Posted March 7, 201312 yr Hello everybody, I am bringing you a review of all series 3 & 4 planet sets. This is one of the first reviews of these on the web, and it is also my first review on the web :) So, I got these yesterday, they were €12,99 each, buy two get one free (so buy four get two free), and get a free series 6 minifig each €10 you spend - sounds like a pretty good deal to me, all six + 5 minifigs for €52 ! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Box: I will just show one of box, because the box of each is nearly the same to an other one, and I will compare it with a series 2 box. So it is much the same as the other series' box. Unboxing: For those who did not know, you can unbox a planet set without needing to damage the box, you just cut the tape with a knife or with a pair of scissors, then you are able to pull the planet out, and get the instruction manual behind it out the box. contents: So, all opened up, you come to the conclusion that there is not much Billund Air in the planets :) The instruction manuals are just regular, with a exclusive "yoda chronicles" code in each, and all this wave's minifigs. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So, starting of with the first one, 75006 Jedi Starfighter & Kamino, including 61 pieces. contents & random instructions page: normally when I open the bags I just build it right away, but for this once, I resisted the urge for you! It has some great pieces, including some brackets, I really love the with the republic sign printed 1x1 round tiles! The set: Looks great right? Planet: So, for you I photoshopped the little planet from the box on it, looks great right? You can see the comparison, but I think it could have used a bit more purple, though the reason they did not was, that it then would look like a Friends set! :) Mini Starfighter: It looks great to me, it uses the 6 of the brackets, has SNOT wings, and has the printed 1x1 round tile! It looks really agile, the only letdown is that the wings are not sloped in two ways, but that would have been hard and make it look ugly, so no complaints! bonus comparison shot with old mini one: The new one is devinitely better, thought it could have used some more printed tiles like the old one, but maybe just one printed piece each planet set is allowed. Minifig: Bieb bieb, it's R4-P17 (of course all die-hard SW-fans knew that name by heart!) A astromech in a planet set? do I like that - in this case: yes, a Obi-Wan and Jango are in the summer wave, and a Lama Su/Taun We would require a new mold, something that probalbly is not possible in a planet set. He has ashamingly no back printing, like all of his kind. It suprises me that the fighter is called "Delta-7 Light Interceptor", though the box just says Jedi Starfighter, I like the official name more. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Secondly, we have 75007 Republic Assault Ship & Coruscant, including 75 pieces. Contents + random instruction page: Pieces assortment is not all that great, you do get a inverted bracket, two 2x1 cheese slopes, and a lightsaber, but those can be found in many sets. Set itself I think it looks quite good as a whole. Nice ship, minifig and planet. Planet: Another planet with special effect picture in the right upper corner. The planet looks nice, I have always wanted a Coruscant planet since the first ones debuted a year ago. However, if you look at the reference pic, the plastic looks to grey, it could have used some more dark red. I start to wonder why Lego doesn't photoshop the reference pic itself, so it looks more accurate? :p You can see that there is really a grey mark in the egdes of the two planet halfs, that's a letdown. The craft: Looks pretty decent right? I can actually not say much about it... Minifig: Here is the minifig in its whole glory, it is going to be the main reasen much people will buy multiples of this set, though I still think the BP is a better army builder. The minifig is the same as the one in the BP. alternate views: second image compared with the CW version. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The last one of series 3 already, the 75008 Tie Bomber & Asteroid Field, containing 60 pieces. contents + random instruction page: The small bag has really nice pieces, including 2 plain bley round tiles (which are my first ones), a astromech unit's dome in plain bley, some other piece, and a technic binoclar, as I call it, which is probalbly my favorite technic piece. The big bag sadly enough only contains black, black and black pieces. The set: It's really black, just black. :( Planet Something: Really Lego? an asteroid field? I am just okay with that! (you had not seen that one coming, did you?) I won't talk about the reference pic. Like many others I preffered just one asteroid (so you were right after all) The Tie: I think it is nicely designed, though it looks too blocky, I have just changed my mind, It is sufficiently designed. What I really like is the little bombing hatch. it is ashame that the wings are too movable: