Posted February 14, 201312 yr I must be getting old and my willpower must be fading because I've just purchased the plan for this diesel........ What appeals to me is that it is very similar to the 'Di' Class diesel locos that were mainly used on branchlines and secondary lines here in New Zealand. Steam is still very much my thing, only I needed a loco that could undertake transfer jobs between the heritage steam railway and the modern day railway line that represents the rest of the NZGR. Operationally speaking the steam locos aren't allowed to stray onto the government railway lines unless they have a special permit to do so such as when an enthusiast special train might be run. Soooooo that's why I need this diesel since the heritage railway will have no overhead electrical lines which means that the modern electric locos can't operate over their tracks.
February 14, 201312 yr Author Interesting. It reminds me of the British Railways Classes 15 and 16. True enough. This is what the 'Di' Class looked like......... Not a complete match for the plan, but close enough for me to fettle it a bit so it will look the part. I travelled on an enthusiast's special hauled by one of these locos on the last passenger train journey on the Thames branch. The driver told me that the 'Di' class were quite light on their feet, but with having six powered axles some drivers tried to make them do the work of the heavier 'Da' class which they were never intended to do. Interestingly two of the class were withdrawn due to severe engine failure ( one threw a rod, I'm not sure what happened to the other one), - so it seemed the poor things did tend to get thrashed. One made it to preservation, one was written off in a level crossing accident and the rest finished their days on shunting duties,

February 14, 201312 yr I do so much prefer diesels to electrics for a modelling project as they can then run around any line regardless of whether you have overhead cables or not.
February 15, 201312 yr Hi there, This is a great build. I signed up to Brickshelf but unfortunately cannot access the design.
February 15, 201312 yr Author I would also like to have the design, it's the best diesel MOC I've seen! Unfortunately I don't think I can pass on my .lxf file due to it being a pirated copy. Perhaps if you could contact Michael Irvine directly he might be willing to pass on a genuine copy to you. By the way I think your avatar is absolutely hilarious.

As far as I'm concerned you are the owner of that LXF file - you acted in good faith so there isn't a problem for me. In fact, I'm still getting to grips with this forum so if you want to pass it on then it might save me causing havoc by doing things improperly :)
February 15, 201312 yr I would like the LXF if you can email me. Be keen to build it. Even if you just send the parts list and HTML manual.

It only needs to be 08 long, just trim the 09 a little. The only reason I do this because there are more 75c09 on bricklink. Anything longer than the 08 will do, just trim to fit.
February 16, 201312 yr Here is the .lxf file for the diesel locomotive. Thanks for giving me permission to pass it on Thanks Locomotive Annie for sharing the file! Congrats also to Pickyourownbogie for this great work. I always like to look through someone else's design to get the creative juices flowing. Maybe I can pick up some ideas I can apply (My area of interest is mostly contemporary North American freight). Dan-147 Edited February 16, 201312 yr by Dan-147
February 16, 201312 yr Author That's quite alright, - more than happy to help out. I just wanted to make sure Michael was Ok with it.
February 16, 201312 yr Hmmm. I cannot find Earth Blue and Earth Green are not on Bricklink? Any other suggestions?
February 16, 201312 yr Hmmm. I cannot find Earth Blue and Earth Green are not on Bricklink? Any other suggestions? those are renamed to Dark green and dark blue
February 16, 201312 yr I also looked into it to build it in dark green but then it will be way above my budget
February 16, 201312 yr those are renamed to Dark green and dark blue Thanks. Pick a Brick has not caught onto this convention so i was a little confused. Edited February 18, 201312 yr by K-Style
February 16, 201312 yr Looks like the 15 came out in Railfreight one of my fave paint jobs. Put though a few changes still trying to work out how to change one of the bogies to a 9v motor but i dont think it will go in without killing those really nice boggies. Might need to put the motor in a wagon to push it along. Edited February 16, 201312 yr by Lazarus
February 17, 201312 yr Heads up just start pricing it, it going to cost quite a bit to make i can get 900 parts from one of my normal guys and already upto 100nz see this costing maybe 200nz So i think i am out would be nice but could put that cash else where into more tack and ballast
