I don't see the big deal. It's not all too visible and if it bothers you so much, replace it. Be glad we are getting a button at all. :P

Yes, BZP pics!

The red button pretty much follows the "red pins concept". Red is a bright, easy to notice colour, so that kids easily recognize the red piece as special, as having a specfic purpose.

Personally, I don't like it neither from an aesthetic POV nor a functionality POV (I grew up with black pins and such without problems), but it's Lego's decision.

I noticed Rocka's crotch isn't covered, like Furno XL- implying he uses a larger torso bone (a medium torso doesn't have enough holes to pull that off) and thus is pretty much Rocka XL 2. The Jet is going to be really big..

Dragon Bolt's missing some of the lightning pieces on the wings. :P

Don't mind the red button too much. Sure blue or yellow would look better, but at least we have something.

Still don't care about Rocka. The bare crotch doesn't help either especially with the large upper half.

yeah. seeing at Jet Rocka pictures again, i also noticed that. and also noticed some ball joint frictions in his leg. looks like Rocka really gone XL again, which means we get 2 XL hero sets this year. Furno in the winter, and Rocka in the summer. why Rocka again? he already got jet pack, there's no need for him to become XL again. there are some heroes who hasn't got a chance to become XL.

It's quite different from the red pins in that it's colored this way specifically so it stands out on the finished build, not during the building process. But I don't really have any problem with it. It can easily be interpreted as just an accent (like a BIONICLE character's heartlight), or as a Legend-of-Zelda-style weak point.

Color-coded emblems to call attention to functions are nothing new. Let's not forget how Kane-Ra had bright yellow arrow tiles on each of the shoulders. And this had been a feature of LEGO Space sets for over a decade even back then.

On a side note, having built Dragon Bolt on LDD (though I recently realized some minor errors I made, so I need to address those) one interesting feature of the set is that it has no red axles whatsoever.

And I never like the "I grew up with black pins and such without problems" mentality. Frankly, building comes naturally to some people and doesn't to others. Some people can easily pick out a 2M axle just by feeling for it in a bin of parts; others don't have the same tactile memory/intuition. I can remember at my 8th or 9th birthday party, my dad got a great bargain on some Throwbots sets and we distributed them as party favors. We built them during the party to have a disk-flinging competition. And let me tell you, it was an ordeal. Some of the kids there had never built with LEGO Technic before, and struggled to even interpret the instructions correctly.

I think that (along with unpleasant memories of back when I sorted my parts by color rather than shape, and for a while with all Technic parts in one big bin, often digging for several minutes just to find those rare black pin/axles) is a big part of why I've never had a problem with the color-coding of LEGO Technic elements. A few small spots of color on a model seem like a more than acceptable sacrifice for making the building experience accessible to more than just those who are naturally-inclined towards reading pictorial instructions and building from them.

I'm going to replace that red button with the same piece in tr. blue, a piece-color combo I previously though to be useless.

Rocka looks so much better. A lot less topheavy, for one thing.

Yeah, Rocka is growing on me a lot, it only needs some very minor mods. The Jet (jetpack, I guess) looks massive.

I really like how Dragon's back is built, it's cool to see the Savage Planet spine piece back. Is the red button on his back this piece, by the way?

That's a good point Aanchir. I've been playing with Lego almost since I was born (I had my first set at 2, no kidding!), so I guess it's hard for me to put myself in the shoes of more casual builders.

Haha, eat your words, Rocka naysayers!

No but seriously, I think he'll be a good set. I'm curious as to what other connection points they use to keep him in the jet, besides his hands (also I'm still drooling over the wing trigger; I had a feeling it would happen and IT DID and I'm so stoked), and whether or not other Heroes can fit in it. What with the friction joints, I imagine it's still a bit of heavy equipment =P

It will probably use two black Technic pin pieces or this piece: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=87082 but the bigger version of it. (The one with four pins and two pin holes)

I noticed today that what seems to be part 1 of the Brain Attack TV episode was uploaded on YouTube. Unfortunately, it is in Korean. Here's the link:

I noticed a few things from the episode

1- Breez is in her 2.0 form, which means that she never got her Breakout upgrade.

2- The mastermind behind the brain slugs doesn't seem to be Von Nebula.

Yeah.....we've talked about that WEEKS ago......

Dragon Bolt seems to have a very complex build. I can't seem to work anything out!

I'm now interested to see what ideas there are for the Surge combiner. And what they will do with Jet Rocka.

Posted

sorry if my question seems outdated, but its bugging me.

about the summer sets combiner:

Stormer + Frost Beast

Evo + Aquagon

Jet Rocka + Dragon Bolt

Surge + ???

is Surge the only hero who didn't get a combiner?

I think Dragon Bolt combines with Surge, not Jet Rocka. Color scheme would suggest that anyway.

Jet Rocka may not combine with another set, though it'd be interesting if (being such a big set) he got an alternate model using only his own set's piecea, much like Technic and Creator sets (or large BIONICLE sets from 2001-2002).

oh, i see. thanks for the answer. i thought Dragon Bolt would be combined with Jet Rocka, because in the webisode, the one who's facing Dragon Bolt is Jet Rocka.

Does anyone else want to know what the combiners will be? We got hero combiners for the first wave so maybe villain combiners for the second wave? I would love to see an upgraded Dragon Bolt type of combiner and see how big it is using Surge and Bolt.

Posted

I hope it's all Heroes, going by 1st wave they added villain weapons to the hero's frame.

I assume stormer will have bigger sword thanks to ice beast.

Evo could have a dual function for swimming, like Nuva had.

I guess surge gonna have an awesome backpack to fly with
