Rocka

Scarox

Bruizer

Ogrum

Furno XL

A decent selection, though I would recommend being ready to do some modifications to Bruizer and Scarox, their functions take a toll on the outcome of the set.

I'm starting to like that model even more now. With a bit of work to fix up some of the spots, you'd have the perfect titan build. I'd really like to see something like this as the big set of 2014.

Epic redesign, Aanchir! Now I want that set! (if it even comes out...)

Also, anyone know a release date on the HF summer sets? I'm itchin' to get me some Dragon Bolty goodness!

Probably the usual time. Can't remember when they came out last year, but I'd say June/July.

So, mid summer by my estimate.

I'm excited about Dragon Bolt too. Let's hope that when the reviews come out they'll confirm it's awesomeness.

PS: I've been experimenting with different builds and skeleton modifications recently. Any ideas for a good solution to allow Savage Planet paws to be added onto the back legs of a quadrupedal MOC properly?

Posted

SP paws as the feet? Hmm.

I have an idea, but I'm not sure if it would be proper.. You could take the shortest bone part, the one that goes almost immediately from cup to ball, and attach the ball to the Paw part, and the cup to the shin/calf bone part of the leg, with the shin/calf bone part having a hinged ball connection.. I know it sounds a little confusing, but I can't describe the image any better.

Perhaps I'll build it up and take a pic or two..

I second June/July as the release date for the new sets.

Given that they hit shelves in Germany usually earlier (and I'm totally psyched for Surge, Stormer, Dragon Bolt and Frost Beast) you'll might expect a few reviews from me this summer again. :excited:

I still need to decide what order I'm getting the sets. I like to get them one at a time so I can enjoy them individually.

I really want to get Dragon Bolt ASAP because I just love dragons. Maybe:

Dragon Bolt

Stormer

Frost Beast

Surge

Aquagon

Evo

Which is essentially favorite to least. But I'll wait for reviews to see which ones stand out the most.

Jet Rocka gets no love? He and Dragon Bolt are my top two, everything else is basically a "if I have the money" scenario. Textbooks are expensive :<

Not interested in Jet Rocka. Already have the winter wave Rocka, which I love. If Jet Rocka completely blows my mind, I may get him for my birthday or Christmas when that time rolls around again. But honestly, already having a BA Rocka and Jet Rocka not having an enemy to go up against (Dragon Bolt doesn't count) just make me not very interested.

... Now if he was something like Jet Optimus from RotF, then that would be another story...

Rocka lightyear is a very iffy figure for me. While he does look decent for parts, to me he is just an awkward design. Everyone always enjoys these designs, but what I really like is something like the Exo-Toa. It's not just a backpack smacked onto a figure, it's integrated and flows well with it. I've actually always felt this was in the regard to XL heroes, I think it should be a suit that they integrate with to become larger and more powerful, not a physically larger hero itself.

That and I would need to change rocks as a pilot himself, I've never liked his personality and that enough is valid for me to want to change who pilots this. I'm still on the fence of being annoyed that rocka, like furno, has gotten yet another large set, but I think the major problems here is that it needs,,,something added to it. What that is that needs to be added, is an experiment of parts that I'll need to conduct

Ah, the rose-tinted glasses of the BIONICLE love affair.

Not saying I didn't adore the Exo-Toa, but Jet Rocka is just as integrated; it's just not a full-body suit, which is what people (think that they) want. It's far more integrated than the 2008-9 vehicles, for instance.

Not nessecarily bionicle in comparison, many examples of this have existed from transformers to old power armor toys to designs of Gundamn, but to relate to the only true instance we have see if this, I extend my thoughts to the Exo-toa. In regard to the 2008-2009 vehicles, they were giant floating guns with a half-assed figure slapped on top in 2008 and weapons-on-wheels in 2009, so I agree with those being far less integrated than this figure. Don't get me wrong, I still do enjoy the design of the figure, I like many others immediately have that jetwing prime feel from him, and for a bit less of a cost I am certain I will like the set even more in my hands.

We just need a proper villain to fight, as others have said dragon bolt isn't really an ideal opponent for him. Both can fly, sure, but personally in my mind breez will be pulling out two swords and engaging into combat with our dragon bolt friend.

Jet Rocka doesn't particularly excite me, but that's mainly just because Rocka is not a character I normally collect. Last year, the Breakout wave, was the first year when there were exactly nine hero sets (and thus,a systematic way to divide them up with my two siblings), so I got Breez, Stormer, and Surge, three of my favorite heroes from the 2.0 series. My twin brother got Furno, Bulk, and Evo, and my younger brother got Rocka, Nex, and Stringer, three heroes he had loved from the 3.0 series (lions and tigers and bears, oh my!).

Continuing this trend, my twin brother has gotten Bruizer and Furno XL this year, and I've gotten Ogrum (we have been unable to find Breez and Bulk anywhere-- the main places around here to buy LEGO, Barnes & Noble and a New England toy store chain called Magic Beans, don't seem to stock the smaller Hero Factory figures). So the summer sets I'm looking at will again be Surge and Stormer, and the corresponding villain sets.

I have to echo some of the sentiments of a few people here in regards to Jet Rocka. It's not that the set is bad, persay, but I cannot even begin to express my irritation at Rocka being the character that received this set, rather than someone else. It's bad enough that we're pretty much never going to get a new hero at this point, but to not even properly make use of the full cast we have now? It's frustrating, especiallty since I quite enjoy the characters of Stringer and Nex.

I'll stick pick it up at some point, however, if solely for pieces alone. Another problem I have with the set is how awkward it looks without the wings extended. And unless there's a way to permanently have his wings extended while the set is on display... yeah. Not going to be too much of a fan. :P

I'm fine with Rocka (I personally like him), but it's the jetpack itself. It's massive, and that being supported on Rocka's puny legs just doesn't work with me. If there were leg attachments, then I'd probably be more interested.

Speaking of Jet Rocka, I find it funny how in the episode he just happens to find the jetpack, but when he's wearing it, it has his name on it.

I share Meso's irritation at the fact that it was Rocka who got the giant jet pack. Surge already had wings so I don't see why he couldn't have gotten the jet pack as an upgrade. Of course, we can always do that ourselves.

Hah, we noticed that, too. ^^ I guess he quickly wrote it on the jetpack before Dragon Bolt broke in.

Maybe it was designed for him, but kept in storage because clearly nobody wants Rocka to have nice things?

Anyhow, yeah, it could have been someone else (or better to have included someone else in the first wave), but it's still a pretty sweet jetpack, and you can realistically fit in most Heroes... although then they'd definitely fall over, without six friction joints in their legs =P
