xxlrocka Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 I want to see Furno XL with Brain Attack Rocka's head, and then Pyrox with Scarox's head. Also, Rocka with Furno XL's head (If possible) and Scarox with Pyrox's head (If also possible) and I want it because I want it. Quote
DraikNova Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 Smart mod to the torso build. I might try that myself. Quote
Shakar Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 (edited) No problem; I didn't make a lot of changes, though. Just a few color alterations. XL Skeleton (I took Surge XL apart directly after taking the pictures, hence why this is Furno. ) Thanks! So you put that bone on the crotch area just to fill it, pretty clever- too bad my mod already uses the crotch ball joint for something else. Nice idea about the cape, too. Finally, you replaced all the bley bones with black ones: personally, I don't do it to large sized figures (that includes XL Heroes) since there always are the dark bley friction joints anyway, but I do like my standard size Heroes with fully black skeletons (except cases where non-black bones work, like Stringer for obvious reasons, Breakout Breez and Breakout Nex). Here you go. Sorry about the quality http://www.brickshel...stormer_001.jpg http://www.brickshel...stormer_002.jpg That's perfect, thanks. The Scarox head is just the right size for my MOC idea. Also, Rocka with Furno XL's head (If possible) and Scarox with Pyrox's head (If also possible) and I want it because I want it. I'd love to do this, but my BA Rocka is destroyed ATM. And Furno XL is sort of..unrecognizable. Edited February 16, 2013 by Shakar Quote

I sometimes like when I can have a bit of variety in skeleton colors. Alternating beam colors, as long as they're either neutral colors or colors used elsewhere in the model's color scheme, in my opinion add a great deal of visual interest. Sometimes I even try to coordinate bone colors to the shell colors over top of them, like I did on Kit Martello, if I want to emphasize the organization of the color scheme and tone down the emphasis created by exposed knee and elbow joints (a red shell and a red bone flow together visually). One thing I kind of wish is that torso beams came in more of the common beam colors like Medium Stone Grey, Bright Red, and perhaps even Bright Yellowish Green. This isn't to say that I want fewer black torso beams, but considering some of the colors we've seen in torso beams such as Dark Red and Bright Orange, I think these more common Hero Factory shell and beam colors would have a lot more versatility. Shakar Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 (edited) I like all-black skeletons on Heroes, but I too like to play around with bone colours with non-Hero characters: for example, my Splitface's skeleton is black on the mechanical (t. metallic) side and dark bley on the technorganic (red) side. Dark bley just looks more "organic" to me, I must have been influenced by the grey muscle-like bits the characters had in the first 3 Bionicle movies. Black feels more "out of factory" to me, which suits robots more. I gave in and watched most of the Brain Attack episode on YT (in Korean). Is it just me or some of the characters look prototype-like? Some of these things have already been noticed, but: Surge's visor clearly isn't printed, his secondary colour really looks like tr. yellow and his weapon is built slightly differently, Bulk's shield is silver and has a motif, Stormer's visor isn't printed either, his flick missiles use Chima crystals and his sword is tr. blue, Dragon Bolt's brain is blue and his tail is longer. Some of these can be justified as the usual set to show changes (glowing cores, back armour, etc..), like Dragon Bolt's tail, but I don't see the point of removing visor printing or changing colour schemes. I think the Breakout episode had some traces of this too, for example Surge's lightning was yellowish green instead of blue, just like the prototype. Oh, and Breez's Korean voice is hot. wghost Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 (edited) Stormer's visor isn't printed either Nope, it's printed - it has the same as motif as Furno XL in tr. light blue. Edited February 16, 2013 by wghost Quote
Takanuinuva Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 For me when it comes to skeleton colors for certain heroes. I would have it like this Furno- Black bones Stormer- Dark Bley bones Surge- Light Bley bones Breez- Black bones Stringer- Dark Bley Bones Bulk- Black bones Nex- Light Bley Bones Evo- Dark Bley Bones Rocka- Light Bley Bones Quote
Bfahome Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 So I got Rocka, and he's pretty good. I was going to get Breez, but then changed my mind because of Rocka's accessories. He's kinda plain, though nothing a few simple modifications can't fix. Quote
Shakar Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 (edited) Nope, it's printed - it has the same as motif as Furno XL in tr. light blue. Oh yeah, you're right. Still it's weird for him to have another set's printing like that. Really screams "prototype" to me. So I got Rocka, and he's pretty good. I was going to get Breez, but then changed my mind because of Rocka's accessories. He's kinda plain, though nothing a few simple modifications can't fix. That's the the problem I have with most Heroes this year, and I finally figured out why. The limbs are about as nice looking as those of the Breakout Heroes, and the helmets with visors are awesome. It's the torso for me. The core clamps are a neat idea, and I do like the armour motif, but the colour scheme makes it fairly boring to me. Maybe if it featured more of the Hero's main colour and/or if it had transparent parts (like the viking horns, or a protective bubble/cockpit for the Core) it would have looked more exciting.. Bfahome Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 Yeah, I think if it was like the 2.0-3.0 setup with a new over-torso piece with the clips then it'd be better. Quote
