mortesv Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 The model is fine. But it could be better - thus needs modding Using tiles on the nose as Anio points out seems like an obvious choice. Larger engine intakes as Cavegod mentions should also be achievable. It seem the designers has a policy against correct sized engines - the 7191 had the same problem In all the movie shots I have found it is obvious that the 10240 engines are way too small at 4 studs width. Instead of jumping to a 6 stud diameter - which would be too big, there are plenty of existing wheel elements that approximates the diameter much better. Quote
Darth Wayne Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 I can actually understand BOTH sides here concerning Re-issues: On the one hand it's true that everyone should have the right and possibility to acquire a UCS set of their favorite ship. Hell, i myself will be profiting as i came out of my dark ages not even a year ago, so i will GLADLY get this model and finally own a UCS X-Wing!! On the other hand though, i can see that this kind of defeats the purpose of these UCS sets for collectors since it destroys that "Holy Grail" status that some sets can get like the UCS Falcon etc. It breaks the MYTH! HJR-Holland Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 I'm just glad the X-wing canopy will finally be more afforable again! Quote
CopMike Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 I'm just glad the X-wing canopy will finally be more afforable again! Well the 7191 canopy is 12 x 6 x 2, this one is 13 x 6 x 2. So it´s not the same part. Quote
Anio Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 (edited) Using tiles on the nose as Anio points out seems like an obvious choice. With tiles, the 2x6 wedges would not be maintained enough. If a 2x3 tile existed, it would have done the job with a 1x3 tile. But 3 1x3 tiles would not be very strong. The best thing would have been a 3x3 tile of course. Larger engine intakes as Cavegod mentions should also be achievable. It seem the designers has a policy against correct sized engines - the 7191 had the same problem They are maybe too small. But a designer also has to keep the build simple. 5L wide is pretty much out of the system, mainly because it is an odd width (edit : well, technically speaking, it would be in the system, but it wouldn't be convenient to build with) For example, with such an engine, the half cylinder could not be used anymore. 4L wide engines appear to be the best choice to me. Nachapon Lego Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Thanks for comments for the previous rendering. 6 X-wings rendered at once to compare the size. Original (4096 x 3072) Lego UCS X-wing compare _7191 LDD by ADHO15 by Nachapon S., on Flickr Quote
Esurient Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 WOW. Great to see UCS X-Wing again! I am totally getting this UCS! I am not missing out on any UCS again! Quote
The Chosen 1 Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 Where's Fallenangel when I need him? Quote
legotrader Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 Great job on this set. I love it and would like to have a fleet of them hanging from my ceiling :) Quote
DarthBrickus Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 (edited) I dont know if anyone asked this yet: Anybody know what's up with the stripes on the wingtip-lasers? Not really a problem, and easily fixable, but weird nonetheless. Edit: I just found these scale models: Never seen those in the trilogies though i may be just blind or forgetful? Commander_Rob Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 They aren't very noticeable in the movies, they look more washed-out and might not be present on all X-Wings either, I'm not entirely sure. Quote
Aeroeza Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 They aren't very noticeable in the movies, they look more washed-out and might not be present on all X-Wings either... Completely correct! Quote
bjorn77 Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 My number one (and actually only) issue is that the engines are way too small. They were too small on the first UCS model a swell, but then they where at least in scale with the exhausts (which were also too small). Now the exhaust part has the correct size compared to the real model, but they have the same dimension as the puny engines :( Quote
joopsta Posted April 20, 2013 Posted April 20, 2013 On the dutch Lego website the UCS X wing is priced at 229.99 euro! As much as I want to have this, this is way too much. Especially when it's 200 USD in the States. 230 euros is 300 dollar!!!!! Quote
howie28 Posted April 20, 2013 Posted April 20, 2013 Wow, I'm surprised. It's actually cheaper on the Australian site. Quote
rickysheu Posted April 20, 2013 Posted April 20, 2013 Wow, I'm surprised. It's actually cheaper on the Australian site. Is it? I saw it is 279.99 AUD on LEGO website.......so expensive....... Quote
DarthBrickus Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 it seems to be 199.99€ in S@H Germany: http://search2.lego.com/?q=10240〈=2057&cc=DE Quote

Especially when it's 200 USD in the States. 230 euros is 300 dollar!!!!! The difference is partly caused by the absence of sales tax on the American version, and 21% on the Dutch version. Still, €229 is way too expensive. Quote
santos. Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 I've never ordered an exclusive set on release day from Lego. Can anyone give me a heads up about what I should expect? Thanks! Quote
Faefrost Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 This one is really growing on me. I'm still debating between this one or R2D2 as my first UCS type set, But I am really liking this one. Is the cockpit printed? Has anyone worked out scale on this one? I would love to take one of those Kenner/Hasbro figs and replace the head with a Lego one to seat a pilot? May 4th between IN3 and new X Wing will be a very busy day,(must get Wife Drunk while watching Tony Stark, this was Lego smuggling succwwds, Woot!) Quote
howie28 Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 I believe the cockpit is stickered, unfortunately. I don't have a suggestion for you between this and 10225, but R2-D2 is a great set. Quote
Alternator Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 (edited) I'll be lining up to get this one - it is a bit more pricey than I would like at $400 NZD but I think it will be worth it. It'll be interesting to see it's scale next to the 9493 X Wing Just on a personal note if I had to pick one of the UCS sets for a re-release/update though it would be the 10030 Star Destroyer But then I would probably also go for the hoth speeder (I have fond memories of that toy when I was child), and also the Tantive IV (I was fortunate enough to grab a Falcon before the after market price hike kicked in). DoctorKairam Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 Cool set. I might get the X-Wing fighter down the road. Quote
