Posted February 26, 201312 yr Hey, I have a problem with the new L-motors. Yes, motorS 2 of them, the ones I got from 9398 crawler. I just wanted to make sure, is it just me, or to some of you also have this problem. So, the problem. I'm not sure how to describe it, but it's pretty much that sometimes, just out of nowhere, they start whine, or make that micro.motor sound, if you know what I mean. And then they don't work, but if I cut the power for a sec they start to work again. I first saw this problem in the crawler, the first day I tested it but didn't pay attention to it. But now I have two of them in a MOC and now they ''whine'' offen. So, that's my problem, please let me know, if you also have this problem, because if not, I have to to something with mine.
February 26, 201312 yr Author hey! Did you try changing the batteries? Yes :), I have so much knowledge and it has happendmore then once or twice, also with different batterie and batterie boxes and with or with out an ir reciever.
February 26, 201312 yr Im sure if you were to contact TLG they would send you new copies of the motors (then ship the old ones to me..i dont mind the whine ) tim
February 26, 201312 yr Author Could it be the fuse in the motor? Maybe, haven't opened the motors YET! :) Im sure if you were to contact TLG they would send you new copies of the motors (then ship the old ones to me..i dont mind the whine ) tim I'm not shure I know the meaning for TLG :).
February 26, 201312 yr The Lego Group. I think its not the first time i heard of L motors whine.... Do they work normally otherwise?
February 26, 201312 yr Author The Lego Group. I think its not the first time i heard of L motors whine.... Do they work normally otherwise? That's good it's not the fist time. But when there not whining they run fine and usually it happen under great power, like in the 9398, but I would not call a small car lightweight car heavy and motors under big force. And by the way I also contacted with the lego group, I got the short version :D, and I'm not sure if they send the spare parts to everyone, but if they to, then i'm going to get new motors :)))!
February 26, 201312 yr Mine did that. I had a bad battery box in my 9398. Used another box it fixed the issue.
February 27, 201312 yr Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I didn't test my L-motors before completing the build of 9398, so I thought this sound was normal and/or caused by me using 1,2v rechargable batteries. I now removed the motors from the build, and the other motor seems to be working ok, no weird sounds or anything, but the other one makes that high-pitched noise, and also the rotation speed of the motor is not really constant, but varies a bit. There is also a slight smell of burnt electronics coming from the motor, so I'm definately contacting TLG about this. Maybe there have been some problems with the production of these motors, because you still can't buy them separately, and they are "out of stock" on the Lego missing piece site? Who knows. Electronics are of course much more complex and more prone to error than simple plastic pieces, but receiving broken pieces out of the box really isn't up to Lego standards, and to me screams of faulty or rushed quality control.
March 1, 201311 yr Author Thanks for your advise. But now they work fine although I didn't do anything , but I'm afraid that they will ''whine'' again. And also, it turn out thet TLG doesn't replace your motors just like that they just sent me an email suggesting what to try to do with the motors, like checking the bb and so on!
March 1, 201311 yr Author Contact them again, it depends on the helper. They sent me a new v2 receiver. Thanks, I'l try!
