J.V.D. Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 (edited) As many stated before, the most logical would be to buy first the fire brigade. Specially if you want to have them all. Since probably it's the first of the actuals to be retired, this way you will avoid as much as possible the higher aftermarket prices.. However, me I got the petshop first. I wasn't, and am still not sure yet if I will continue to try to get the complete line, and somehow the petshop seems to be the most versatile of them all. Since it isn't that specific as the other ones, its easier to use it for other lines in case you decide not to continue with other modulars afterall. ( you can easily give the petshop another function by changing its sign, if you like to do so). Also the way you can split it up in 2 I also see as a big advantage of it. My 2nd choice would be the Green Grocer. For pretty much the same reason.. it's versatility. Pitty I came to late for that one, and the actual prices are beyond my budget. Captain Coconut Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 The red-brick front on the Fire Brigade is awesome, it provides a great historic-style building to the set. If I was only buying one, and knew they would all be discontinued tomorrow, I'd get either the Fire Brigade or the Town Hall, with the Grand Emporium as a third choice if those weren't available. If you eventually want to buy a few more, I think you'd most regret missing out on the Fire Brigade. The idea of a fire station didn't really appeal to me much either at first, but it's probably got more character than the others, due to the red-brick front. The town hall seems like the obvious king of what's available, but the price counter-balances that. It all depends on your budget. Quote
Lionweaver Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 My interest in the modulars have grown beyond the point of no return, however I'm still on the fence on which one should be my first. :) Logic would suggest the Fire Brigade as it is indeed likely to be discontinued sooner than later. But the thing is, it's the least appealing set for me, nor do I like the Pets Shop much to be honest. If all the sets would still be available, I'd buy Green Grocer first, which I think is absolutely fantastic, then Town Hall and Grand Emporium, and then the rest. Fire Brigade would probably be last on the list. I don't think I'll be able to get all of them anyway, so maybe I'm not too bugged about missing out on one (at a decent price) when it's discontinued. So I'm thinking about getting either Grand Emporium or Town Hall as my first. Quote
shaggysanchez Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 While I know that this is by no means any type of definite sign that it is about to go but a few weeks ago I was in my local Lego store and was looking to pick up an extra Fire Brigade since I knew it would most likely be retiring sooner than later. When I could not find any on the shelves I asked the manager who I have built up a pretty good relationship with and he informed me they were out and would not be getting anymore back in. I had him order one for me so that I could get one and I am glad I did as I have not seen it in stock at the store since that day. The Fire Brigade is my favorite modular so I would obviously recommend it to anyone trying to decide which modular to buy. Not only is it a great build and great looking building when completed it is also an excellent parts pack for the price. Also to anyone on the fence about the Fire Brigade before I bought it I was not that impressed with it at all but after getting it I loved it. Quote
Sah Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 Hey guys. I'm a LEGO fan from years back looking to rekindle my passion. To start off, I want to buy a modular building in two weeks but just can't decide! I'm looking towards Palace Cinema, Town Hall or Emporium. I'm more of a detail fan but I also like high piece counts. Can someone suggest which of these three would be best for me? Quote
Zeahl Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 I'd suggest the Emporium, Seeing as that's the oldest of those three and will probably be harder to get in the future, while you still have some time left to get the other two if you liked building the first one. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 I personally love the Grand Emporium. Some people find it monotonous, but I liked the aesthetic of it. The tan and dark green combo worked really well. Plus, it is the oldest, so I think it is getting discontinued this year?? Quote
Bighappysmiles Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 I'd suggest the Fire Brigade, to be honest. It is only still available because of missing pieces and stuff a couple years ago and it will be gone soon. If you let one go you will be dissapointed, trust me. If you really despise the FB for some reason, I would than suggest the Emporium for the same reason as the latter Quote
Pop Bumper Pete Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 The cinema makes a good second building IMHO it needs more people Quote

polarscribe Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 (edited) The Town Hall is on Amazon.com for only ~$177. Given the higher piece count than other modulars, at the Amazon price it's a darn good deal right now. I just picked one up so I'm kind of biased, but I'd go for it if I was you ;) Edited May 18, 2013 by polarscribe Quote
