news of there only being 2 sets in the summer wave to be unusual as there usually seems to be at least 4 and also a smaller ($15-$25) set is missing from the listing altogether. Also, the website that first put out the announcement about the set lists has now taken the Ninjago ones down altogether while leaving all the others up. My son and I love the Ninjago sets and we hope that there is more in store for summer 2014 than what has already been announced. Quote
LegendsOfNinjago Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 (edited) , retailer exclusives normally arn't super important. For s retailer to have a form of the overlord is a bit far fetched. But I'm also disappointed with only two sets... Edited January 13, 2014 by LegendsOfNinjago Quote
horizon Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Gettin wild over snapshots, lol. The temple reminds me of a GI Joe base with the hidden shooter... Quote
LegendsOfNinjago Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Hahaha always! G.I.Joe? Never woul have thought that to be compared to Ninjago Quote
TPLSTER21 Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 I was speculating that the Overlord model was not part of the Red Temple set (as had been suggested by another poster), rather that it was part of it's own different set given the color of the building in the photo (grey). I believe that the Overlord model (and accompanying building piece) were part of the Battle for Ninjago City set and that the Red Temple was something else altogether, say a retail exclusive (Toys R Us or Lego Retail Store). I say this because the Temple, in my opinion, does not go with the set name "Battle for Ninjago City". However, the Overlord figure, with the grey (urban) building, to me makes more sense that it is part of that set. I guess we will all find out soon enough. We should at least get set descriptions soon? I find it odd that most of the other lines have set descriptions but Ninjago does not.... Quote
Freddy Bricker Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 Can someone re-link to the overlord picture please? All I remember is a funky Chima-looking chair (forgive me, that's how I'll be describing it from now on) and no building, was there such as above posters imply, because if so, I want in. Quote
Freddy Bricker Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 Everything is here! -Sci Thanks, I see the building, hope it has a nice design. Quote
LegendsOfNinjago Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 But see the building has a plant built into it...I'm not sure if that means anything but It could... Quote
Freddy Bricker Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 But see the building has a plant built into it...I'm not sure if that means anything but It could... It also seems to be using a BURP piece, that needs to go. Quote
Faefrost Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 A plant and a BURP could mean that its not a building, its a cave? Quote
Freddy Bricker Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 A plant and a BURP could mean that its not a building, its a cave? Could've sworn I saw glass, that's one fancy cave! Quote
Freddy Bricker Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 I see nothing but a dragon head -Sci Umm, we're talking about the "Overlord" Chima picture. Maybe I should stop calling it a Chima picture, but how are we sure that black walker-thing is even from Ninjago? It looks so bad Quote

That's good I guess, I still feel rather awkward calling it a Ninjago set though, of course that's not relevant to the topic at hand, but whatever. Quote
DraikNova Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 That image seems subtly different from the one that was posted earlier in the thread. Now, we know for sure it's the Overlord (or else some really major-league bad guy), because of that strange blackish-red vortex effect in the background. Strangely, the armor of the figure seems very high up on it's shoulders. I agree that the walker-mech-thingy seems to come in a different set than the temple; the aesthetics seem very different, and the walker might just be from the Ninja X-1 Charger set as an opponent for the Ninja. LegendsOfNinjago Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 Hmm...I'm looking forward to full pics. Quote
