Yoou've got to go with the Fire Brigade first. As already been stated it will probably be the first to dissapear, so that is one reason alone for getting it first.

If you are planning on getting many modulars, you will kick yourself in future if you don't get this before it dissapears and you pay high price on the secondary market a year or so down the line.

Another reason for getting the fire brigade is it is a good one to start with, before the newer building techniques are introduced in the latest models plus it is a great build and has play ability also.

I wish, as soon as I get my tax refund I'm going shopping for a CC. Not sure if I'm going to go original or build it from pieces on Brick Link yet. I paid 1200 last year for my Green Grocer and Market Square which I thought was a good deal (loose, complete with all original parts).

Just be careful with the lot number of the Fire Brigades. There was a bad batch about 2 years ago which is why it's still around. Lego had to ship out so many replacement parts that they ended up doing another entire run. So a lot of folks may not even know they are sitting on a FB set that's missing an entire bag or two of parts.

Thanks for all the reply's! Well Friday night, around 11 o'clock, I snapped and bought Town Hall. Although it is fairly new, I'm happy with it and can't wait for it to come.

Great! Have fun with the TH. Keep you credit card handy, if you are like many of us with modulars "you can't have just one"

I built the CC and GG fom Bricklink. I had to substitute a few parts, but they look nice anyway. Built the GE, still have the PS, FB and TH in boxes (I really need to get to them). Can't decide on MS as I have too many other projects going on right now, including making more display space.

Great choice. I'm sure you won't be dissappointed. The Town Hall has the best interior to date in my opinion.

I haven't built that one yet, I hope you enjoy the modular series just as much as I do. My personal favorite is the Green Grocer. I was very lucky when I bought that one, because it was already discontinued and I came across a Lego enthousiast who sold it for a great price.

As for the other modulars: at first I didn't like the Firebrigade, but is a nice build and I like it a lot now, every modular building appeals to me. The one that stands out from the ones you noticed was the GE, although I don't exactly now why.

My favourite one amongst the ones mentionned is the Grand Emprorium, Fire Brigade comes as a close second. I have to admit that I was not very found of the Pet shop even though it added some diversity.

When making my judgements, I am mostly looking at the color scheme of the sets.

Congrats on your first modular, you will like that, though it wasn't my first purchase, it was the first I opened and built.

I still think that 10185 Green Grocer is the best Modular Building just for the great detailing. Although 10182 Café Corner is still my favorite!

I have my first modular...The Fire Brigade...on it's way!! Can't wait!

You are going to enjoy it! The one thing I'd suggest though is avoid re-reading any reviews, or checking out pictures of the FB online until after your build is complete. That way you don't spoil the surprises!

Now they got me, too.

The Fire Brigade is on offer on amazon.de marketplace for 135€ (one left now, so be quick if you want it), so I just placed an order. I'm curious as to what it will be like, and figured, if I didn't like it I can propably sell it for pretty much the same price later on... :)

And if I should like it (and I highly suspect so), it's a good place to start since apparently it'll be the first one of those currently available to be discontinued, especially considering I don't like the overall look of Grand Emporium very much.

Agree! The best two modulars are the first two! Ironically, IMO the order of the best modular to the worst(exclude MS) is: GG>CC>FB>GE>PS>TH>PC, which is exactly the same as the order(except GG/CC) of their release dates. Edited by vader11

I have just bought GE at lego shop £132.99 and the FB at the lego shop £99.99. Absolutely love them. Is it just me or do you usually end up with a few if the tiny bits left. Both ones have had leftovers, extra flowers/headlights on fire truck ect?

Well, I will only buy one modular. So, that means I only have one choice. Grand Emporium is the one I am thinking... But I guess you guys can help? :sceptic:

I just bought Grand Emporium as my first modular. I prefer open-backed City buildings, so I'm not sure if it will stay assembled once I find time to build it, but even as a parts pack it is a great value... so many windows! Since Grand Emporium and Fire Brigade are likely to retire first, my choice was limited to those two. I like the looks of the Fire Brigade more, but my LEGO City already has too many firemen, and didn't have a department store so that decided it for me.

I have all of them (except the cinema, haven't gotten around to buying it yet), including the Market Street. If you are going to want to get them all (and you will once you put one together and see how cool it looks sitting on your shelf, and they only look cooler as you add more and more of them), I agree with everyone else: get the oldest first.

If you are only going to get one, just pick one. You can't go wrong with any of them. They all have their own unique charms.Though, I think amazon had the town hall at 10% off, at least in the US.

There should be pictoral reviews of all of them that you could peruse to help your decision.

The Pet Shop is a really weird set to me. It doesn’t really sell itself very well, but after having the set for a few months now it has really grown on me.

The very best Modular is the Green Grocer, and I feel that the Pet Shop has a lot of similar details.

Since with my new house I'll finally have the space for a proper city, I'm also in the market fir a modular set. To wrap things up, from all I read I guess the practical choice would be to get first the Fire House and/or Gran Emporium?

I think I have a good line on a Fire House so that will probably be my first.

Not sure how good my opinion is given the fact I don't own any modulars personally, but I can name some benefits from all of them

GE: Lovely facade and gorgeous microbuilds throughout (From the interior to the billboard on the roof), plus some lovely prints on the minifigs.

FB: Again, great facade and the fire engine looks decent enough.

TH: Interesting build techniques and the elevator play feature is nicely done.

PS: A two-for-one special (Townhouse and the eponymous pet shop). A residential modular compared to the others.

Palace: Very ornate and has that old Hollywood charm, but the limo is a little dinky,

I say go for the Emporium or the Pet Shop personally.

I'm confused, I only have room for 1 modular this year. I crossed out the Pet Shop because it looked to strange compared to the others. I have the Grand Emporium and I have a fire station so I don't need the Fire Brigade. My guess is the Town Hall and Palace Cinema. The PC looked better but I'm hypnotized to admire TH. Please help.

I would suggest TH this year and PC next year or as soon as possible.

They both look great though if I had to choose now I'd go for TH (I have both of them but PC is still waiting to be assembled). It is the biggest modular so far and somehow stands out, it really looks like the most prominent building in the city. Besides it has lots of useful bricks for MOCing if you ever decide to take it apart.
