DraikNova Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 That's the typical LEGO fan reaction in a nutshell. Quote
exxtrooper Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 A bit off-topic:LEGO fan reaction to novelties:Boring new sets, no new parts or parts in new colours. Sets are so junior-rised that one would think they were made for 6 year old kids. What a terrible colour for that part, surely the old colour used was better. Would not be surprised if LEGO discontinues the use of the old colour/part combination. What a terrible new part design, surely the old design was better. If they discontinue the old design, I will not be surprised. What are these novelties you speak of? What kind of sets are those anyway? Quote
DarkSurgeXL Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 (edited) There will be seven new HF setsin August. All continue the 'Brain Attack' theme. There appears to be three pairs of colour-coordinated good guys and bad guys, which are in pouches: Surge and Dargon Bolt are blue/yellow, Stormer and Frost Beast are white and turquoise, Evo and Aquagon are a different shade of blue, black and yellow. I suspect they have new heads and weapons, but I'm not an expert. The seventh, boxed, set, Jet Rocka is either half-man, half-aircraft, or a normal HF figure in a strap-on jet-pack/wing contraption. From Brickset. No new information, but now we have a slight confirmation, that Surge and Dragon Bolt use trans yellow cladding. Also, we are getting turquoise in HF! Vinyl Scratch Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 So that size 3 cladding piece in Frost Beast's shoulder is turquoise? That's very awesome. Can't wait until we see a clear shot of Aquagon, I want to see how much I'll like him. Quote

Can't wait until we see a clear shot of Aquagon, I want to see how much I'll like him. Note that the person who reported that probably has little knowledge on HF - "I'm not an expert" - so turquoise is probably just how he describes it, not the real colour. Trans-blue is probably it. Mesonak Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 My thoughts exactly; I'd be ecstatic if that was the case, but I doubt it heavily. :P Quote
Dorek Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 Well, we had the light(yes?)azure bones, so the color isn't out of the question, but I suspect trans blue. So wait, seven sets; Surge is up against Dragon Bolt, but needs Rocka to save the day? Hah. Quote
Shakar Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 The thing is, he said Evo and Aquagon used a "different shade of blue". And you don't need to know about HF to tell blue and turquoise apart. This doesn't surprise me entirely, since I had noticed Evo's and Stormer's visors had slightly different hues in the animated episode. I think Evo/Aquagon use the regular tr. blue (like Breakout Stringer), while Stormer/Frost Beast use this colour. It makes sense when you think that Stormer's flick missiles use Chima crystals, and those are indeed Trans-Light Blue. Either way, Summer is shaping up to be a MOCer heaven (these+Chima figures). Quote
Gatanui Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 (edited) I agree Frost Beast probably has that colour, but I think Evo and Aquagon will use trans-light blue (the one from the Glatorian heads) and not the trans-dark blue from Stringer. Stormer appears to have that one, at least in the video. -Gata Edited January 24, 2013 by Gatanui Quote
DraikNova Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 I'm going to start making a lot more larged-sized and special Heroes, thanks to the LoC grey Hulk chestplate and the assortment of parts in Jet Rocka. Anyway, I wonder if the reason they said a "different color of blue" was because of Frost Beast's brain slug, which I suspect will be azure. Quote
xxlrocka Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 Isn't it strange that in every wave Evo appears in, he has a new secondary colour? Like the first time he appeared it was purple, next red, now blue! Quote
Cahillrebel Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 Isn't it strange that in every wave Evo appears in, he has a new secondary colour? Like the first time he appeared it was purple, next red, now blue! Actually, it was just his eyes that were red. I think his secondary was gunmetal during Breakout. Quote
Aanchir Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 Well, we had the light(yes?)azure bones, so the color isn't out of the question, but I suspect trans blue. Medium Azure. But yeah, "Turquoise" makes me think Transparent Light Blue, like Shakar linked above. I'm going to start making a lot more larged-sized and special Heroes, thanks to the LoC grey Hulk chestplate and the assortment of parts in Jet Rocka. Anyway, I wonder if the reason they said a "different color of blue" was because of Frost Beast's brain slug, which I suspect will be azure. Brain slug will be Tr. Light Blue if anything, because all of the brain slugs so far have been transparent colors and I see no reason that would change for the summer sets. Because of the material and surface finish, they all look translucent rather than transparent, but they're certainly not an opaque color like azure. Refresher