Kintobor Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 (edited) OOC: hinthintbigvoiceintheskyisgivingusaclue Upon hearing the party leader suggesting the option of sleep, Karie stares him down. "Oh yes, lets sleep here, and get tortured with tomorrow! What a grand idea! We all know who's getting played with first!" Karie pushes the automaton ranger out of the way and measures the Cymbalroots stock. Edited February 10, 2013 by Kintobor Quote
Endgame Posted February 10, 2013 Author Posted February 10, 2013 QM Note: No sleep, lest you wake up blind, deaf, and unable to taste. The Cymbalroot's stalk was only about 7 inches in height. It was a brittle organic tube, filled to the brim with sticky sap. Some of it was gushing out, pouring on the Cymbalroot's severed head. Quote
Shoker86 Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 (edited) "Why shouldn't we try, he obviously wants as his rats, if he catches us, woud he kill us, NO" Arnulf noded to Karie " I agree, we should get the hell out of here" Arnulf ties bot silk webs into one big rope. "Will one of you rangers attach it to an arrow and fire it to keyring, than we will make the key slide to the cell, any suggestions?" Edited February 10, 2013 by Shoker86 Quote
joeshmoe554 Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 Jeaux takes the recently fasioned rope and ties it off on one of his arrows. He then coats the arrow in the sticky sap resin from the recently deceased shrubbery. He fires this new retrieval device at the key on the far wall. Aiming the arrow for gap in the handle of the key ring. Quote
Kintobor Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 OOC: nevermindGMnottryingtohelpusarie Karie gets up and goes back to examine the lock, and if possible, tries to pick it. While examining the lock, Karie mumbles to herself. "Last time I hop into a quest all willy nilly. "Oh Karie, this is going to be so easy, find a sense stealing maniac and bring him to justice!" Oh, we found him alright! Stupid apprentice and his stupid outfit..." Quote
Endgame Posted February 10, 2013 Author Posted February 10, 2013 Karie fiddles with the lock, but it doesn't prove cooperative. Jeaxu's retrieval device hits the key, but the blunt arrow simply doesn't stick to the key. No matter how much he fiddles with it, it doesn't provide and desirable results whatsoever. They would need some sort of clamping deivce to grab to and stick to the key so they could pull it back. Quote
Brickington Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 "Karie, here is my sword if you still need it." Sir Brickington handed Karie his sword. He knew he wasn't much help in situations like this. Sir Brickington is cunning or sleek, he's straight forward. Quote
joeshmoe554 Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 "Well it would seem an arrow lacks the surface area to create a solid bond with the key. Perhaps if we try it with the bud of this unique plant?" Jeaux unties the rope from his arrow and secures it tightly to the head of the Cymbalroot. He then tosses the head at the key hoping to catch it in between the vegetable cymbals. Quote
Endgame Posted February 10, 2013 Author Posted February 10, 2013 The device seems to grab for a moment, then slides off the key. Were they forgetting a step of the procedure...? The slight failure did make a pretty jazzy sound, though. QM Note: I am incredibly picky. Quote
Kintobor Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 (edited) "Stupid lock..." Karie mumbles to herself. Noticing the failure the rest of the party's having, she notices the Cymbalroots oozing head. (thanks big voice in the sky!) Before she can move however, the ranger constructs a make shift Bat-rope/plant rope/lasso of truth and flings it at the key. Karie goes back to messing with the lock, despite knowing she can't break it. The key slides off the key, and back onto the floor. "You forgot something." She retorts, smirking, still picking the lock. Edited February 10, 2013 by Kintobor Quote
Shoker86 Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 "Maybe you could chop me in pieces and throw me out of bars, and then some mage would probably assemble me " Arnulf remarked frustrated that last try was near sucess. "Cymbal will clam the key, so close " Quote
joeshmoe554 Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 (edited) "Maybe you could chop me in pieces and throw me out of bars, and then some mage would probably assemble me " Arnulf remarked frustrated that last try was near sucess. "Cymbal will clam the key, so close " Jeaux's surface quickly took on the dark appearance it had before, and the automaton replied, "I Like it! It shows ingenuity, thinking outside the box! The only thing wrong with that plan is our current lack of a mage, but we can figure that part out later. As I like to say, leap before you look!" The shadow faded as Jeaux began to think, the party could continue to try obtaining the key using their current method, and seeing as that has been described as the definition of insanity it would most likely be appropriate. Though there was most likely a better way. He could try coating the inside of the cymbal apparatus with the same adhesive material that was already on the outside. He took the stalk of the Cymbalroot plant and carefully applied the some of the oozing substance to the inside and edge of the cymbals, then proceeded to try again for the key. Emjajoas Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 (edited) Em sighs, rolling his eyes. "The answer is simple, you see," he starts. As the cymbalroot gets into position to grasp the key, Em speaks up again. "There was a big paddle sale at the boat store. It was quite an oar deal." He half snickers and half grimaces at the lamest pun that came to mind, hoping that this would cause the cymbalroot to let off its rimshot and thus grasp the key. Kintobor Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 Karie looks at the non- robot ranger, of whom she wasn't sure whether she knew his name or not, with a hint of surprise, for one, he had just spoken after a long period of silence, and two, what he just said actually was something she hadn't even thought of. "Well, he's certainly resourceful, for a spider whisperer." She thought. Karie goes back to her own little world centered around picking an un-pick-able lock. Quote
