BrixKix Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 There's so many different buildings that I would love to see, I think it'd be great if they went to making two a year. Quote
jpd96zj Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 I wouldn't mind if was every 8 months or so... I grow very impatient waiting for the next one. Quote
LEGO Guy Bri Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 (edited) I grow very impatient waiting for the next one. My wallet doesn't mind waiting. I would like to see some modern styled modulars though Edited May 6, 2013 by LEGO Guy Bri Quote
melbs Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 An inverse corner would be great I too don't mind 2 modulars per year, the more choices the better. Though for sure I won't be able to get all since its expensive, at least there's more choices and picking to get what I want more, than the current pace which makes me just get the one that will be released since I have no choice Quote
TheLegoDr Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 I am more than okay with just one release a year. I'm already two down because of all the other great sets they come out with. I think they only release one per year because it can't handle more than one per year. Star Wars has rabid fans, so they can accommodate two UCS sets a year. I don't know how rabid the modular fans are to eat up multiples a year. My bank account thanks me that there aren't more. Quote
glendo Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 i dont think we will get a dedicated house, i think that is up to us to create ourselves.... i'd love to see a school or library next Quote
sarah-k Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 I'd rather not have a Police station, but a school, a library or a restaurant would be fun! Quote
Andy D Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 (edited) I wonder how well 2 per year would sell??? Maybe not so well, one per year is enough for me. I think a museum or library or combo museum/library could be interesting. A pizza or deli with apartments could be interesting. Even a first floor bank with upper floors office building could be interesting. One thing I am sure of is whatever it is, it will amaze me! And I will buy it! The one LEGO purchase I am positive of is the modulars. Just MHO, YMMV Andy D Edited May 7, 2013 by Andy D Quote
eurotrash Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Maybe they could do two a year by reissuing the older, no longer available ones together with new Modulars. That way TLG could benefit from the sustained demand for the older models (as they're not making anything at the moment on the Corner Cafe, Market Square, Green Grocer). Me, I'd welcome an opportunity to get any of those three at a realistic price.... Quote
AndyC Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Maybe they could do two a year by reissuing the older, no longer available ones together with new Modulars. Pretty sure Jamie Berard was once asked about the possibility of re-releasing the earlier modulars. The basic problem with that is that many of the parts involved are out of production and the molds retired (the panels for the windows and the 5 high doors for example). So any re-release would end up having to be a somewhat revised design. Experience with trying to do that in the Lego Legends line proved to be rather unsuccessful - people who wanted them weren't really satisfied with a near copy, if they were they'd probably be just as likely to have bricklinked a version already. At the end of the day, it's probably much easier for TLG to produce and market an entirely new modular building, which will sell to the people who've already got all of them as well as those interested in starting a collection, than it is to try and revive one of the older ones. You're probably better off hoping TLG bring out a new model with some of the rarer part/colour combinations (much as Pet Shop did with the dark red slopes) so that bricklink prices of the rarer parts come down somewhat. I think bottom line it's just profit that dictates retro-ing for lego, in sneakers they keep retro-ing air Jordans since it sells better than newly released other nike/air jordan models. Having lego tried it before and failed, hard to see them doing it again given the limited market for modulars. Though I too wish they retro the cc and gg, haha Quote
dhc6twinotter Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 I've just recently started buying the modular buildings, and I'm already in love. My vote for new buildings include the following: -Police Station -Hospital or Medical Clinic -Fuel station with mechanic shop -Bakery -Post Office -Hardware Store -Library -Radio Station or TV Station -Dentist -School And, a modular style airport complete with some old aircraft (Sikorsky S-43 or similar). It may not fit the modular approach, but that sure would be fantastic! Quote
tomdobs55 Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 I think a service station will be coming at some point. It would definitely be a different approach but seeing as we've had a town hall and cinema a service station seems likely. This opinion is based solely on Lego modularizing the town plan set. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Personally I'd love to see a hospital of some kind. The downside is it might be hard to pull off with the standard 32 wide scale. Otherwise a restaurant would be welcome. Quote
Roger_Smith Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 I wouldn't mind two modulars per year at all. Granted, right now I'm still catching up on the old ones, but I'm pretty sure that I'll have all the ones that are currently available by the end of this year, and waiting a whole year for each new one seems like a looong time. I might have to resort to bricklinking Cafe Cprnmer or something to even out the wait, Quote
jth781 Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 I would most like a post office next. The least would be a police station. Quote
paul_delahaye Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 A Post Office or a Bank would be my preference for the next set as well, the Fire Brigade was not one of my past favourites, so although I'd buy a Police Station, I'm not excited by it. Quote