on terminology, because I see people getting confused about transparent/translucent/opaque a lot of the time. TRANSPARENT means it allows light straight through, like glass (any color; doesn't have to be clear). TRANSLUCENT means it allows light through, but scatters/diffuses it, like frosted glass. Brain slugs, Vahki eyes, etc. are all translucent (though the names for the individual colors are still Transparent Green, Transparent Light Blue, etc). OPAQUE means it doesn't allow light through. Most LEGO colors are opaque, though keep in mind that opaque plastic can still typically allow light through if it's thin enough-- hence why one hallmark of low-quality or defective LEGO pieces is translucency, even if the piece is ostensibly the same color as opaque parts. As far as I can tell, the brain slugs are these colors: Bruizer: Tr. Bright Orange Ogrum: Tr. Bright Green Scarox: Tr. Green Pyrox: Tr. Yellow Frost Beast: Tr. Light Blue Aquagon: Tr. Blue Dragon Bolt: Can't tell; if the Brainify app is comprehensive then he just re-uses a color that's already been released like Tr. Yellow. If not, I'd guess Tr. Fluore. Green (Trans-Neon Green). Quote
Cahillrebel Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 If he is Yellow and Blue, shouldn't he use Trans Yellow or Blue? Why Green? Quote
Aanchir Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 (edited) If he is Yellow and Blue, shouldn't he use Trans Yellow or Blue? Why Green? Because blue wouldn't have the same contrast as yellow, and Transparent Fluorescent Green is the closest thing to yellow that hasn't already been used (not counting long-discontinued colors like Tr. Fire Yellow and Tr. Fluorescent Yellow, which are certainly not to appear in any 2013 sets). To be honest, it's almost more yellowish than it is greenish. For the record, Transparent Fluorescent Green is Furno's usual eye color, also used in Speeda Demon, Toxic Reapa, and dozens of BIONICLE sets. Bricklink calls it Trans-Neon Green. I suppose he could use Transparent Fluorescent Blue (Bricklink's Trans-Medium Blue/Stormer's usual eye color), assuming that's not what Frost Beast uses, but really, THREE blue brain-slugs in one wave? Doesn't seem like it'd be a really wise decision. Edited January 24, 2013 by Aanchir Quote
Cahillrebel Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 Ok. Also, come to think of it, when we saw Dragon Bolt's face in the trailer for the new series, it looked like he had a blue slug. I remember seeing a lighter blue and the back of his head and legs aside from the dark blue of his head. Quote
Cirkit Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 I believe I saw a blue brain on the dragon as well.. I like the function of the weapons shown in the episode, like with Breez's blades folding, or Bulk's drill unfolding, or Rocka's blades coming out.. I swear, Furno looked like a Toa with his fire sword for a quick second there.. :D The episode ought to be good, whenever it comes out. I wonder if there will be any mention of Breez' unseen encounter with Thornraxx? Quote
Shakar Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 ^ That is the truth: Of course, show models aren't always 100% faithful to the sets, but changing the slug colours seems pointless. 3 different tr. blue shades exist and are still used to this day, so I think it'll go like this (I'll use Bricklink names): Dragon Bolt: Trans-Dark Blue (Breakout Stringer's torso shell) Frost Beast: Trans-Light Blue (Chi Crystals, Bionicle's Ehrye's eye colour, etc..) Aquagon: Trans-Medium Blue (Stormer's usual eye colour). I'm pretty sure about Frost Beast for the reasons I stated in a eariler post, Dragon Bolt and Aquagon can be switched. In the show they seem to use the same colour, so maybe they won't bother to recolour it for a large set like Dragon Bolt. Since Dragon Bolt is confirmed to use tr. yellow, I wonder if those Ninjago/Speeda Demon giant katana pieces on its wings are going to be recoloured? Gold would seem kinda tacky IMO. Quote
DraikNova Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 In the video Dragon Bolt's wings look gold to me. Anyway, since we had two green brain slugs this wave, I see no reason for next wave not to use several shades of blue brain slugs. Quote
Cahillrebel Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 Actually, the wings on Dragon Bolt are starting to look a bit yellow when you compare them with the yellow pieces on the main body. Quote
Stephan Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 (edited) I don't know if I like the way Dragon Bolts head is constructed, with that Technic L-beam in there. I think it's going to look a bit rough... Edited January 25, 2013 by Stephan Quote

Cahillrebel Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 I believe they put the L beams on each side of the new head and put the head piece on the front. The brain slug would go on the top as usual. Quote
Aethersprite Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 Agreed, the L beams really ruin the flow of the set. Hopefully they're easy to mod. Quote
Cahillrebel Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 They don't look that bad. They did that to add the teeth on the outside and have a jaw function. Quote
