Posted March 10, 201312 yr Well, like many of you, I'm of the opinion that LEGO should have made the components of this set connected, like the Helm's Deep + Uruk Hai army sets. But I bought this set with this fully in mind, and managed to build it the way I wanted on my very first build. Anyone can do this, all you need is 3 hinge bricks, 2 corner plates, a few small technic bricks and several other basic bricks. This mod improves the set tenfold, like the 48x48 gray baseplate improves the Mines of Moria set tenfold... 79010mod_01 by SheepEater, on Flickr 79010mod_02 by SheepEater, on Flickr 79010mod_03 by SheepEater, on Flickr 79010mod_04 by SheepEater, on Flickr 79010mod_05 by SheepEater, on Flickr 79010mod_06 by SheepEater, on Flickr 79010mod_07 by SheepEater, on Flickr 79010mod_08 by SheepEater, on Flickr 79010mod_09 by SheepEater, on Flickr 79010mod_10 by SheepEater, on Flickr 79010mod_11 by SheepEater, on Flickr 79010mod_12 by SheepEater, on Flickr 79010mod_13 by SheepEater, on Flickr 79010mod_14 by SheepEater, on Flickr 79010mod_15 by SheepEater, on Flickr 79010mod_16 by SheepEater, on Flickr These were the bricks I had to leave out to make room for my hinge bricks and technic bricks. 79010mod_17 by SheepEater, on Flickr http://www.flickr.co...964105876/show/ Edited April 6, 201311 yr by SheepEater
March 10, 201312 yr Author Thanks! I just noticed a small error here.. The dark gray inverted 1x1 slope with skull on it should be 1 stud further (where the goblin is standing). I corrected it on my set but didn't feel like taking another photo. EDIT: Here is the corrected setup. 79010mod_13 by SheepEater, on Flickr Edited April 6, 201311 yr by SheepEater
March 11, 201312 yr The fact that this set didn't have hinges bothered me. This is a great mod my friend! Keep it up!
March 11, 201312 yr Author Thanks for your kind words. My goal with this mod was to make it as simple as possible, with basic bricks, so that everybody (that was disappointed with the set) can reproduce it themselves. Edited March 11, 201312 yr by SheepEater
April 6, 201311 yr Author Update! 1) Reinforced the left most hinge brick so it won't come out no matter what. You can see that the long inverted slope was moved forward by 1 stud to achieve that. I had to add some filler bricks inside. 2) Changed the connections to 2 pins & holes instead of one. So the sections won't rotate when you lift it up. 79010mod_18 by SheepEater, on Flickr 79010mod_19 by SheepEater, on Flickr 79010mod_20 by SheepEater, on Flickr Here, I added a total of four 1x1 black bricks to fill up the space. One of which is on top of the moved 1x2x3 inverted slope. 79010mod_21 by SheepEater, on Flickr Edited April 6, 201311 yr by SheepEater
July 20, 20168 yr Author And now 3 years later I have finally made my mod in LDD! So now, everybody can easily reproduce what I did. Lxf files: Disjointed modules Connected modules Required parts. Nothing but easy to get, common parts. Keep in mind that I reproduced exactly what I used from my real life collection. The three 1x2 technic bricks with cross hole can all be replaced by one single 2x3 brick. Huge thanks to ADHO15 for supplying the original set's LXF file. Edited July 20, 20168 yr by SheepEater
