Posted February 3, 201312 yr So my five year old and I have really enjoyed playing the Legends of Chima game. He doesn't know it, but I've secretly been using it to sharpen his math skills. However, I'd grown tired of chasing chi balls, weapons, and heads around the kitchen and from under the oven. Since I'm a wargamer, my son and I began using my 4'x4' gaming table in the basement to play chima on. The board is covered in glued sand and green grass flocking, which while it looks sweet, was scratching up the bottom of the speedorz and staining the wheels green. So I decided to make a special Chima/Ninjago gong table that my wife would allow upstairs. I didn't know what I was going to do with it, but it ended up being the frame for this thing. While its not a Lego creation, it is a creation FOR Lego, so I hope it'll be allowed. Comment or questions welcome.
February 3, 201312 yr That's so cool!I did that once with sand for my star wars sand troopers to fight in.
February 3, 201312 yr Looks really nice and professional. It´s actually what I think Speedorz training areas would look like in real life.
February 3, 201312 yr That is really good idea. Being a Wargamer also I can understand you using your tables for that, (In fact I have been thinking of using my LEGO City for a Wargames scenario.) it is a pity the flock was turning the speedorzs wheels green, but you have come up with a great solution. A short video of the speedorz in action on the table would be great?
February 4, 201312 yr How do the Speedorz work on it? It looks fantastic, but the surface seems uneven and rough, whereas from my experience, Speedorz work best on a smooth, flat surface. I'm not saying they won't work well on that, but if they do I'd be interested to know exactly how well they work.
February 4, 201312 yr That's very cool. Beats playing on the floor for sure. Expecially when guys like me with old knees want to play with our kids.
February 4, 201312 yr Author Thanks for kind remarks guys. -I'd love to shoot a video, but we no longer have a functioning video camera. I can try with the iPhone but I suspect it'll look terrible once I upload it. I'll try though. -the speedorz run well on it but admittedly they're faster on the kitchen floor. The surface is made from some kind of textured wall covering that I picked up at Home Depot. Its got a bit of a foam feel to it, which I like because it doesn't tear up the speedorz. The best thing to do, in terms of speed, would have been to just paint the MDF board because its hard and smooth. However, I'm an aesthetic nut and wanted there to be some texture. Here's a close up of the surface just after I laid it down and had just started gluing pink foam on the sides for the rocks. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8052/8446053284_4479c18cfd.jpg That's very cool.