Comparison pic: A lot better than the old one, right? It does use the same wing technique. breakdown: so, in case you wondered, this is the way it is builded. minifig: No, not another new Tie Pilot design!!! :( I hope it is just the bomber design. And it is not going to be the last Tie Pilot design, because the ones that exist already have got no leg print. anyway: comparison and back: the minifig uses one of the tanner printed on black heads (not the yellower variant) The backprint is just a bit too plain to me, but it ís accurate. (for the ones who are recently into Lego SW, the right minifig is an old type Tie Pilot) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So, now we are ready for series 4! First, 75009 Snowspeeder & Hoth, containing 69 pieces. Contents + random instructions page: Lightsaber, two types of binoculars, printed slope: the latter makes the piece assortiment good enough. Set: For a change we have a happy color mix of white and orange! Yay! it makes me feel happy! The planet: No, stupid you, there is NOT a part of dog's shit on the planet, it is actually printed. I just don't know about this planet the top part looks to white, the middle part looks to blue, it was better if the blue would be equially divided over the whole bauble. And on top of that there is even a strange brown mark on it! This was one of those planets, that could be nice when it was handled like Bespin planet set, unlike Yavin 4. Speeder: I actually don't really like this speeder. There are angles to get a nice picture with it, but if you look at the top there is a big gab between wings and cockpit. Also the jumpers seem out of place. I like the unrealeased snowspeeder better. minifig: All I can say is: "Wow". It is probalbly the same as the luke from the Battle of Hoth (except the face). the leg print is awesome. the torso print is awesome. the back print is awesome. It even has some printed folded clothes! comparison pic: For the record: I replaced the yellow face with the most right fig with a fleshie for the yellow-haters. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I am already really looking forward to the Blockade Runner, But first the B-wing. Huw over at Brickset already reviewed this one, and he thought it was really disappointing. Nevertheless, 75010 B-wing Starfighter & Endor, containing 83 pieces. Contents + random instructions page: Really good piece assortiment! e.g. you get some one-scoped binoculars, an inverted tile, pearl silver tooth, bar 3L, printed cockpit.... :0 The set, I really enjoyed building this one: First impression is good to me. the planet: I don't know what it looks like, either a very big cloud, a fast flowing river or something elektrical. Wait a moment... Endor? We already have had an Endor in series 2! What is the case, in case some of you wondered: This is the planet Endor, the other one was The Forest Moon of Endor (where the battles took place)! But this one does not look really realistic, the reference pic shows some green, some terrain - the plastic has nothing, just clouds and water. The B-wing: I think it is great! The designers tried to make it symmetrical, it kinda worked for me. See its symetricallyness better on more images at Flickr. The colors are nice, the design is great, the cockpit print adds much detailing to it. Only letdown is the bottom of the wing, it is not very symmetrical, because it needs to be placed on a stand, but it easily can be MODded: solution 1 solution 2 Just pick the one-sided binocular extra piece, add a If you'd like just one canon, you need two 1x2 bley plates, lightsaber ectra piece on top of it, and place it on the a 1x1x1 bracket and a 1x1 clip, just place it like the image remaining clip. now you have a dual cannon. In the above. movie the bottom cannon is also bigger than the other two. Minifig: The minifig is just awesome, great prints everywhere it could be printed. Only the helmet seems off, and completely movie in-accurate. compared with older B-wing Pilot: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- At last, the last one! It is getting later and later... 75011 Tantive IV & Alderaan, containing the most pieces of every planet set yet, 102. Contents + random instruction page: The pieces look like very many small ones! and two white "hats" from Indiana Jones - those are great! The set: The back of the Tantive is as heavy, that the stand almost fell backwards. The planet: This planet looks earthy! And look at the reference pic: I see similarities! At last a good planet. It is hard to distinguish next to Kamino - remember, Kamino is just water, so the bluest one! The Rebel Blockade Runner - Tantive IV I have to admit - it looks really good. I have always wanted a mini Correlian Corvette, and now I have one! Oh, did you also wonder how the 4+3+4 engines where achieved? it is actually really simple, look at its breakdown: The building techniques for this one where intresting, but I still wonder why they used technic bricks instead of cilindrical bricks. The Kazim hat is actually really fun - maybe even for a non-TCW Ki-Adi Komundi? The minifig: It is just a standard Rebel Trooper. The face does make me happy, but the inclusion of him instead of Bail Organa makes be really sad :( anyway, it is the same one as in 2007's BP, with the head of 2012's Advent Calendar Rebel Trooper Back 2007's trooper --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sorry, forgot to take pictures of spare parts. some other time I guess. