L-DI-EGO Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 Hello! Maybe someone remembers that digital Invisible Hand MOC I made a year ago. I still made some digital MOCs in my free time. This time I have made a digital MOC based on the Nebulon-B escort frigate. It was a ship I always wanted to see released as an official set. Sadly, TLG have focused more on unknown Clone Wars vehicles in the last years. But knowing the inaccuracies the hypothetical official set would probably have, I decided to design my own version. I want this model looks closer to a real set than a MOC, so I have included some features for minifigures to make use of the internal space. It contains a small surgery suite, a bacta tank, the cockpit, and there was even space for a small Hoth rebel carrier. I have also made a small Millennium Falcon for size comparison, like some UCS sets. I hope you like it. Otherwise, write your discrepancies in the comments. Brickshelf folder Quote
Cerlin Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 (edited) Fantastic MOC, I really like your LEGO version of the Nebulon B! It looks totally feasible as an official UCS set. I'd love to see LEGO make this set for real, it would be a lot of fun to build, with no repetitions and lots of possible techniques. However, there are two problems, which might have to do with why LEGO hasn't released a UCS Nebulon B yet: It is quite unswooshable, and due to the design of the Nebulon B, I imagine the model would be fragile as well. Pick it up without supporting the right parts with your hands, and it would fall apart. Is your MOC stable enough to be picked up? Does it have to be held a certain way? I still hope they get around to making one. Edit: I just realized, it's an LDD MOC, stupid me So we wouldn't know how fragile it is, right? Edited February 21, 2013 by Cerlin Quote
tchuk-norst Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Is your MOC stable enough to be picked up? Does it have to be held a certain way? I bet a good interior skeleton of the "thin area" would make it rather sturdy. I think it's a great looking ship, and, I believe it is on Cuusoo? Quote
krispy Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Sadly, TLG have focused more on unknown Clone Wars vehicles in the last years. I know, right? I hope you like it. I really do! To me it looks absolutely bang on (and I've blown up quite a bunch of these in my Imperial pilot days ). I might also nick your stand idea for my B-Wing; it's about the same size, but this one looks so much more elegant. My only gripe: upload some larger renders and include the link to the Cuusoo page so we can support? Quote
psantosg Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Incredible MOC, very accurate, How many pieces does it have? I wish i would have the instructions.... Quote
Haderach Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Amazing job! One minor comment from a guythat could never build something this amazing (meaning I don't want to come off as critical). I think it would look more "UCS" or like LEGO produced it if the left hand portion of the "stand" was gone and it somehow used the ship to support the left side. Quote
Wedge09 Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 I love your Nebulon-B full of details, supporting Quote
Bob De Quatre Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 I'm not a fan of the play features... But you managed to includes them in a beautiful design of the Nebulon B frigate! I've seen your cuusoo project yesterday or the day before as I was searching for a UCS version of my favorite capital ship to build after I'm done with my UCS SSD. Quote
BrickieB Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 It's simply stunning! I like the realism, and the fact that you don't see these a lot. I wonder if it'd work when built for real - and not fal apart. Quote
Mr Man Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 This is really great, I especialy love the cockpit and the fact the features are so well integrated to the ship. Quote
TWP Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 I really like it! I've supported it on cuusoo already a week or so ago. Like I mentioned on the cuusoo page I think the bacta tank better could be replaced with a cockpit, and the current one could function as escape pod :) Quote
Only Sinner Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 My favorite ship, right there! The Nebulon-B never really got much time on the big screen, and that's just too bad. This model seems to do justice to the mostly negected stepchild of the rebel fleet. Quote
Praiter Yed Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 This is a beautiful looking creation and the way you have integrated the 'play' features is just great. Your micro-Falcon is also superb! I love the last shot of Luke & Leia looking out of the window... that moment gets me every time Quote
naugem Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 Great MOC. It would be a great display piece. Quote
HJR-Holland Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 I absolutely love it! Do you have a deadline for Cuusoo? I'd buildmthis if a partlistband ldd file wold be available... Quote