xxlrocka Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 So I had Breez a couple days ago. She looks good, and I'm happy that you can separate her Bow Staff into 2 separate blade things and her shield attaches to her back. She has a good design and she doesn't have horrible weapons, look too bland or have a weird looking helmet like the other heroes in the winter wave. Overall, I recommend buying her. Now, next on my list is Rocka and Scarox. (Still! The Breez thing was really a pleasant surprise.) Quote
Logan McOwen Posted February 17, 2013 Author Posted February 17, 2013 I prefer black skeletons, but I'd prefer exposed bones to be coloured - like the yellow ones on Aquagon. Quote
Devorath Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 I prefer black skeletons, but I'd prefer exposed bones to be coloured - like the yellow ones on Aquagon. Or bones with the shortest shell size connected. Quote
ToaJaller78 Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 Nope, it's printed - it has the same as motif as Furno XL in tr. light blue. ACTUALLY On the final set it looks MUCH different. Quote
Shakar Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 That's it: we were talking about how Stormer looked slightly different in the show compared to the set (and he isn't the only one either). The visor design being one of the most notable differences. Quote
howie28 Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 (edited) Yes, all three printed visors are totally different. My favourite would have to be Stormers because, well, it's blue, and blue is my favourite colour. EDIT: Actually, I think the best colour would be a trans purple visor, because we don't get enough purple. Edited February 17, 2013 by howie28 Quote
xxlrocka Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 I just found out it just so happens that Stormer, Surge and Furno XL all have printed visors and the new shield/jetpack-wing-thingy piece. I guess it's just a coincidence, but this all seems pretty strange. Quote
Aanchir Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 (edited) I just found out it just so happens that Stormer, Surge and Furno XL all have printed visors and the new shield/jetpack-wing-thingy piece. I guess it's just a coincidence, but this all seems pretty strange. Well, what the three have in common is that they are all large/XL heroes instead of small ($9.99) heroes. So I wouldn't be surprised if the decision to use printed visors for those three was related to this. The shield might also be related, but it seems a bit more unusual since the other sets use shields that are at least as costly in terms of volume of plastic, and I can't imagine the mold being less efficient since it's a newer mold than either of the other shield variants. Perhaps rather than a matter of cost specifically, it was decided that the "deluxe" sets should have characteristics tying them together in this way. Anyway, check out this picture that Hopey snapped at LEGO World in Copenhagen! The models on the right (including Raw Jaw) are purist, the models on the left are the same but with many painted parts. The top right and top right model are a stellar expression of the building system: all of Witch Doctor's complexity but a far more cohesive style. By the way, these seem to be created by actual designers, and I think the head sculpt is a prototype of Core Hunter's (if I'm remembering the pictures from the Toy Fair 2012 press kit correctly-- I don't have them on my computer). EDIT: Another image by Flickr user Teabox. That does not in fact look to be a prototype Core Hunter mask on closer inspection. Hmmm... EDIT 2: More images from LekGodt.no. Plus a prototype Black Phantom if that interests you. Note the painted parts on the left leg, the same sort that made everyone hate the preliminary Black Phantom when Breakout pics were first leaking in 2011. EDIT 3: Søren Westborg painted the recolored versions. He mentions that "his friend Brian" works as a designer for LEGO, meaning the original builder might be Hero Factory designer Brian Nielsen. Jetrax99 Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 Indeed. That's one very interesting mask/helmet/head. Perhaps a possible upcoming piece? Quote
DraikNova Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 EDIT: Actually, I think the best colour would be a trans purple visor, because we don't get enough purple. I´m going to stay away from this discussion. Last time I found tr. purple I bought 431 pieces for a euro. Anyway, that big silver/black creation looks awesome. Now that´s the sort of thing I´d like to see as an (exclusive?) AFOL-targeted set. You´d think LEGO would want to expand the market to the adult fanbase as well. Making special AFOL-targeted sets would be one way to do that without reducing the target demographic for the series in general. Quote
Aanchir Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 (edited) Indeed. That's one very interesting mask/helmet/head. Perhaps a possible upcoming piece? I'm back to thinking it might be a prototype Core Hunter helmet. But I can't verify since I don't have the pics from the Toy Fair 2012 press guide with me. And yeah, I'd love for that model to be a set. Even if it weren't economically feasible to make it a set for regular production, I would support a LEGO Cuusoo project of this thing in a heartbeat. It's the best model-- the absolute best-- that I've ever seen work almost entirely within the LEGO Hero Factory building system. Edited February 17, 2013 by Aanchir Quote
Kalhiki Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 That model is fantastic. I honestly couldn't tell it was made from HF parts at first. And the painted version looks even better. I like the head, too. Glad it wasn't used for Core Hunter, but I would like to see it on a future set. Kalhiki Quote
Cahillrebel Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 It looks like a prototype of some Hero Factory titan they were/are making. It looks amazing compared to the other we have had and the head is great too. Quote
Dorek Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 It isn't the prototype Core Hunter helmet, at least, not the one from the Toyfair press kit. Quote
Aanchir Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 It isn't the prototype Core Hunter helmet, at least, not the one from the Toyfair press kit. OK, I couldn't recall. Makes me wonder what it is, then. A piece from another prototype or upcoming set, or something created for this very model? Quote
