vexorian Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 I'll be skeptic as long as the same source claims there will be TMNT sets. Quote
Vinyl Scratch Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 ... Hero Core-Krana? Me gusta. Mostly, could this mean potential undead-zombie-alien villains? If so then I am so freaking sold on this. But I'll wait for pictures for a final verdict. Quote
Mr. Gundam Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 Hold on, are you guys hinting at three different set releases base on the bone design from HF. That's awesome I wonder if TMNT will be like the Super-heroes Ultimate build? They'll be easy to make base on the new TV show, just re-release those Ben10 limbs in green with new molds. Has Speedorz been don't before? Sounds like a previous theme. The way its being explain hints at a robo-rider in the air. Hero Factory have mind control slugs?! Pretty cool, gonna cross my fingers for a purple hero Quote
DraikNova Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 While I've been wanting a purple hero from the release of the 2.0 system, I don't see the connection with the slugs. Anyway, I'm skeptical, and will be until we see pics. Quote
Gatanui Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 The interview with Kevin Hinkle in the latest episode of the BZPowercast also reveals why purple is never used in large quantities in sets. I'll reserve my judgement on this until actual pictures are released. This information, if true at all, is so vague that the sets could look like anything. -Gata Quote
Jouster Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 Sounds interesting, but I'll reserve further judgement for later on. Like, whenever I see pictures. Also, what's LAF? Kalhiki Uh...Lego Action Figures. Quote
DraikNova Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 It took me some time too to figure that out (see what I did there ). Quote

exxtrooper Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 The interview with Kevin Hinkle in the latest episode of the BZPowercast also reveals why purple is never used in large quantities in sets. -Gata And what is the reason? Quote
Gatanui Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 And what is the reason? Apparently the human eye is more sensitive to purple shades, so even slight discolourations which are unvoidable for any LEGO colour are far more glaring on purple pieces than on other colours. -Gata Quote
DraikNova Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 So that's why purple has that unique, bright quality. Quote
Chols Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 Apparently the human eye is more sensitive to purple shades, so even slight discolourations which are unvoidable for any LEGO colour are far more glaring on purple pieces than on other colours. -Gata Fascinating. Probably also explains why people complained so much about the change in primary purple color years back. :P Quote
Zarkan Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 Well, as the person who asked the purple question, I'm rather uncertain if I am satisfied with Kevin Hinkles answer. That fact about the human eye may be true, but as far as I'm concerned, the color variation with modern purple does not appear to be any more significant than that of any other color - and we all know whose fault it is modern Lego bricks have so much color inconsistency. Probably also explains why people complained so much about the change in primary purple color years back. :P You raise an interesting question, although I'm not sure if you realize it. For those of you who have large quantities of Onepu purple pieces, how consistent are they compared to other colors of bricks made during that era? Because I sure don't recall people complaining about them like they did with pieces in the newer shade. Quote
dviddy Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 and we all know whose fault it is modern Lego bricks have so much color inconsistency. Whose is that? If you're implying the poor Chinese quality thing again- you're wrong. The problem is that TLG uses more than 30 types of plastic, and it is just not possible to get them all dyed to be the same shades. Quote
DraikNova Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 I wonder if that also counts for trans-purple. I'll go see if the bucket full of trans-purple cones I bought has a noticeable difference in color. Quote

Well, you're incorect about my assumption, because personally, the Chineese-made lego parts don't look any poorer in quality to me than those produced in other countries. And for the record, I don't buy that TLC is unable to fix the color problem. I'm sure they could if they wanted to, but in order to cut down on costs, they've chosen production methods and materials that are not nearly as stable as what they used a decade ago. Quote

Agreed on the Chinese thing, it's just a really common and uneducated complaint from the AFOL community, so it seems like an easy thing to assume when someone says something like that. But actually, TLG has always had that problem with colours matching. It's actually one of the reasons for the grey to bley switch. Red especially is near impossible to match between the differing plastics. One of the reasons people maybe didn't notice as much a decade ago is because TLG did not have such a large part selection, which meant less plastic types (they do not use just two or three types, they use more than 30), and the lack of such a large Internet community also meant these things were less noticeable on a grand scale. When you were a kid and not online and a lime socket or two broke, you'd think it was your fault and probably just a limited thing. But with the Internet and the large part selection, we were able to discover it was actually a huge TLG problem. Also of interest, part sizes vary intensely as well, with the smallest variation of plates being stacked to a certain height versus the tallest variation, you actually lose an entire plate between the two. It's just the nature of plastic. Quote
Logan McOwen Posted September 9, 2012 Author Posted September 9, 2012 Hero Factory 2013 has slug brain creatures and apparently, Legends of Chima/Speedorz (I'm saying /Speedorz because someone said the fly wheel things in Chima are Speedorz which is confusing to me) is a new LAF theme. It has "here's Chima replacing Ninjago which is kinda like Avatar with humanoid animals, but there'll be fly wheel type things rather than spinners along with sets and Hero Factoryish figures,". All this info is from brickset (scroll down to see comment) Just so ya know, TLG refer to the HF system as CCBS (Creature and Character Building System) Quote
DraikNova Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 You know, I wonder how far you must go with the small plate vs big plate thing to get such a difference of an entire plate. Luckily, in real life, it balances itself out. Quote

It's just the nature of plastic. All of this may be true. BUT... it still doesn't justify why TLC can't even keep the colors consistent between two batches of the exact same part. Back a decade ago, you could be pretty much certain that every red two by two brick would match. Nowdays, you can't even be certain of that. Quote
dviddy Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 Except that a decade ago the colours -weren't- more consistent. In fact, they were less, as TLG didn't have set rules like they do now in place for how each plastic type gets dyed equalized to all their factories. Before the grey to bley switch, TLG did not have set standards in place, and each factory was allowed to set those themselves to get the colours they were supposed to get. Quote
DraikNova Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 Wow, this is getting pretty off topic. Quote

Cirvihi Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 Nothing else to talk about here. -Gata There's always what type of pieces the Winter line will have. I don't necessarily care what they look like, but I'm holding hope for two things: Hero Cores that have colors again, and that we actually receive the remolded Glatorian head. We're not kidding, LEGO, please look into it like you did with the Shadow Matoran feet. Quote