Sextant Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 I suppose I'm less interested in the specific shop type of any given modular as I am in interesting builds, and things we haven't seen before. That's the disappointment of the Cinema, to me, as a missed opportunity--a two-level building at the same height of the usual three stories was good, but I was excited for an interior that included balcony or box seating, remaining open inside for a large movie screen. Two iconic building types that I'd like to see are a classical courthouse (peaked triangular roof, large-scale columns, in gray or white, set back from the street further than the other modular buildings, with those building-wide steps, perhaps incorporating an elevated statuary), and a classic two-story motel, with the outdoor stairs and covered walkways, parking spaces, front office and ice and snack machines. Since those motels are free-standing buildings, designers would have to do some clever maneuvering to fit in with the plate-connecting pin style that runs through the theme (a dumpter with the connector pin hidden in the back of it, for example), but that's what would make it fun, and an interesting change to the skyline. They did a bit of the former architecture with the Town Hall, of course, with the entryway looking like a mini version of what I expect the courthouse to look like in full scale, which dampens, but does not kill, my enthusiasm for a courthouse. I've bought them all, though, to date, and will continue to do so unless they really tank in quality. I vote for one a year, less because of finances (the modulars and holiday sets are the only ones I buy anymore) than because of shelf space to display these beauties. Quote
LegoSjaak Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 (edited) Maybe a toyshop would be a splendid idea.. or a Lego-store.. Personally i think it will going to be a Bookstore.. with lots of books, and nice shelves....A year ago, i did not have any of the modulars... Late November 2012 i put my hands on a cheap Fire Brigade and after that, i wanted them all.. ....In december, there were some really nice offers, so i managed to buy the other ones rather cheap. First i did not like the Palace Cinema... but later i was convinced that i simply had to buy it.....I'm a collecter, so you can;t afford to miss out on one... Last week, i searched for the oldest three modulars... and this evening i will go and buy Cafe Corner, Green Grocer and Market Place from someone, second hand.. It is soooo addicting.... sschmotz Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 I would like to see Lego go with more vintage feel of the next set. Some of the past sets like the FB and TH have the old "feel" with the date on them (1932, 1891), and the GG and CC easy fit with them. The Cinema looks like something from the late 80's and out of place with the limo and spotlights which is the main reason I haven't purchased it yet. Quote
scottwb2010 Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 So if wooootles theory on the run of modulars' continues, then we should see a retail/residential combo in 2014. I personally would like to see a Post office with accommodation above for the Post Master and their family, but then some may say that Post Office would fall under government building which going by the same theory, would not be until 2015. So another retail/residential combo that I'd like to see could be along the lines of the Petshop 10218, but on this occasion having 2 ground floor shops and those being a butcher and a baker shop. BraselC5048 Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 I noticed the trend of corner-corner-straight, and private-private-public, a while ago. I pretty darned sure that there's going to be a post office and a police station in those. As for what the police station will look like, I'm probably going to be disappointed, because I already have a strong feeling of what it should look like. About fire station height, or maybe closer to pet shop height, in light gray with dark gray accents, 3 floors, perhaps a little grim looking, depending on your taste. Columns out front, likely against the front wall, going up two or more floors, heavy cornice, with "POLICE" in a brick-built sign centered at the top, light gray with dark gray lettering. Grooves or dark gray accents for a facade of large stone blocks. Basically, design wise like this, in light gray, with dark gray accents, and a third floor: As for the post office, I hope they break their trend, since it would make a great corner building. Late 19th century ornate style, a little gothic. Likely in white. Basically this (although it would somehow have to be shortened): Boy am I going to be disappointed when they don't look just like that. Quote
dhc6twinotter Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 I'm fine with one modular building per year, but perhaps there could be one or two additional small sets to go with the modular buildings? These smaller sets could include 1930-1950 era vehicles, buses, trollies, food stands, etc. The smaller sets would be much cheaper and help fill out a nice cityscape.. Quote
AncientDayz Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 The Cinema looks like something from the late 80's and out of place with the limo and spotlights which is the main reason I haven't purchased it yet. I think the limo in general looks "off," and I can see an 80's vibe on the inside first floor; however, I don't get an 80's vibe on the outside. Assuming it was modeled after the Chinese Theatre in LA, it has a 1920s' theatre has its foundation. Most of the theatres around me built in the 80s were big, fairly plain boxes with a standard marquee. I wasn't a huge fan I'd it by the pictures, but once I put it together and saw it in person, I loved it. It may surprise you, especially when it is put together with the other modulars. Quote
kermit Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 I do notice a trend in the recent modular buildings. They seem to be taking a page from the town plan center set. In that set we had a town hall and a cinema both of which we got in the last two modulars. The third building from that set was a service station , but i dont see how that can quite fit into a modular building. Quote
