March 27, 201311 yr Wow, that looks REALLY great, better than I expected. Maybe clones could exit with a cableway, or a similar thing like what lego does with helicopters. Or they could jump out on a trampoline :)
March 27, 201311 yr Dude, that thing is HUGE! You're doing an excellent job, and I'm quite impressed by the scale.
March 29, 201311 yr Very impressive. Looks great so far, in shape and detailing and that crane is pretty darn nice.
March 29, 201311 yr Author I really appreciate the kind words. Thank you. I have no idea how many bricks I have used so far. The wheels alone should have over 2800 pieces. I build them 10 times, so I know the piece count by heart. The carriage will probably have more, since it is substructure AND cover. The cabin weights a bit more than wheels and carriage, so total count could be at 12000 so far. But I am still missing lot of detail and the interior of the rear cabin. So I might end up at over 15000. I will put the beast on scales when it is done, to get a piece count based on average piece weight.
April 4, 201311 yr Author Hello, Here is the next Update. The Exterior is 80% done. Some details are still missing and the cannons on top also. The radar room needs some work and the rear cockpit too. The sickbay just has a bacta tank but nothing else, so there also is some work left to do. I am now working on the carriage. That is btw the reason, why the covers on the carriage are off in the pictures and the cabins are not mounted. They are just dropped onto the carriage without alignment - just to give an overall impression of the beast for the photos. I did some driving the other day and so far the modifications work out well. With some help from the guys in the technic section of this forum I got a solution for the power issues I had. Now it drives nicely and fast - too fast for my taste, dsince the steering is slow. There is one limitiation thou: You cannot drive on carpet. The tank needs the possibility for wheel slip, since it doesn't feature differentials. Steering needs some more work. Here is the overview: Details on the top. The cannon is missing and there's one red brick, that needs to go. Closer in on the top with one of the hatches open: details on the rear cabin and the neck: The rear cabin: The WiP of the interior of the rear cabin. - and my sons arm. :) I am looking for a building technique for the the ring around the top cannon right now. Suggestions are highly aprreciated. I am wrapping my thoughts around that for quite a while, but I can't figure out a good way to build it. Here is a pic, where you can see it: http://starforge.inf...uggernaut-6.jpg critic and comments welcome. cheers, deck Edited April 4, 201311 yr by deckard9
April 4, 201311 yr I really do like the detail and effort on getting it minifig scale! I minifig scale vehicles! I have come up with a possible idea and done it on LDD. If you could message me an email address I'd be more than happy to send it to you for you to have a play around with.
April 4, 201311 yr Amazing build, very well done! Can't wait to see the final pictures of it outfitted with clones and stuff.
April 5, 201311 yr Author Thanks for the comments! Yes its motorized!!! I drove it and its fun!!! It was the first time last weekend, that I did drive it around with all the load on it. My fear was, that the gears would just crack or it would crawl slow as hell, but in fact its fast. The XL motors and the planetary gears are so strong, that the weight doesn't seem to have any impact. There are only two issues: The weight is so big, that when you tackle an obstacle that is higher then one brick, it is easier for the wheels to bend the steering backwards then to work in the suspension. The other issue is, that the steering is slow. You can only speed up, when you have a free way. If you want to maneuvre through a door, you need to switch to crawl mode and drive it like an oil tanker... slowly... very slowly.... I have to rework the suspension some more. the 9 stud suspension arms are just too weak. I have to find a more rigid solution. I don't want to build a rock crawler, but some more rigidity would be nice.... Here is a little update: The shape of the canon on the head is done. The mechanic to rotate it and to shoot with power functions is still missing thou. Also some details on top of the spphere are missing. Edited April 5, 201311 yr by deckard9
April 5, 201311 yr Author I am still looking for ideas how to build the ring around the canon on the main cabin. Here is, how someone buildt it on his CTT: No clue, what technique was used to do that... Any ideas? Edited April 5, 201311 yr by deckard9
April 5, 201311 yr Author That could well be. But that's not very stable, is it? Might not be the right approach after all. When the tank is moving there is quite some vibration, so everything needs to be fitting tight and has to be stable. I am kind of stuck on this.... Edited April 5, 201311 yr by deckard9
April 5, 201311 yr I think I may have solved it, or at least come up with another way of achieving it... http://www.bricklink...Item.asp?P=5102 with http://www.bricklink...Item.asp?P=2555 on the underside of the wedge plates. That is all I can come up with at the moment. *edit* dammit, mechamike beat me to it lol... Edited April 5, 201311 yr by Fuppylodders
April 5, 201311 yr Yeah, the flex tubing or pneumatic tubing with the clips seems to be the best way to do that to me, too. If you can anchor it in multiple places, though, it should be fairly stable. Both flex tubing and pneumatic tubing are rubbery enough that they can flex with the vibrations (To reduce the movement of the ring, I mean, not make the ring flop all over.) and the clips can grab on to them well, and I think you should be able to anchor it in at least four places.
April 5, 201311 yr I'm very impressed by this build! Especially the wheels since I would have been very stuck with ideas.
April 6, 201311 yr This is simply Bad-@$$! Great work! It's Perfect! I love it! Edited April 6, 201311 yr by Dapper-D2
April 6, 201311 yr Author Hey there. Yesterday I finished the canon mechanism. You can control it with 2 channels now. One to rotate, the other one to lift and shoot. When you point the canon all the way down it fires. I buildt it that way for two reasons: 1. I am running out of R/C Channels 2. that way my little boy is not able to shoot someone in the eye... I did a little video with the tank driving and shooting. Not a lot of action, but its hard to film with the phone and control several channels at once. Don't shoot me for my driving skills... One wheel is off, due to the rebuild of the undercarriage and the cabins are just dropped on to it. The wiring was also not all connected yet. Click on the picture for the video. April 6, 201311 yr  This looks like how it should be!! Can't really fault you for it at all Is the interior complete now too? Edited April 6, 201311 yr by Fuppylodders
April 6, 201311 yr Author Not yet.. I want to get the exterior done and the carriage ready, befor I complete the interior. Still waiting for a bricklink order thou, so maybe I'll complete it the other way around.
April 6, 201311 yr Impressive, most impressive!! The sheer scale of this thing is amazing, but you've also added some really nice details and it looks very accurate. Are you going to add some Technic LEDs to it? You might need to use clusters of 4 for the main lights to do it justice as they're pretty feeble individually! Keep up the great work, I'm looking forward to seeing this finished.