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Conclusion: I think this year's planet sets are better than previous year's ones. The planets are more detailed (but sometimes with wrong details), and what also is noteworthy, that however you place the two halfs, there is always a logic form, so no diamettrically coasts. The minifigs are at somewhat the same level. The set designs are also slightly better, but that could be because of all the new pieces. should you buy them or not? if you're a collector or want to have all planets - yes, including the extra endor if you like a minifig: just go for the set, especially if you don't already have a planet yet. if you're an army builder: no, just order the minifigs at Bricklink, than you don't have to built all the minis if you like a ship/planet: just go for the set, it is not all that expensive, and the minifig can always be of good use if you are neither of the ones above: post a comment? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Instead of the usual ratings, I will list the best ones in my opinion. these are the sets again: Best Planet: 1. Alderaan: most accurate, looks nice. 2. Kamino: Accurate too, misses a bit purple, but overall great. 3. Coruscant: the planet is hard to produce and make it look good, but they did it quite good. Best parts assortiment: 1. Jedi Starfighter: the brackets and the 1x1 round printed tile are just so usefull 2. B-wing: the pieces are really handy for mini builts. 3. Tantive IV: it has most pieces, and there are of cource very useful small ones in the set. Best Mini model: 1. B-wing: working function (wings), looks quite symmetrical, nice cockpit print. 2. Tantive IV: it has to be in the rankings, of course because the movie version is one of the prettiest ships of SW 3. Jedi Starfighter: smooth SNOT design, nice printed tile, nice color scheme. Best Minifigure: 1. B-wing Pilot: great designs on legs, torso and back. Helmet could have been better. 2. Snowie Pilot: great designs on legs, torso and back. Though it is the 10th orange rebel pilot design. 3. Tie Pilot: good, fresh new design, especially on the helmet. BEST PLANET SET THIS YEAR: 75010 B-wing Starfighter & Endor best minifig, best design, second parts assortiment, planet's print is nice, but not accurate. BADDEST PLANET SET THIS YEAR: 75008 Tie Bomber & Asteroid Field serious? an asteroid field, Bomber is too Blocky, another newly designed Tie fighter Pilot, parts are abover average. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So, What do you think? post your comment!
March 7, 201312 yr Wow! Very thorough review, thanks! Tantive and Jedi interceptor are my favs, but they all look pretty good. What confuses me is the numerous printed elements - not a complaint by any stretch, but their rationalization process still escapes me.
March 7, 201312 yr Nice review, thanks have series 3 waiting for series 4. Looking forward to the B-Wing.
March 7, 201312 yr Great review! After seeing this I might just get Alderaan! Looks great from your pictures!
March 7, 201312 yr Thorough indeed! Thanks. I just got the 75010 myself, but mainly for the new B-Wing pilot minifig to go with my big minifig-scale B-Wing. Building the little B-Wing, though, turned out to be more fun that I expected. Edited March 7, 201312 yr by krispy
March 7, 201312 yr Author Thanks for the review. Where did you get 'em (with the buy 2 get 1 free bonus)? I got them in the Netherlands, at a certain shop called ToyChamp. I think the offer is not lasting a long time more, actually.

March 7, 201312 yr Hmm...just a question here, is the B-Wing Pilot's face the same as one of the Republic Troopers' faces from 75001?
March 7, 201312 yr Author Hmm...just a question here, is the B-Wing Pilot's face the same as one of the Republic Troopers' faces from 75001? Yes, it is, it is a shame, I would have prefered a printed headphone or something like that. edit: I completely read you're post wrong. Though I do not own 75001, I've seen it in reviews, and the heads are different. The face of the B-wing is the same face as in the Hoth Rebel Troopers Battle pack. Edited March 7, 201312 yr by TWP
March 8, 201312 yr Nice review! I enjoyed getting to see the details of these sets. You should join the Reviewers Academy.

March 11, 201312 yr Hi, good review, mate! I've confirmed the 75009 Snowspeeder and Hoth is my favorite of the series four. Not sure about series three, though.
March 11, 201312 yr For me, (I already have the Kamino planet), the Coruscant planet is a maybe because of the new clone, but my favourite by far is the B-Wing because of the pilot and the design.