mortesv Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 This is a stunning moc, and it has the quality of a fine official product. You have really chosen the details you render with model at this scale very nicely. The small discrepancies there are, are mostly due to the scale of the ship and the fact that is have minifig play features. In other words, at this scale you have done a bang up job :) One thing I would consider is lifting the bottom most engines a plate a two - this way to be more in line with the film model. I myself, is planning on building this ship in UCS scale, meaning it will probably be somewhat larger (and no, I wont make it 1,5m long!). I would like to know what your model's brick count is and I would gladly pay you a little fee for getting a copy of the LDD file for inspiration. Again, great model! Quote
L-DI-EGO Posted February 23, 2013 Author Posted February 23, 2013 Thanks everyone for all the comments. Is your MOC stable enough to be picked up? Does it have to be held a certain way? I’m not sure how fragile this is, but I have tried to be realistic. I used an internal Technic structure to ensure the ship doesn’t fall apart. But it probably would be unswooshable. I believe it is on Cuusoo? My only gripe: upload some larger renders and include the link to the Cuusoo page so we can support? The renders in my Brickshelf folder are as big as I could (my computer could take full days rendering bigger resolutions ). And yes, it’s on CUUSOO. I haven’t showed the url because I understand there’s a general distrust in the AFOL community over that site. I still think it could be a good way to ask TLG for new sets, but I know the average AFOL is tired of find people asking for supports. Anyone who is really interested can find the link inside the spoiler: http://lego.cuusoo.c...deas/view/35323 How many pieces does it have? I wish i would have the instructions.... Do you have a deadline for Cuusoo? I'd buildmthis if a partlistband ldd file wold be available... I would like to know what your model's brick count is and I would gladly pay you a little fee for getting a copy of the LDD file for inspiration. It has 1671 bricks. I don’t want to share the LDD (just to prevent plagiarism on cuusoo), but I really want to show how this is made, so I’m searching for the best way to make instructions. Sadly, the LDD building guide it’s incoherent, I am not very good with Ldraw, and Lic is still in alpha stage. I think it would look more "UCS" or like LEGO produced it if the left hand portion of the "stand" was gone and it somehow used the ship to support the left side. I think the model could be hold like you suggest, but I wanted to make this as stable as possible so you could put the minifigs in the surgery suite without seeing the model falling apart. Like I mentioned on the cuusoo page I think the bacta tank better could be replaced with a cockpit, and the current one could function as escape pod :) I remember that, and I answered you with this picture. Indeed, your idea is interesting because it would result in a more spacious cockpit. However I think the bacta tank work ok for the frigate’s medical purpose. Quote
pedro Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 A superb creation! The details are spot on and I love the fact you've included all that playability and those extra little vehicles - I'm a big fan of accurate 'system' built models. This really is the sort of quality TLC should be consistently hitting. +1 on Cuusoo! Quote
Phoib Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 Great model! Since I am playing around with the idea of a Home One, based on 7754 and your two ships: how long is the bricklength of the model? Quote
L-DI-EGO Posted March 9, 2013 Author Posted March 9, 2013 Thanks again for the comments. Regarding the model lenght, the digital MOC is around 78 studs long (I think the measures are 63 x 17 x 37 cm aprox.) Quote
Dr Ein Stein Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Thanks again for the comments. Regarding the model lenght, the digital MOC is around 78 studs long (I think the measures are 63 x 17 x 37 cm aprox.) Love this model and even more the invisible hand version. You should work for Lego as these mocs are perfect in size (parts) to make it a commercial succes. Concerning LDD : If you have some building instructions, there's no need to make them public by putting them for free on the web. You can ask a smal donation for the effort and time you have put in it. I suppose that would only be fair. And it's true that LDD instructions are not always that logical - to put it in a nice way - but I'd build the model first (in real bricks) , so I could give some support to those who are making a donation...Anyhow if you're just a little used to LDD there is always a way of getting around the "unlogical" problems you incounter once building. It would be nice if you would share the model with me. I would only use it for private use (no pictures or whatever on my moc pages site) Thanks Quote
Phoib Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 I'd pay $10 for the instructions, in the same way as the Venator in UCS instructions are distributed. Quote