Endgame Posted February 10, 2013 Author Posted February 10, 2013 Jeaux throws the now adhesive device at the key, the head of the Cymbalroot plant catching on the key. It seems to have a bit of residual consciousness left: at the uttering of Em's rather corny pun, it clamps shut in an attempt to play its signature rimshot. With a triumphant tug on the rope Jeaxus yanks back the key, the Cymbalroot's head clamped tightly on it. They pry it off with Karie's dagger, and take the prize inside: the key! They hastily insert it in the lock. With a twist of the key, the lock becomes undone and clatters to the floor. The party swings the jail door open - they were free! They stride out of their cell, victorious... but still not having a single clue where they actually were. They can hear voices around the bend... "So, you see, it is literally that simple. Just stand here and thrash whoever decides to pass by, like a good little boy." "But is this right, sir?" "Ohh, very good. You're calling me "sir", just like I instructed you to. Yes, this is right in every definition of the word." "Dead or alive, sir?" "Dead. I have no use for lab rats strong enough to escape. Now then, I must return to my business. Do not fail me." "Do not fail you. Yes sir." With that, the party can hear footsteps as somebody walks away. Will the party prepare themselves before going around the bend? Quote
Shoker86 Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 Arnulf was pleased that party suceeded opening the cell doors "I'll apply venom to my blade, might come in handy" Quote
Kintobor Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 (edited) Karie halts when she hears the other voices. She turns back and whispers to the other party members: "That guy with the blue font is obviously the snarky, jerk faced Apprentice. As for the guy with the green font, I don't know who he is. Is he possibly the master mind behind this whole scheme?" Karie pondered on the subject. "Wait, why was I talking about font colour?" Karie draws her dagger out, and remembers the poison bottle she brought with her. She knew who this was being used against, but if the man with the blue font wasn't the apprentice... "We need to consider what Mr. green font just said. If the apprentice is ahead, we're screwed, skewered, and dead. However, it could be someone else... And what is with this font talk, jeez, I think this place is getting to my head!" Edited February 10, 2013 by Kintobor Quote
Emjajoas Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 "I feel a little stronger after that last battle, so I believe we should be able to handle what they throw at us," Em says, bow drawn and an arrow nocked. "As far as blue being the apprentice, I don't necessarily agree. He asked if this was right, something the apprentice would never do..." Em shook his head, not continuing his thought, deciding it best to remain silent. Quote
joeshmoe554 Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 "Either way, if what I heard was correct one of the 2 men speaking walked away. I'm guessing we will most likely be facing 1 or more guards around this bend." Jeaux retrieved an arrow from his quiver and prepared himself for battle. If the party managed to maintain the element of surprise, they may be able to take out these new foes before they even knew what hit them. Quote
Kintobor Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 (edited) "Wow, I must say ranger, the non- robotic one, your not as much of a physco spider talker at all. I don't think I caught your name, what was it again?" Karie whispers to the ranger. Mustering up a bit of courage, Karie pokes her head slightly around the corner, to look at who, or what they're dealing with, trying to draw as little attention to herself as possible. Emjajoas Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 (edited) "People call me Em," the green-clad ranger replies quietly, tense and ready for combat. "And as far as being a psycho, I wouldn't deny it. After all, insanity and ingenuity are often intertwined." He gestures to the remains of the cymbalroot as if to prove his point-- Whether the point be that his ingenius yet obviously crazy pun-plan worked, or that the cymbalroot represented this "Stealer of Senses" and his obvious ingenuity and insanity, it wasn't clear. Kintobor Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 "Em? I must say, it's a rather awkward name. Then again, so is "Alderflask". Did you ever say where you were from?" Karie whispers, her head still poking her head around the corner trying to get a good look at the individual down the hall, as discretely as she can. Quote
Emjajoas Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 "No," Em replies, as nonchalant as he can be. The dodging of the question is obvious. "And as far as Em being an awkward name, it's not one I chose. Just something people have called me for a long while. It's become my name." Quote
