Palathadric Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 Once a mason, that person would not be recruitable. The idea is that town has a way to build up some trust on its side, and as a balance in a game with more recruitment than usual. That is a pretty neat idea.
Capt. Redblade Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 I think I'll be able to participate. 1) Isla Paradisa, Gotham, Yakuza, Ragnarok, Eurobricks, The Pearl 2) Nothing to say now. 3) I try to avoid it if I can.
Peanuts Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 I should have enough time to play, I guess, so I'll just sign up. 1) I played in the games listed in my profile, and also in Excalibur (1.0 and 2.0) and The Pearl. Guess I should update my profile. 2) If I play town, the recruiting team is completely overpowered. If I'm scum, it's the mason. Nah, I think it will work well. 3) I'll just say I'm against it, or at least not doing it, but I'm not entirely sure what it means.
LTPro Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 I'd love to sign up. 1) Umm... Not much, but I know I'll be good at this game. 2) Nothing at all. 3) I'm not sure what that is but I don't like the sound of it.
def Posted March 4, 2013 Author Posted March 4, 2013 I'd love to sign up. I'd love to have you, but this game is only for members who have mafia experience at Eurobricks. You are eligiable for mafia school, but unfortunately that has just finished sign ups.
LTPro Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 You are eligiable for mafia school, but unfortunately that has just finished sign ups. How do I sign up for mafia school?
def Posted March 5, 2013 Author Posted March 5, 2013 How do I sign up for mafia school? It's good to read through things a little on your own: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=36091
LTPro Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 It's good to read through things a little on your own: http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=36091 Thanks Def!
Pandora Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 I'd really like to play this, but I have some severe time constraints for the next 7-10 days, so if you can put up with that, I'd like to submit my application. 1) Your mafia experience Available in glorious technicolour on my profile, although you probably know most, if not all, of it. 2) If there is anything you would like changed about the rules before going in I've asked some questions, already. 3) Your opinion on pussyfooting In terms of being wary or noncommittal, it can be useful, especially in a game such as this, and so shouldn't be rejected out of hand as a strategy. We're allowed to be indecisive and discuss things, that's the nature of the game, and it's all good as long as some actual thought goes into the process.
Walter Kovacs Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 I feel the itch to play. 1) Your mafia experience. I've been rumored to have played before. Eurodina, Bloodbrick I, Forest I, Werewolf 2) If there is anything you would like changed about the rules before going in Nope, looks well thought out to me. 3) Your opinion on pussyfooting I personally am not into foot fetishes, but I know some people that are.
Walter Kovacs Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 Welcome back Walter! Thanks Fugazi. It's been a while.
Big Cam Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 Damn you def. I'm so busy this month. I've even been slacking on the moderating front. When is the game going to start? I don't want to say no. Shoot I'll sign up, I need to redeem myself, or die trying. I have experience. I actually like the changes you've proposed, for me it's all about being more careful with information. Pussyfooting? I don't lurk on purpose, sometimes it's time restraints, other times I have nothing to say. Although I think I broke my lurking streak in the last EB mafia where I yelled a lot.
def Posted March 5, 2013 Author Posted March 5, 2013 With the speed of sign ups, the game may not start for a little while. I'm not going to hold the mafia thread hostage until this game gets enough sign ups, and will see the number of players at the end of the week. But it needs 25. I would actually be quite happy to start on March 17. I'm doing some work for an art show on March 16, and would be happy to have to not squeeze my time too much for this beforehand. After that, I have a 6 week vacation. I can start earlier, but it all depends on you!

Where did you come from?!?!
Walter Kovacs Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 !!!!!! Hi Hinck. Glad to be back. Where did you come from?!?! I crawled out of my hole and didn't see my shadow, so I decided to stay out and play.
Hinckley Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 I crawled out of my hole and didn't see my shadow, so I decided to stay out and play. Yay! Take that, Winter!
Scouty Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 Uh, sure, why not 1) lots, including most of your games 2) No, not really. Just no confusing role names 3) it sounds terrible, what an ugly word.
Rick Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 Here are the major changes: -I won't be able to delineate the kills at all and the SK will have to be a night kill, allowing all sides to megablocks better. It makes the night kills a little less fun (or presentation will have to be total decoration), but it will free up teams to scheme better. -the town will not have a cop. It will be replaced by a pair of masons, who can recruit only town to their masonry. One of the two may recruit each night, and if both die, town is out of luck, much as if the cop were to die. This is a big power to town, and to balance that, scum will have no godfather. Instead, both teams will have a recruitment blocker that will replace a frame, giving a certain amount of doubt to failed inductions. But town will have the flexibility to trust their own team among the masons. These changes certainly address some issues with the original game. When a couple of nights have passed it becomes pretty clear who holds what kill, so anonymising the kill makes it easier for all sides to claim. The masons make the town more like the recruiting scum team and give them a better chance when claiming to the scum. The scum still hold a lot more information, so blindly claiming to be the recruiting or killing scum by a town block still only has a 50/50 chance of being credible. Because the team they're claiming too know if they're killers or recruiters, the claiming town block has to make an educated guess (based on tracking or watching results perhaps). At the same time, removing the cop and introducing the masons removes the town's ability to confirm someone as scum. It's impossible to judge balance without having the complete role list, but making the town more like the scum certainly sounds more balanced. The recruitment blockers don't sound very powerful because they have a pretty low success probability. You could consider recruitment protectors, but, depending on the rest of your setup, that might swing the balance to the scum teams again. Please sign up here if you would like to. Only people with mafia experience may apply. 1) I started in the same game as you and I played a couple of games since. 2) We'll see what more we can change in Untitled Mafia III. 3) It sounds gross. I like it when people are active, but the number of posts in a day has also gotten slightly out of hand in some games lately (especially with games with more than 20 people).
Palathadric Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 -Instead, both teams will have a recruitment blocker that will replace a frame, giving a certain amount of doubt to failed inductions. But town will have the flexibility to trust their own team among the masons. -that's a big power swing to the town, so the scum-recruitable players will be randomly distributed among the town, including power roles, preventing scum from simply targeting bored vanillas, but also giving them an ability to take out power roles. What does "giving a certain amount of doubt to failed inductions"? Does that mean that if a scum blocker blocks the mason, the mason will think still think that his conversion was successful, or... Also, from the other point it seems that only certain townies will be able to be converted by the scum. Will the players who are convertible be informed of that?
Pandora Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 What does "giving a certain amount of doubt to failed inductions"? Does that mean that if a scum blocker blocks the mason, the mason will think still think that his conversion was successful, or... I believe it's because: if town failed to successfully add someone to the Masons they couldn't be sure whether the reason for that would be because a) the induction was blocked by a recruitment blocker (by a scum on a town player) or b) the player they tried to recruit was scum. It means that failed inductions to the Masons may not necessarily be because the inductee was scum. Thus giving doubt.
def Posted March 5, 2013 Author Posted March 5, 2013 Scum-recruitable players should never know. As for town certainty of scum, say on night one they fail to recruit, they can be sure that person is: 1) scum 2) SK 3) possibly one of two recruit blocked players or 4) a possible miller. That is likely scum, not guarenteed scum. At the same time, the odds that they're scum goes up as they recruit, since the likelihood that scum block someone already a mason, or a blocker dies/gets lynched, making it a little more sure each night.
Piratedave84 Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 The more clarifications are made, the more I want to play to see the outcome!!! That being said, I have no objections in waiting a week or two before playing!
